We had a very enjoyable dinner at Porcini and may go back. They describe themselves as "Fine Dining" but also use the word casual." Hmmm. I'd say more casual. Very Trattoria like--the staff knew many patrons and visa versa. It is crowded, with not a lot of decor other than a few Italianish prints on he wall. But it does have a nice neighborhood vibe. Prices are up there but food quality was excellent for the most part. Their legendary garlic bread was the best I've ever had!! The roasted artichoke appetizer was good but hardly that special (it would be super easy to do that at home!). My enormous pork chop on a bed of spinach and polenta was tops: cooked just right, juicy, flavorful and abundant (the remainder will be dinner for both wife and myself tonight!). The spinach was lovely though their polenta was underseasoned and needed something "a little more" flavorwise--to help it keep up with the chop. My wife's shrimp pasta featured extremely flavorful pasta (in a wine/butter sauce) though the lovely shrimp were sadly overcooked and a bit chewy! (Why is it so hard for restaurants to cook shrimp right???) Dessert choices were limited but wife's strawberries in balsamic wa both pretty and delish. My flaky pastry assemblage of shattery pastry layers, creamy filling and whipped cream was very satisfying but wanted a few berries as garnish and contrast. I asked for tea and was told, "We don't have tea!" That was a disappointment. Service was quite attentive, casual (almost too casual for my taste) but we were well taken care of. I've only had a waiter sit down at our table one other time to explain specials and take our order. Hmm. Reall?? The place was fun, the food good and I'm impressed that it has lasted so many decades. It was an enjoyable night out in a city full of excellent Italian options.

10/10. Went for my friends birthday with 9 others and everything was incredible. The prosciutto and mozz, artichokes, caesar salad, AND THE MUSHROOM PASTA. One of the best Italian dining experiences in Philly. Shout out to David, the owner, for a great dinner night out!

It was like eating at your mom's house. A small, cozy restaurant where the owner Dave meets and greets everyone! The food was excellent.

The food was authentic and delicious. the servers were so organized and on top of things it was actually amazing to watch. I’m glad we ordered several different items off the menu because each one was just as delicious as the next. can’t wait to visit again.

We went here because of long history and reputation of the restaurant despite hearing warnings. The warnings are true and the food is high school cafeteria level. The only reason to come here is to drink your own wine that you brought.
