                                                The service was very slow and we would order food and it would not come because the waitress did not put it in. The lunch on a weekday was 2.5 hours and that was when we left without receiving some of our food.

                                                We come here for a lot of special occasions and have gotten to know the staff. It was a busy day since it was Mother’s Day but everything was great. Highly recommend: black cod (gindara), the Mother’s Day special was awesome, so much food so it is shareable (if you want it to be!). Also highly recommend the suntory beer as it is not easy to find! It’s our favorite beer. My son raved about the pork cutlet. The food here never disappoints! The staff is awesome. We come back often.

                                                Sushi is always exceptional, rolls are imaginative and presentation very creative. Staff is friendly and attentive and there is a beautiful view from the patio and sushi bar. Nice location in the plaza for the bookstore, ice cream and other diversions before and after our meal. Definitely our go-to in Del Mar!

                                                I celebrated my 61st birthday at Shimbashi Izakaya, my favorite Japanese restaurant in Del Mar. The food was excellent as usual. I had mixed seaweed salad, potato salad, salted grilled salmon, sautéed mixed mushrooms, and shrimp-crab fried rice. Soooo delicious, oishii! The waitresses were super nice. They gave me a FREE dark chocolate cake and mochi ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream...I did not even ask for them to do that. Loved it! Domo arigato gozaimasu. Thank you very much!
