The Drapers Arms
Very much a pub we are as welcoming to one person sitting with a beer and a paper as to a group having a special meal. In an informal and relaxing atmosphere we nonetheless take our food, drink and service seriously. Well chosen and carefully tended ales (Harveys Sussex and two on rotation) and wines (18 available by the glass) add to a range of authentic lagers, spirits and soft drinks.
Our food is all freshly prepared and our menu changes every day and across the seasons. With a focus on being enjoyable, honest and seasonal we are also affordable - we were very pleased in our first year to receive a 'Bib Gourmand' by Michelin for 'Good food at affordable prices'.
Our upstairs dining room can accommodate weddings, christenings and parties and is among the finest private hire options in London.

What Insiders Are Saying
The Drapers Arms is an isolated pub in Islington with a bar downstairs, a dining room upstairs, and a garden you should take advantage of.
Food was not great over cooked roast potatoes. Pork belly just fat and Yorkshire puddings very dry they just crumbled away. Expected much more
Very, very busy but still offered to move me to a downstairs table after seeing I had walking disability. Great service without being pushy to move guests off tables despite being totally busy and staff run off their fee - but still polite. Was a little too noisy for me but would go back for food and service and would recommend trying at least once.
A very good Sunday lunch with very good service. Extremely difficult to talk to each other because of the noise! Still, everyone was having a good time.
The food quality was generally very good but there were some strange choices on the menu. It's great that there were vegan options but why did the butternut squash and coconut curry had no protein in it. Given also that it was a Sunday lunch, should there not have been a vegetarian Sunday roast item on the menu? Plus while it was good you had a vegan option for main course, why was there no vegan dessert? Just a few inconsistencies that could do with ironing out.
Excellent neighbourhood pub with great food and really good service. Outstanding wine list.
Excellent. Good delicious. Great service.
Excellent food served by efficient friendly and very helpful staff.
We haven’t been to the Drapers for a really long time. Was very pleased. Sharing lamb was delicious. A fine return to quality.
Really lovely, food is always marvellous. The table time restrictions are quite awful though - we could barekynget through a two course meal, good luck if you want a three course meal!
Fantastic meal in great surrounding. Staff very friendly and helped make our night special.
Unfortunately the Draper’s seems to have gone down hill. This was my second visit and the food portions are smaller and less well prepared. Our Sunday roast was mediocre with a huge price tag. The service was awful and when we asked for gravy (a roast staple, I feel) it was grumpily given. When I asked for loo roll as there was none in the loo it took 15 mins and two requests to get it. Our pudding was then rushed as they wanted the table back after they took 40 mins to take our empty plates. Wouldn’t recommend.
Sunday lunch. Food very good but we arrived at 1:10, main course served at 2:50. No time for dessert. Bit of a shame for a rare family get together and birthday celebration
Nick Gibson and his team do a fantastic job of creating a friendly environment, great food and exceptional service. This is no accident and I can see the meticulous effort that goes into every detail. The wine list is exceptional and the menu is always meticulously put together. The cuisine is primarily British with exceptional meats, fowl and vegetables. I highly recommend the Draper’s Arms!
The best roast dinner other than mum's!! Absolutely superb will definitely be returning and recommending
Good food and beer but could be noisy with some loud groups and wooden floors
Sometimes painfully noisy towards the rear of the establishment due to hard surfaces and domed roof (my partner and I often couldn't hear each other), food wasn't hot when delivered, one member of the bar staff was particularly unwelcoming. However, the food is actually pretty good. A typical Islington gastro-pub really. Though personally I prefer the atmosphere, beer, and food of the Albion or the Crown which are both nearby.
Lovely food , good service - highly recommended for a delicious local meal
Very friendly staff. Good food
food was very nice. It's also a lovely atmosphere/traditional pub. However, the service was TERRIBLE. As a party of 5, each person from our table had to get up at least twice to get someone to come serve us. We had to ask for menus after we were seated, get up to be served for drinks, chase someone to come take our food order, after the food came, no one came back with the extra drinks we ordered/condiments requested for the food. Lastly, the bill was incorrect and included things we did not order, so we had to get that fixed. Although service was not meant to be included, they added it on anyway! So we asked for that to be removed too. It's a shame, because the service was probably the worst I've had in London in years. I'd be apprehensive to return to this pub again based on that experience.
Excellent bread and wine. However, the Sunday roast - a rib of beef for three to share with all the trimmings was not good at all. The trimmings were not fresh - everything tasted as though it had been prepared a few days ago and microwaved. The entire meal was presented on a serving platter, with an enormous fore rib of beef for us to carve ourselves - with nothing but a steak knife and a dish. When we asked if the kitchen could carve it for us we were told "they were too busy" and were given a bigger but much blunter knife.
Visited for dinner on Sunday a couple of weeks ago and again on Saturday night last weekend. Welcoming, good atmosphere ( bar can be a little noisy), great choice on menu and wine list and service excellent. Pretty good value too. Highly recommended
Fantastic lunch with 3 loud kids. The service was brilliant, nothing was too much effort.
Very nice looking local pub. High expectations for Sunday lunch, I came from Pimlico! Ordered roast lamb joint for 3, it was luke warm and had to ask for gravy and mint sauce, which took about 7 minutes to arrive. Ordered dessert, they put cutlery and fresh paper napkins down, 5 mins later another staff member picks them up! Poor coffee.
We love the drapers, our go-to with friends. Highly recommend there meat share plates, excellent value!
I am afraid that we had to wait nearly 2 hours for our main meals (a table of 4).
The food was quite good; apart from the side salad which was a few pieces of measly lettuce at around £4.
We have been here a few times; I like the atmosphere. But the service and quality of food has been disappointing recently. I hope it returns.
Outstanding as always, never had a less than excellent experience. The sharing roasts on a Sunday are a must.
Fine atmosphere also if a little bit noisy in the upstair room. Food was good, well prepaired and presented.
Food was fine, but the service was unbelievably slow with little regard for keeping us informed. They did eventually explain away the delay and offer us a free bottle of wine. Seems management just wasn't on the case that evening.
Excellent moment with friends. Food, service and Ambiance were Perfect.
I clearly recommend this place.
Booking is mandatory.
We had Sunday lunch - one of their sharing roasts (lamb). We shared between four rather than the recommended 2-3 and was fine for us as we’d all eaten earlier. Plenty for three with big appetites though! Great standard of food and good, friendly service. Good beer selection and an extensive wine list with a several available by the glass. A great local but worth visiting from further afield too, for sure!
Went for Sunday lunch with a friend visiting from Dublin. The traditional roasts, including the essential roast potatoes, were spot on. Good desserts too, which we could barely manage.
Great gastro pub to spend an unhurried late afternoon in. Would have appreciated gluten free bread as the sourdough on offer smelt irresistible.
We love their Sunday lunches and go there whenever we want a "special" treat!
Excellent food, slightly more fancy than a standard pub.
Was a little disappointed the pie didn’t come with mash, but the pie itself was great and the service impeccable.
Food is consistently excellent and way above pub fare. We save our dinners out until we are in the area!
Very slow service - an hour before anything arrived yet pub not packed - food ok but delay spoilt experience
My absolute go to for a jolly lunch with friends. Superb and very generous food, charming staff and brilliant value. If you are a wine fan, this is your best bet in town.
Very good pub grub in a quiet, shady, beer garden - with incredibly friendly, helpful, service, too. Recommended.
Great as always
It’s so noisy in the restaurant - better in the
