Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available. Frequent seasonal changes to our menu allow us to incorporate local produce, hiqh quality proteins and other items that are not available year round.

      Authentic Austrian gasthaus, with extensive menu of traditional plates...I loved the tender and light pork schnitzel, creamy/pickled cucumber, salted roll and Euro butter, and fresh kolsch from the tap. HD to finish with a delightful sachertorte! My waiter Alma took good care of me throughout, all staff were attentive and friendly!

      Very delicious food. We did the $24 three course weekend lunch menu and it was delicious. Very nice vibe, great place for a date or celebration. We will definitely come back!

      Our first visit to this excellent restaurant. Delightful ambience, outstanding food, great wine list! The service was fantastic—Anthony is a real gem! His knowledge of the menu was extraordinary and his recommendations were outstanding. His timing was perfect—he was always right there at the right time! Loved the Meingang and the struedel and chocolate torte were delicious. The sauerbraten was out of this world! So long as we can sit in Anthony’s section we’ll be back!

      An excellent experience again this was our second trip and it did not disappoint. The food is fantastic. I had the sour brighten and my daughter had the schnitzel fantastic! Don’t forget to have dessert! The strudel is to die for both the Topfenstrudel and the appelstrudel! Definitely worth the trip

      As ALWAYS, the Gasthaus hospitality and experience was everything we have come to anxiously expect in EVERY possible way and then some! Wonderfull 5-star meals, professional yet personable well-kept gasthaus staff, lots of happy and smiling patrons and a VERY clean and cozy nostalgic atmosphere that just simply makes you not want to leave and instead stay there forever!!!!       Everything we ordered for our party of 6 was fantastic. Especially the beet salad, goulash with spatzel, sausages, and pork schnitzel. Have not had a meal that authentically German since our last trip to Munich!!!

      I come here for nearly every special occasion I celebrate, this year was no different. Everything was perfect. My partner and I declined a birthday dessert due to being too full from our apps and entrees, but after temptation we decided we did want the strudel. It was like magic and moments later our server came out with the strudel. Will definitely be back!

      We always enjoy dinner here. Tonight we celebrated a birthday. The beef consume soup with crepes is always delicious. The desserts we had were very good tonight as well. We had apple strudel as the birthday dessert and chocolate cake with an apricot glaze.
