Always wonderful food and service. Just a great place all around
Good food. Filet was perfectly cooked (m/r) with a flavorful peppercorn sauce. The short ribs over pasta was tender and tasty. The overall flavor was good but not wow’d. Seems like they played it safe. They could get better staff. Found our server to be impatient and bothered when inquiring about menu items. This is the common theme amongst other reviewers. I’d come back nevertheless but with tempered expectations.
Beautifully decorated and extremely professional staff. Food was excellent and the location is perfect.
Excellent meal and value. Will definitely go back again.
We love the food at Avenue and most of the servers are attentive and professional. The oceanfront is a lovely place to sit and the outdoor couches for bar service is nice when you have good server. This time, unfortunately it took 50 minutes to get a drink outside. I passed up our table early after i was promised i wouldn’t be sacrificing the oceanfront view so we could sit and relax for a few minutes. The hostess gave me a one hour window and i was back requesting the table in 45 when we hadn’t even gotten drinks yet. Horrible outdoor service! I requested the table the hostess had “on hold” Only to find she gave it away and wanted me to wait another 30 minutes. I knew there was no chance for another drink so we ended up compromising on another table to avoid the poor service and headache. We have been to Avenue many times and this was by far the worst. Once seated, our server was wonderful, polite and professional. We had a lovely dinner. Some of the guests had the lobster dinner and prefix menus and everything was superb. Thankful for a lovely experience for dinner. If the “face” of the restaurant had been the first hour of interaction, I would have left. Just being honest.
The restaurant was open availability when the reservation was made and this could have all been avoided completely. There are plenty of excellent choices in long branch to have issues like this. In the future, go for a table only and don’t take the chance in a drink outside. The least amount of contact with the hostess station and outdoor bar service the better- it changes your perspective.
Went for a late brunch and ended switching to a the petite seafood platter for two recommended by our waitress. The fish was wonderful. It was perfect for us along with a couple of cucumber vodka martini's which hit the spot. Seating on the outside deck gave a view of the surrounding beach and in range of various musicians. It was a great way to start the afternoon. Plan to go back for dinner.
Food was good and server was very nice. Unfortunately the wait was beyond acceptable...40 minutes for apps and 60 for entrees. They said the kitchen was busy and backed up, but being that half the restaurant was empty and it was 10:30pm, we found that hard to accept. I’d hate to be there at 7 or 8 if that were the case.
Arrived 20 minutes early and had to wait to be seated
No room at the bar as everyone was eating dinner there
Went next door to get a drink
Food was OK for the price. Very disappointed in the chef as they overlooked my Filet twice!
I won’t be recommending this place to anyone
We were offered a table by the window, when we were taken there it was an interior table. We then asked for the alternate that the restaurant offered when we arrived, a table outside. We explained that we needed a table in the shade as one of our party has a medical condition that doesn't allow her to be in the sun. They brought us to a table that was partly in the shade and was fully in the sun 20 minutes later when we were in the middle of our meal. They were not gracious, accomodating or polite.
We had dinner early so we’re able to order from the Pre Fixe menu which has a very good selection for a reasonable price. Our party of 4 tried the escargot and the octopus salad, the octopus salad was very good, and while the escargot were very fresh tasting we were surprised at the lack of garlic. For entree’s we had 2 orders of the Steak Frites, the Mussels with Frites and the Bronzino. The steaks and fries were great, the mussels again while very fresh lacked seasoning, the Bronzino was tiny (about half the size that you usually get) and again strangely lacked seasoning. We had the profiteroles, creme brûlée and sorbet for dessert all were very good. The servers were attentive, although need a bit of training as our waiter had a hard time with recommendations.
Delightful in all aspects. And everything we wanted happened to be on the Prix-fixed menu. From the Spanish octopus salad to the profiteroles and chocolate pot de creme, with steak frites and branzino mains. The place was, as always, elegant and the service was top notch (Stevan).
We have been here several times. One of the best in NJ. Alexis was a great waiter and the food was incredible as usual.
Went to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary.
We ordered a salad with grilled shrimp and a french onion soup for appetizers.
The salad was very good, the soup lacked flavor and was mostly bread.
We ordered the aged steak (medium rare as recommended by the chef, per our waiter) with grilled vegetables for two, which took almost an hour to get.
The waiter told us it would be 40 minutes to cook, not sure why it takes 40 minutes to cook a steak.
The restaurant was not even that busy.
The steak finally arrived and looked great before it was sliced to reveal that was well done.
We sent it back and left. We didn't want to wait another hour.
For our troubles we were given a couple of glasses of wine on the house. :(
Excellent brunch menu. Food is delicious. Drinks are very good. Service is excellent. Great all around experience!
Way overpriced food was ok nothing special
Went there for the first time, food, staff, service was outstanding. We will be definitely going back.
Our family group (8 people) had eaten at Avenue last summer and had a fabulous experience, so we were looking forward to going back this summer. However, this time it was not so great. The appetizers were good but then they only delivered meals to half our group. The other half of our group waited and waited. The waitress did not check in with us and did not notice the problem, which was odd since the restaurant was NOT full. Finally we got the attention of the waitress and then the manager. The manager explained that somehow there was a mistake in the computer system and only half the order got put in and they would do their best to get our food out as soon as possible. He was defensive, not gracious or friendly while making excuses. Finally agreed to take some money off the bill. The other 4 meals finally came but two of them were not very good (Bœuf Burguignon dry and somewhat stringy, the Paella Royale had some items undercooked or overcooked) so those were comped. Our family will not be going back to this restaurant again.
We overall enjoyed our time. The happy hour was great from the drink selection the food and service. The waitress was personal but professional. Dinner service was good but a bit disappointing. The server although efficient and professional never introduced himself. We ordered the Prix Fixe menu. Hers excelled. Moules Frites. Mine the Beef Bourgogne was quite disappointing. although the meet was tender and the pasta was cooked well there was an unexplainable amount of grease at the bottom of the bowl which caused me to stop eating. The server never asked us how our meals were.
The appetizers of escargot and mac & cheese were bland but acceptable. The desserts were exceptional. She had cream puffs and I had crème brûlée.
Overall, we would recommend the restaurant. However there may be some inconsistencies along the way.
Our wait staff was excellent. We were a party of four. Half way through two of our main courses we found a hair on two of our plates .
Our dinner reservations were for 6:30 due to the traffic we had Avenue valets park our car. The attendant had us pay for the car when we dropped it off and charged us $10 extra.
We have been to Avenue quite a few times however based on this last experience it maybe our last.
We dine alfresco , with an ocean view. Beautiful weather
Carmine our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Beautiful restaurant. Outdoor seating was perfect.
Disgusting. The place was filthy. Sent drinks back twice and most tables were sending drinks back. Appetizer was gross. Waited an hour and 20 for the entree. Took one bite, asked for the check and left. Never again
During this weekends heatwave, we could have used a lot more AC.
Service is excellent but, I must say, a bit too austere.
Enjoyed our conversation with the sommelier.
Waiter remembered us.
Two of us had the Steak Frites, and both of us thought that our steaks were cooked to perfection and the tasty steaks we’ve eaten in ages. Another in our party had the Filet au Poivre and also thought it was perfectly cooked and a very tasty steak and sauce. The 4th person in our group got the Boeuf Bourguignon and said it was tasty but greasy and he only ate about half of it for that reason. We also ordered a corn risotto for the table to split. It was a $23 entree, but was portioned more as a side in a large sided bowl. It was tasty, but not worth the money. We also started with the Grilled Portuguese Octopus... very delicious!! Overall a very enjoyable choice of food!
Avenue never s disappoints, whether a night out as a couple or large groups with friends and kids along. Steaks were cooked just right and seafood was too.
We’ll definitely be back again!!
Great ambience outdoors, spectacular evening for dining at Jersey shore, possibly the best location on the shore!
I think dining area should be closed for trespassing in swim suits
Consistent. Good food, good service, great ambiance.
Great table outside overlooking the beach. Services was excellent. Highly rec the seafood tower
The paella was more like a greasy and tasteless fried rice. Not worth the price.
Receptionists were very inexperienced. There was a line of probably 10 people half of which didn't have a reservation but those poor people still stayed on line because they didn't know better. Someone should have announced the line is for reservations only. The restaurant was fully booked however, I see 40% of the tables empty. The kitchen was probably understaffed because it took 20 min to get more chips for my guacamole.
I hope these comments go directly to the management owner. They need better, experienced staff.
We've been to Avenue so many times, I can't even remember. We normally don't go in the summer, due to the crowds, and we will definitely NOT be going back anytime soon. Pier Village was a nightmare to deal with, no parking anywhere, and it took forever to move a few car lengths. As to the food at Avenue, I always get the beef bourguignon, and it was awful this time. There was a pool of grease on the bottom of my bowl that's never been there before. The noodles were grossly overcooked, and the portion was the smallest I've ever seen it. Hopefully when summer's over, the food quality will increase, because if it doesn't, we'll never go back. I'd recommend going in the fall, winter or spring, but not in the summer. The quality of the food prep suffers, and for what it cost, it wasn't worth it at all.
I went to Avenue with my family, and the atmosphere was amazing. The view of the ocean is very clear and relaxing. I’ve been there at least four times, and every single time, the food is above reproach. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was very busy. Also, we were seated outside by a main doorway, and my brother-in-law kept getting hit by the door. He told the waitress, and she said she would talk to the manager. The manager came out, apologized in person, and resolved the issue right away. They also put our first round of drinks on them because of the slow service and because of the door. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough, but if the service is a little bit slow don’t let that deter you. I promise it’s worth it!
Food average at best. Not worth the price. Lobster entree served cold on ice with warm.drawn butter. Weird. Was expecting it to be hot like most places when you order a 1 lb lobster with drawn butter. Filet was good but pretty average. Cool place with nice view but a bit loud and weird mixture of shirt and tie and beachwear and sweats. Beet and goat cheese app had minimal goat cheese and a LOT of beet. Wanted to like this place much more than we did.
Great service, beautiful venue, Sommelier was spot on, waiter was great, food was ok, needed seasoning and Med Rare steak for two was bloody, needed a few more mins.
Beautiful restaurant overlooking the ocean. Our go-to lunch when going to the beach in Long Branch. Salade nicoise and apple tarte tatin were both superb. And such a gorgeous view. After lunch, walk down the steps to the beach. The water’s fine.
