A 7 year olds birthday lunch after we toured the Tower of London
My family and I had had a dismal visit to The Tower of London. The weather was vile and the staff we met were rude and unwelcoming. We arrived at the restaurant wet, cold and fed up. We were invited in, were advised we could warm up and order a drink at the bar while waiting for our 1:30om table which we were early for. The Bar man was funny, kind and entertaining. The staff, fast, helpful and friendly and the food delicious, unexpetidly so! We were all very pleased.
We stopped here while touring the Tower of London and were very glad we did. It offered a nearby spot for lunch, delicious food choices and incredible views of Tower Bridge! Service and selection were great and we were back touring the TOL right after lunch!
Had previously reviewed the menu hoping to visit for our sons birthday. Good initial greet however very disappointed with the Monday menu - should have had a ham and chicken pie for 15.95 but instead was offered a beef ciabatta sandwich served with crisps ! Did not think this meal replacement was worth 15.95 - too much chutney was on the sandwich hiding the apparent flavour of horse radish. Kids meal and partners meal was fine.
Initial service ok but no check back received in which I could have highlighted the issue
This is the fourth time I've been in the last two months with different visitors each time. A great location with excellent food. I will be back.
Wanted a scenic spot for lunch while touring London with a relative. Had a window table with a great view of the Thames and the bridge.
The dining area is a bright space with glass walls and decorated in a simple, modern style. Located in front of one end of the Tower of London and convenient to both piers.
Service was attentive, professional and friendly. I had Toad in the Hole while my companion had a burger. Both were flavorful, nicely presented and in large portions.
In addition to the dining room, there is a quick service section with a more limited menu. Looks like it would be a good place for a quick bite, coffee, etc.
I booked for lunch as I wanted decent food when visiting The Tower of London. I wasn't disappointed; the food and service in he restaurant were both very good. If you get a window seat, there is an excellent view of Tower Bridge. One tip if visiting the Tower- this lovely place is not accessible from within the grounds, you have to leave. If you want to re-enter the Tower after lunch, just get security to sign your ticket on your way out.
Service slow and apathetic at best. The food is good but expensive. The servers or kitchen were unable to follow requests for simple changes to our order and the toilets were a mess.
What a great space, great location and great food. Our meal was prepared to a high standard with quality ingredients, and presented in a way that showed the chef had taken time to consider that 'the first bits is with the eye'. This was a return visit and will be back again soon :)
The service was abysmal. They didn’t tell us the kitchen was about to close and by the time we managed to get them to take our order we were no longer able to get a desert. The staff were not proactive in any way. The food (at least the food we managed to get) was average.
Service was poor. Food mixed quality but it shouldn't take over an hour to bring two portions of children's macaroni cheese just because we asked to move table to a shaded outdoor seat after ordering.
Met relatives from outside London for lunch. It was a really warm day. Would have preferred an outside space as and it was very hot inside. Service slow because there were not enough people serving for the number of covers but suited us as we were not in a hurry and we were not rushed. Food choice of the day was excellent and value for money for location really good. Will return.
We chose Sargeants Mess because of its close proximity to the Tower of London. It met our expectations in terms of ambience and decor. However, the food let the side down. The mashed potatoes had whole new potatoes in it, my food was cold, I had the salmon. The salmon was lukewarm and the potatoes were cold (the menu didn't say whether my potatoes should be hot/cold). My father's meal was also lukewarm, he had the lamb 'special'. The only thing that came out piping hot was the side order of chips. There was only one gluten/dairy free dessert available which was sorbet. We had gone there for a celebratory meal and would have splashed out on 3 courses but didn't because of the lack of attention to dietary requirements. Excellent range of alcoholic beverages though and the cocktails were exquisite. Best things about it? The view of Tower Bridge and its central location.
Good value, nice food but the service was very slow and staff were poorly informed unable to answer any questions regarding the menu
Served us flat prosecco ( in a carafe). Main meal took 2 hours to arrive. Taken all the ambiance away that Perkin Reveller did so well. Will not be returning.
What a shame. It's a great location and a great executive chef, but they really haven't got this one right.
After waiting 15 minutes for olives (the server even wrote down the order in case he forgot), we were pretty certain that things were not going well. The drinks choices were pretty poor as well with not a single bitter available.
The food was distinctly ordinary. The suet pudding could have been made by Frey Bentos and the tart was equally dull.
If you're a veggie, just don't bother, this is not for you. Nothing on the starter menu for you at all, but you can have leaves - sorry, salad.
There are dozens of restaurants close by - try them instead.
The service was very good and the food was fine, although the chicken main course was a somewhat underwhelming. Nothing wrong with it, but neither the chicken nor the chips were anything special. The prawn cocktail starter and the chocolate meringue dessert were a lot better.
But we will definitely go there again when we next visit the Tower of London.
This seems to be aimed at the passing tourist trade and has the ambience of a bar/café rather than a destination restaurant. Service was slow and the staff showed no warmth or personality. We ordered cocktails (hoping to enjoy them while browsing the menu) but they took so long to arrive that we had to order food and our starters arrived on the table at about the same time as the drinks. This seemed to be because the bar was so busy satisfying the numerous tourists drinking on the terrace - surely diners should be given some kind of priority? The menu was very safe and resembled 'pub grub' but the quality and presentation of the food was fine. This is all a bit of a pity because we were hoping for an interesting new addition or our local dining scene but we left disappointed.
Lovely food and lovely people. What more can I say.
Unfortunately, Mark Sergeant has created a real mess here - the food is the big let down as well as the interior and both make this place well below standard and not an evening dining venue. A great shame. Perkin Reveller on this site was better. And there are plenty of other better dining options over Tower Bridge now. Large tourist footfall may keep day trade ticking, but Londoners and visitors deserve in this iconic setting by the Tower. Time to muster the troops and sort this out, if it can be.
A lovely setting, great food and prompt service. What more could you want?
Good food, good service and a nice spot with a view of Tower Bridge or the Tower of London if you prefer.
Excellent food (we ordered the fish and chips) and lovely terrace.
