The hostess seated us promptly, even though we were 30 minutes ahead of our reservation time. That pleased us and we thought that was very nice. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. He was helpful in explaining how the tea service worked. The food, ambience, value, and noise level were good. However, we have enjoyed afternoon tea in many locations, including locations outside the United States. If the Palm Court had been our only afternoon tea experience, we would have been very impressed and would have given top ratings in all categories. But we have had at least five afternoon tea experiences that were quite a bit superior to the one at Palm Court. For that reason, we could not give the top rating to Palm Court in those categories. Food: the scones were the least good of the foods served. They were doughy relative most scones I have had. The bread in the cucumber sandwich was a bit dry. Otherwise, I found the foods to be tasty but not especially so. Ambience: the Palm Court is an attractive setting. However, it looks more elegant in photos than it appears in person. I no complaints about the ambience. I was just a little disappointed. Value: the Palm Court is priced about where other locations are priced. But our experience has been a bit better at some of those other locations. Noise: it was surprisingly noisy in Palm Court. The water fountain, while attractive, was very noisy. Unfortunately for us, we were seated next to the fountain. I'm sure our experience of noise would have been better had we been farther from the fountain.

The Drake afternoon tea provides a nice backdrop for pictures. The service is warm and friendly but lacks the ceremonial niceties that make afternoon tea special rather than routine. The food was similarly perfunctory. I worry the Drake team has lost sight of their role in keeping up standards against the endless onslaught of sloppy attire and bad manners. I hope they can recapture the magic.

Tea is served without milk or cream unless requested. Waiter spoke poor English. Food is average, sandwiches are dry, pre-made, because they couldn’t customize anything or accommodate basic food restrictions. They substituted with kids sandwiches but charged adult prices! Ambience is the only thing good.

We all loved the Palm court. They were so nice and the food was very good. They were also very accommodating with our daughter who’s only 3 months old.

We had a delightful experience at the Palm. We took tea, and very impressed by the service and the overall ambience. The little sandwiches were delicious, as were the desserts. It was great value for what we got, which was 2 different teas, 4 glasses of white, and a tower and a half of goodies. The best part was not being rushed by anyone and having a fun time visiting and hanging out. We even had two other friends join as towards the end of our stay, and the lovely waitstaff let one of our friends take up her glass of wine to her room. The Palm is definitely an experience and a must do if one’s staying at the Drake. Can’t wait to be back.
