Del Ray Cafe
Fantastic food - everything we ordered was outstanding, as was the service. I have eaten there many times and never had a meal that fell short!
The atmosphere is unique-this restaurant is in a residential neighborhood. The restaurant is in a former house which added to the lovely setting. The host greeted us warmly and we were promptly seated. I had the bouillabaisse and it was delicious. The beignets are to die for— truly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! Another member of our party had a raspberry soufflé for dessert and it was yummy. I will definitely be returning to this Alexandria gem.
We really enjoy this restaurant, so of course, my husband picked this one for his birthday dinner. The lobster was amazing!
As ever, the food was flawless. Laurent is the consummate host, and makes a point of checking in on us whenever we come in. Service is attentive, and we left absolutely satisfied.
Many wonderful attributes to Del Ray Cafe: food is reliably good; ambiance is light; French wines carefully curated and excellent value; service is good; management local and feels very personal with the family's influence in the overall operations and making guests welcome
I would highly recommend this place for brunch/breakfast (haven’t made it for dinner). Just down a corner from all the shops and right in the heart of Del Ray. All the servers and hostesses are friendly and the chefs serve up some of the best looking and tasting food. I’m only disappointed that I couldn’t give more stars.
So glad the Sole and Soufflé are now regulars on the menu!!
My wife and I visited Alexandria for 2 days. We spotted DelRay and instantly wanted to go based off of their organic menu. The food was fresh, presentation was phenomenal, service quick, and the plates we ordered were delicious. The ambiance had a homey feeling and the staff was so polite. We also appreciated the fact that they were dog friendly. We brought our two yorkies and one of the servers offered us (at no cost) organic home made treats that are made by the chef. We ended up going back the second morning to take a relative there because we were so impressed. We will be heading back to Alexandria at the end of the month and definitely plan on heading back for the Brioche French toast and the lobster eggs benedict. Bón appetite.
Awesome from start to finish.
Always a pleasure to dine at Del Ray Cafe. Once out-of towners try it, it's the only place they want to dine when they come to visit!
Ate upstairs at my request.
Always excellent. Consistently good.
Delicious Sunday brunch, with a mix of standards and unique offerings. Our food came quickly but we did not feel rushed. We were in the upstairs dining room which was not too noisy and had a lot of natural light from the many windows. A great place to take guests because it feels special.
Perfect location to entertain friends from out of town. The staff is great and welcoming and the food is fantastic.
The food is consistently great; I love the casual atmosphere. Sometimes a little noisy but excellent food and service override that.
What can I say? Everything here is wonderful. Gracious welcome and service. Vichyssoise, magnifique. My friend's veggie quiche, sublime. My tuna salad, superb. Every time I visit, it's outstanding. Why dine anywhere else?
As always the food was delicious. It continues to be a favorite of mine
Pancakes aren’t great. Everything else is.
We went for Sunday dinner and while we enjoyed the delicious food and friendly service, were surprised by how busy and loud it was. The decor is pleasing to look at but we thought perhaps all the hard surfaces caused the sound to bounce around from other tables having lively conversations. We are a quieter bunch and had to lean in over our plates to hear one another over the other noise.
I’ve been to Del Ray Cafe many times and LOVE it! This was the worst service I have had here. Just so slow, and during a lunch service that didn’t seem very crowded to begin with. The food was good, but not great like it’s always been. I was a little disappointed!
Del Ray Cafe delivers a creative menu, well-prepared and attentively served. Our party of four enjoyed the comforts of dining on the screened porch on a warm summer evening. Our waiter, Nathan, is obviously an experienced hand who took care of us well. We will return.
Good but not fabulous food, and prices aren't outrageous but aren't fully justified
We chose Del Ray Cafe for our anniversary celebration. The food was excellent with friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Will go back again!
Love this local spot
My wife and I have eaten at Del Ray Cafe every month or so since it opened. This past Friday the meal was the best it has ever been. I enjoyed the sirloin steak and I have never had one any better even at a fine steak house; it was melt in the mouth delicious. My wife had s special of the evening: local rockfish. She said it was prepared perfectly and, like me, felt it was delicious and fingerling potatoes made a perfect accompaniment.
it was great and a good time was had by all. will do it again
The food was fabulous, and presented at a fair price point. The front room was a bit loud, but otherwise bright and cheery.
Our waiter was earnest, young, and a little stiff - to the point of entertaining. He delivered well, though, and acknowledged when he needed a drink order repeated so he’d get it right.
The restaurant was understaffed resulting in extreme delays, cold food, and a generally poor dining experience.
Slower service than usual. Could be because owner was not on site.
I have recommended Del Ray Cafe to many friends. It is always exquisite and the service is outstanding. The food is natural, authentic and always out of this world. The waiters and owner go out of their way to be accommodating , helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
We always enjoy our evenings at the Del Ray Cafe! Food quality and preparation is exceptional and uses seasonally available fresh ingredients, which we like. A casual ambiance and knowledgeable staff make it a perfect dinner. Kudos.
Super! The food was wonderful, as always. Our waiter turned out to be the owner’s son, Marcel! We found him to be an enthusiastic and engaging young man! What a pleasure! Thank you!
The food and service were excellent. The management has a policy where they won't seat the party with for the reservation unless everyone is there. One of our people (and our group included 4 pregnant women) was stuck in traffic and was very late. They kindly offered to "hold a table" for us, which was generous, given that we were stuck well beyond our time, due to the late guest, but also, refused to seat our large party with, again, 4 pregnant women until everyone had arrived, despite our reassurances that we would sit, and order drinks and bites until she could get out of the traffic snarl. It was sort of poor form, if you ask me. Especially since they clearly had several empty tables.
That said, the food was good, the service was great, and the place is adorable.
The food and service was amazing. Our server, Abdel, was nothing but hospitable and accommodating.
Laurent and team continue to crank out tasty food with a personal touch. This is not a stuffy French place but a welcoming atmosphere where you’ll feel like you stopped in at your friend’s house for dinner (but the food is better!).
Quaint restaurant in a quiet neighborhood. We had a delicious breakfast around a small round table upstairs in a breezy room. Quite enjoyable.
I hadn't been to the "cafe" in years but remembered it had great food... so now that I've moved back to the area, thought I'd give it a try.... going to book again next weekend and picking up dinner there tonight!! The only place I've ever been able to find PERFECT fois gra on the menu.... WONDERFUL!! And the entire menu is super!
I have eaten here a number of times in the past few years, and I have to admit that I will probably wait a long time before I come back. The food has lost its luster and the service is no longer ready for prime time. The bouillabaisse was just a pot of mussels and potatoes with 1 shrimp. The salad that was supposed to be undressed came dressed. The water was not refilled until dinner was over. Small things? Maybe, but they add up. Bread was fresh-baked and tasty, and filet mignon was good. Mussels were ok and chicken was a bit dry. This restaurant has done better, and it's the third time. I will let it rest a bit before returning.
It was very loud. Prices online and on the menu and on the bill varied somewhat. But people seemed to like their meals.
