Great post matinee theatre bite to eat - great location - right by theatreland - love the traditional french brasserie menu - very good quality food and service!
Nice atmosphere, good food, super location, pre theatre menu’s
Sadly service is slow and non-personal.
Muy bueno todo el servicio no tanto
Balthazar’s in NYC is a secret pleasure of mine. Its a delightful recreation of a french brasserie from the Gilded Era but so meticulously and studied that I bet its combination of service and attention to detail in the food would be hard to fault even compared to the Brasserie Lipp or Vagenande. Usually I have steak frites but this time we ordered the burata and I had the Eggs Florentine. Did i say they have an on site bakery and you can’t stop eating the bread! The muffin of the eggs was homemade the spinach still firm and the poached eggs timed so that when served the yolks still warm and runny considering how busy the place was thats a miracle. The service was totally solid and when coffee and tea didn’t show up as ordered they comped them and couldn’t stop apologizing.
Always nice to be there!
Very nice everything The Food quality exceptional
We dined at Balthazar pre-theatre and had a fantastic experience. We had the Prix Fixe menu which was great value and delicious. The atmosphere and lighting in the venue were spot on and the service was fantastic. The best we had experienced in London in quite some time.
It was my sisters birthday and I wanted to treat her to lunch. It was fine enough. The server could have been a bit more inviting. Everyone else was fine and cheerful. Her main of chicken was enjoyable but my burger was a little too solid and with fries left me very full (I couldn't eat all). I didn't really like the dressing in the burger which had a strange taste. It was an ok lunch
I've been to Balthazur a few times and had lovely meals (mostly Brunch). I would come back but not for a while.
Excellent food with first class service, a little expensive though not surprisingly so given its location.
My favourite place for breakfast and love introducing friends. Everyone enjoyed the food - ordered extra coffee but it never came so a wee bit disappointed.
Had pre-theatre dinner at Balthazar this week. Great, buzzy place for a quick meal before our play. I felt it was slightly on the expensive side at £50 per head which was three courses and 3 glasses of wine. But the quality of the food was fine and service was good.
a very nice brasserie feel . food was very good and excellent coffee - great range of breakfast options including more 'healthy' options and some slightly more unusual dishes . excellent service and my guest paid - what more can you ask ?
Nice and excellent location. Good menu and wine list plus excellent service
One of the best breakfasts ive ever had! will definitely be coming back soon
3 of us were seated at a table meant for 2. There was no space on the table for plates, glasses, bread and cutlery. That all led to a very crowded and uncomfortable experience. Service was ok. When my friend accidentally dropped his glass of wine due to the space issue on the table it would have been nice if a replacement glass would have been offered. Food was good although it doesn't say on the menu that lobster comes with fries so I ordered another portion for no reason.
This is a lovely buzzy restaurant with good food and super service. I asked for a quieter table as I was catching up with an old friend and my hearing isn’t great. The restaurant were great at acknowledging my request and finding us a quieter table in which we were still able to enjoy the atmosphere but also able to have a good conversation.
Really good service and great atmosphere as always
Great service and the food was tip-top as usual.
No fresh flowers anymore?
Restrooms smells :c
Lamphoods had burn spots or just plain broken.
Waiter and waitresses did their job. No sparkels No empathy no Balthazar flair.
So when I will visit London next time, there’s no must for dine at Balthazar, for me, anymore.
Halloween decorations outside were amazing 🎃
The food is usually very good there and we go often however, this weekend seemed busier than usual and the food wasn't as good and the service was very slow.
Excellent Food & Service. One of my favourite ever restaurants in London. They have proper cocktails.
Used to be great. Food is now nothing short of abysmal
Great tasting food and good service
Top, well managed restaurant centrally located in Covent Garden, the heart of London.
Every time I visit I am never disappointed. This was an autumn treat for my hubby and I, luckily we made our reservarion a couple of weeks ago. Started with brunch and cocktails then stayed for another. The very busy and bustling Saturday morning did not slow or spoil the speedy and attentative service. Thank you again Balthazar until next time.
It’s very busy and has its charming, however, the food it’s not outstanding for what we pay for. Service could be better as well.
Came here for my partners birthday on a Friday a couple of weeks ago and the restaurant was very busy. We arrived early and were directed to the bar to get a drink. The bar area is small and with people seated along the length of the bar it was very difficult to get served with little space to stand without feeling like you were encroaching on someones conversation; so we left to get a drink and came back.
When we came back we were given a corner table, towards the rear of the restaurant, which was perfect for us. The menu was good for both food and wine; lots of variety and the service was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. We had the Jersey oysters with a glass of Champagne, steak tartare and garlic prawns to start. Followed by a rack of lamb washed down with a bottle of pinot noir and chocolate fondant for dessert. The food was good and portion sizes likewise. A nice gesture and post dessert touch was when my partner was served with a plate of macaroons and selection of petit fours with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate in chocolate and a candle to blow out.
Overall, good experience and we would go back.
We had a lovely meal. Service was great and the food was amazing. We got hassled a bit to leave the table but that was our own fault for chatting as we knew the turnaround time. Just a shame it goes so quick!
Delicious food, attentive staff and the birthday surprise done by the staff was wonderful
Met a friend for catch up and lunch. Mains were excellent and I can personally recommend the lobster spaghetti/ linguini. Price reasonable for quality of food and location. The place was extremely busy which is to be expected of a restaurant in the middle of Covent Garden and there was a queue even for our reserved table. The dessert apple tart tartine was good but a little on the slightly warm side. Service was patchy. It was reasonable at the start but then deteriorated as the lunch service ended and they were clearly preparing for dinner (took us at least 15 mins to get anyone's attention to pay). All in all I would venture there again and even recommend (with a caveat on the service!).
Great food in a beautiful room. Love the balance of classy but casual atmosphere. Excellent service. Confit duck and a good glass of Pinot with friends - perfect.
Eggs Benedict were amazing! Waiter was incredibly friendly. Balthazar is comfortable and warm restaurant. Service was impeccable!
Lovely venue with great food and great ambience. Only negative is the overpriced wine menu (£66 for a bottle of Sancerre is not great) but generally a great place to visit for a nice meal.
Wonderful business lunch again! Great food with fast and very friendly service. The Balthazar chopped salad with chips is the best and the petit fours to finish with a coffee ends things perfectly!
Too packed between tables, should change/revise food menu choices
A great evening as usual. We were well looked after by very friendly staff.
Food was ok but at £26 the lamb rump should not have been covered in fat. The waitress was unsmiling throughout and I resented the service charge for it. Everything was ok, not worthy of specific complaint but it was noisy and the tables were uncomfortably close. Certainly nothing special.
Very very busy but this didn’t detract from the service or the food. All the staff were happy and smiling and nothing was too much trouble.
A first time visit to Balthazar and expectations were far from met. We booked in advance yet possibly had the worse table in the restaurant by a pillar that service staff had to squeeze past to reach the adjoining table, bumping into us each time. The food (Salmon tartare, burrata, Steak and Frites, Moules and Frites) was average, meat tough and full of gristle and the staff did not seem competent in making any recommendations on either the food or wine list. After several attempts to ask for the bill, we made our way to the service counter and relayed our experience. We were offered a "glass of champagne" at the bar by way of an apology which we appreciated however were served Sparkling Wine. When we mentioned we had been offered Champagne, we were advised "there is no difference" by the barman. We left the sparkling wine and asked for two glasses of wine which we were charged for. Such a shame as I had read so many positive reviews.
