About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Romantic
Celebrating its 118th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

We were very happy with the staff and their service. We arrived late and still had a pleasurable meal before our show

We loved everything about this special restaurant. Had dinner after the opera. From the service to the ambiance to the food, everything was perfect. The beef and the salmon were delicious, as were the spectacular desserts. Can’t wait to come back!

Coming back to Barretta after 8 years, I must say the food was not good. I’m shocked. It was not up to its name and I was sad. I loved this place.

Lovely, relaxed pre-theater dinner. Prices very reasonable. Broad food selection - amazing desserts. Old-fashioned fancy so a nice break from bistros and sushi bars. Some of the dishes are true classics.

We had a phenomenal dinner at this wonderful restaurant on restaurant row in New York City. We introduced a friend of ours to this restaurant, it was her first time there and she was absolutely blown away with how beautiful the restaurant looked, both upstairs and downstairs. We loved the countless choices of food on their fixed price menu. The beet salad and pasta appetizers were extremely delicious. The short ribs, salmon and fillet were cooked to perfection. And we absolutely loved the hazelnut tart and pistachio desserts. The service as always was top notch. Everyone was super attentive & extremely friendly. Thanks to everyone for an "awesome" evening !!!

I’ve eaten here several times; from the mid 70s until now. And I’m pleased to say the atmosphere, food and service remain excellent. It certainly is a throwback to earlier years; but that is to the credit of the owner and manager. If you want to return to dining out of the late 70s, I highly recommend Barbetta.
