What Insiders Are Saying
A special-occasion restaurant on the Brooklyn waterfront.
We got engaged there and went back to celebrate ... and have gone over the years .... and again... 28 years later... it didn’t disappoint ...
It was brilliant! The view is amazing !!!!!!!! The prices are ok , you get a perfect service and a great food so it’s worth it!
An “our place” restaurant - classy, friendly, lovely
Excellent as usual!!! Looking forward to next time!
Amazing atmosphere, service and food! Great views too!
Bello il posto ma troppo troppo affollato, tavoli troppo ammassati e costo alto.
Servizio ottimo , cibo primo e secondi ottimi dolci nella norma .
My wife and I have dined at the River Cafe twice, once before, and once after sunset. This of course determines the nature of the beautiful and spectacular view of the Lower Manhattan skyline, across the East River. Your constant companion, of course, the historic Brooklyn Bridge. This only adds to the warm and classic ambiance provided by this one of a kind restaurant. Include expertly prepared and presented delicious food, provided with old style elegance and aplomb, and attentive care, and a Wine Spectator renowned wine list, and you will revel in a memorable dining experience.
I have been there multiple times and have always had an amazing time, but this time was different! Food was price fixed with minimum of 3 servings. Portions were so small and not many choices. Bill was $500 for 2 people and we left hungry! Never again!
Beautiful view ... The food was delicious but very overpriced
Also their obsession of keeping the suit on little crazy 😜
Fantastic staff and good. View is phenomenal. Treated like royalty
A must for anyone wishing to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. The view of
Manhattan can't be beat, the service top-notch and the food delicious! I have been coming to this
restaurant for years and will continue.
Wonderful food and service.
Chef's Tasting Menu was best we've ever had (all three of us agreed). I have followed closely the menus of chefs like Thomas Keller, Massimo Bottura, Paul Bocuse as well as many others and this meal was absolutely up with the best. The proteins were cooked to perfect texture and consistency. The garnish and starches equally to perfection and taste. The blending of textures and taste was delightful as well. A very emotional culinary experience.
Maitre d' (Josh) was very attentive as was our waiter (Terry). Staff was attentive and not intrusive. We are from Carmel California and it has been a tradition to return to the River Cafe´ for many years now. Thanks again for a memorable evening,
Good attentive service.
One of the best, if not the best, dining experiences I've had! The restaurant is beautiful and the food is amazing! The service is exceptional. Great way to celebrate my wife and my second wedding anniversary. She loved it!
Great food, impeccable service
We were passing through NY and were looking for a place to grab a bite. We found the River Cafe during our search and decided to give it a try. We really enjoyed our dinner and the meal was well priced for it’s stunning location and quality service. I highly recommend to stop by if you’re in the area and looking for a good dinner 🍽 we’ll definitely make it a point to come again.
Most beautiful location in NYC; everything was perfect--flowers, service, food, and the view. Expensive but worth it, especially for a birthday, anniversary, etc.
I had a bad experience from the waiter Justin. I was super upset from that person whether is the from the service or the food. The reason for me to choose this restaurant because I wanted to celebrate my birthday, but it was screwed up. Never want to come back and I will tell my friends and family do not come
A memorable experience, outstanding in every way. It was hard to leave
Everything was absolutely wonderful, looking forward to coming back
Celebrate your first million!
Wonderful breakfast ! Great service !
Amazing place with fantastic view. Personally speaking, it’s definitely one of the best romantic restaurant in New York. Not only the view it has, but also the small private park that leads into the restaurant. Very hard to imagine there is a place like this in the concrete jungle.
The food there is ok, good but not fantastic. Wine selection is amazing though, it’s some of best one you can get, and not necessarily too expensive, for 20 bucks one glass or 75 half bottle, you can get some pretty good selection.
Service is impeccable, with everyone being extremely helpful and polite.
Great location and surroundings, very helpful and attentive staff, wonderful food. Everything was simply perfect. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and of course River Café also was observant of this special occasion. We would love to visit again and can only give our best recommendation.
I would definitely come back again in my next visit. Food exquisite. Best views of Manhattan. Excellent ambience. Congratulations
After my reservation at OT I got a call from a very unfriendly lady who told me that I had to wear a jacket and then hung up.
She didn't give me the opportunity to ask a few questions or even to respond to her statement.
The following recall did not change the tone.
The location of the restaurant is great, but only the tables at the window are really good. If you don't bring your own jacket, there is no possibility to get a table at the window. Here the guest is clearly divided into two classes, which is already an announcement for a restaurant of this price class.
The food was absolutely fine but not outstanding in taste.
Unfortunately the restaurant is also not able to act flexible. There is either a three-course or a six-course menu. However, only one variant can be chosen for the table.
We have decided for the three-course variant.
Greetings from the kitchen, very good.
Starter, very good.
Main course, steak 16OZ (450g). The meat was of good quality, but was not delivered as recommended by the service and also ordered, Medium Rear, but Medium.
Dessert, very well and very beautifully arranged.
The quantities of the individual courses were not well coordinated with each other.
I think the restaurant should focus less on itself and more on the guest. An offer to vary the amount of meat would surely accommodate the guests and certainly avoid throwing away the food.
In my opinion the restaurant is clearly overvalued and MUCH too expensive.
Caution with the reservation, the tables cannot be canceled apparently not free of charge at short notice.
Enjoyed first class service. Tables were a little bit cramped. But we guess it’s NYC style. All restaurants are that way here in the city. A little bit more room in between wouldn’t hurt.
Outside garden and waterfall is well kept and perfect for picture taking. The view is one of the best. Interestingly there is complimentary valet parking which is very convenient in NYC. Had the opportunity of meeting your pianist at the bar and exchanged a few words. He is part of River Cafe. Thank you.
Went for my birthday with my daughter and had the 3 course dinner. Every single item from bread to apps to salad etc was fantastic. I don’t think I ate one bad thing there. The service was professional and courteous. I will definitely come back because when the food is that good, money is no object.
Just amazing from start to finish. What a great memory of New York!
Absolutely perfect brunch to celebrate our anniversary! The service was incredible and the food was out of this world.
We felt the overall experience to be a bit of a ‘package deal’, which is not what is expected of a Michelin starred restaurant. The decor is dated and tired, the whole place needs an overhaul. Tables are packed too closely together so that the conversations all around were intrusive. The couple next to us might as well have been at the same table as us...and the people passing our table bumped into us and we had to hold onto our drinks in case of losing them. Food was served quickly, efficiently and lacking in any personal attention. We were told it was a set 3 course meal of a starter, main and dessert. I didn’t want dessert, but had no choice. The bill was indecently inflated, the view...is what you pay for. The ~Hudson river~ frankly can be seen for free, so paying those prices should be a memorable experience, and sadly the food was not. It was good, but not worthy of extortion.
Amazing service! Staff went above & beyond for my boyfriend & I for our anniversary. Food quality was delicious & perfectly cooked. Would recommend to anyone!
We come here on almost every New York City theatre trip. Great food. Wonderful service and cute surroundings. The staff goes out of their way to make you enjoy your experience.
Very impressed with everything about River Cafe. A truly memorable experience
Exceeded all expectations.
The Tasting Menu and wine pairings were very good. The staff was helpful, caring and efficient. Beautiful view.
Overall was very good, however the steak that was ordered was not cooked to the correct temperature. Sometimes the services was lacking for a Michelin star, we often had to wait for our water on the table to be filled. That being said the Captain of the table provided good service and took the time to explain the menu well. We had a good experience at the River Cafe.
