Succotash - Penn Quarter DC
SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

Do not go here for restaurant week. We had 4 people and could only get one of two sides offered (makes no sense). The server recommended the watermelon side. It was plain watermelon with sesame seeds and peanuts. Throw those ingredients together at home, it will taste the same. This was my 2nd time having the chicken and waffles. They are not very good, very dry. The biscuits and gravy and friend tomatoes are great. It’s a good restaurant and love the ambience. Just don’t go for restaurant week.
In one word, EXCELLENT!!! The food was to die for. I had the lobster benedict. The lobster was divine, and the eggs were perfectly cooked, and came in scrumptious biscuits. I also tried the watermelon, fried peanuts salad. I wish I hadn’t ordered it, since I don’t live in DC and am now craving it. And my drink was excellent (peach bellini). They are very accommodating, the service is excellent and the decor is absolutely beautiful. Excellent place. Can’t wait to go back to DC to visit Succotash again!
Went for Restaurant Week with a group. Sampled everything and it was very good!
Food was not up to par. Not sure if it’s due to restaurant week or other factors, but I’ve been to Succotash before (the other location) and it was 10x better than today’s experience. Service was also very slow. Not a great experience at all.
Amazing ambiance and food. Went for restaurant week and was not disappointed. The baby back ribs were a highlight as was the dirty rice and all the appetizers!
Steak was not cooked as requested but the manager immediately came by and made it right. It was a minor mistake and they happen. The staff was on top of it though and I didn't have to ask for anything- first class operation!
Amazing food, fantastic service and such a great atmosphere! Wonderful experience, all around. Highly recommended.
I went for a farewell dinner during summer Resto Week with a friend and former coworker. Wowee WOW!!! I’ve been to Succotash before and enjoyed my meal, but this was over the top. Their RW menu was the entire meal for the table — as in you get a family-style sample of ALL the options. My friend and I could not believe that even included the three entrée choices, which were hardly sample size. They even gave us the some of delectable ice cream they had (blanking on the name, but it was fantastic). We got the Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned at a special price, which was a perfect topper to a superb meal. Their food is already the bomb, but that RW menu has got to be one of the best options around. And our server, Desislav (Desi), was super duper. Thank you so much, Succotash! Highly recommended this restaurant and location. Oh yeah: Great atmosphere too — part festive, part intimate. Just a fab restaurant with great food and service.
Great cocktails French Martini and old Fashioned. Interesting and reasonable very good wine, St Innocent Pinot and really wonderful subtle flavors in traditional dishes: fried green tomato salad, chicken wings, and watermelon with roasted peanuts. Catfish and ribs were other worldly, chocolate pecan tarts and lemon whip were divine.
Great service, great food, exceptional restaurant week deal. We had a fun night of wonderfully paced dishes and left stuffed and happy. Can't wait for the next restaurant week so we can return!
Date night for DC Restaurant Week. Thank you to management for topping off our special night with a glass of bubbly!
I visited Succotash for restaurant week on 8/14, what an excellent experience. The service, food, decor and overall visit was outstanding!!!
I would recommend for drinks to enjoy the ambiance.
All staff was pleasant and Drew our server was fantastic!
Food was good but the service was slow. We arrived at about 1220 and did not conclude our meal (get a check) until about 145. That’s a little bit unacceptable for lunch
Food is flavorful and enjoyable...service pace went from stray/fast to slow and lagging. Tasting meal was a ton of food, and all delicious. Ribs where dry (that seems to be a consistent comment) and cookie was dry and slightly burnt.
The food was gross and the waitress kept flirting with my date. Even he noticed it; now that's shameless.
We were there to celebrate our 29th Wedding Anniversary and the server and staff were wonderful. They gifted us glasses of champagne to toast our milestone.
This is one of the tastiest brunches I’ve attended for both food and drinks. I had the The shrimp and grits, kimchi collards and the smoked wings and everything tasted great. My entree came a cold in certain spots, but the manager sent it back and got me a new piping hot entree ASAP and another drink to boot.
Phenomenal service, fantastic food and wonderful ambiance
Would definitely eat here again. The burger was amazing! The atmosphere was really nice and it is a very cute place. The only thing that wasn’t great was my halibut was a little dry.
Took my wife there for date night and to celebrate her birthday. The atmosphere was great, it wasn't too loud, and the food was amazing! I grew up in NC, so I am no stranger to southern food. My wife and I ordered two famous southern staples - Chicken & Waffles and Shrimp & Grits. We've prob had these same dishes 50 times in 50 different ways all over the South and Succotash's version of these famous dishes were absolutely delicious and each had their own unique style. Wash it down with their Old Fashioned. It was exceptional as well!
Service was great from start to finish. My first time there and I was very impressed. Beautiful decor great food. I will defiantly be dining here again!
My parents were visiting and I took them here, and we all thought it was great! It’s beautiful inside and wasn’t super crowded (7:30pm on a Thursday). The menu has many interesting choices. The service was decent, and the food was delicious. Relatively cheap, too, I’m actually surprised it wasn’t more expensive. Definitely a great spot to check out
Love the service and the food!!
Appetizers: we got the wings, crispy green beans and steak tartare - everything was magnificent. It was my husband and my 3 children (15, 13, 10) so we had to fight over the last wing. My 10 year old son won.
Entrees: the rest of my family ordered the chicken and waffles and I ordered the shrimp and grits. I was a bit nervous about my choice after the appetizer wings but when the fried chicken came out it was dry and a bit burnt as if had been refried.
Our server was really patient and requested sides of eggs for us even though brunch was over and even though we requested over medium they where over hard.
I might try Succotash again maybe when the kitchen we can arrive earlier at brunch time. But the appetizers, my shrimp grits, and the waffles were delicious.
We went as a group for brunch. The food and service were great. I would recommend.
The food and service is incredible! The booths are super comfortable and our server was so sweet and funny. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was the best one I have ever had. The chicken was topped with parmesan cheese and bourbon maple syrup which was amazing!!! It’s a super classy, unique restaurant without being overly expensive. My meal was under $30.
Nieces 21st. Amazing food and drinks. Split the chicken it’s huge. Hush puppies were amazing. Loved it
I invited a friend to dinner. The restaurant has the kind of setting and a wine & cocktail menu that is to the expectations, service was great, but the food was not worth it’s salt (and there was plenty of salt in it, pun intended). I may try this place again but will order the “southerners classics” such as friend chicken and mac’n cheese.
This was a meh place. The service was good, not great. The food was okay but was less than expected for a restaurant of this caliber.
I went for lunch and had chicken and waffles. The underside of my waffle was burnt. Like they made it beforehand, warmed it up on a griddle and left it too long. If I'm paying this much, I expect it to be better than Roscoe's. The pecan rolls however were amazing.
Overall, DC has too many spectacular places to waste my money here.
Pleasant environment for a dinner where conversation was important. Food was quite good.
Although I'd made the reservation noting that it was a birthday celebration, I was quite disappointed that the restaurant took no note of that and did nothing at all to acknowledge that
My wife had been to Succotash before and selected it for our anniversary dinner. The service was outstanding. Our server, Indigo, knew the menu inside and out, advising us on the spiciness of several dishes we were considering and allowing us to order sequentially. We shared the fried green tomatoes salad (and a corn bread starter from the chef); our entrees were the shrimp dessert was the fruit and cream (and a few pecan cookies from the chef). The noise level was very high at the bar, a little less so at our table upstairs, but much quieter as the evening went on.
Great pre-Queen dinner. Food good Southern fare, waitstaff fabulous and cocktail menu perfect!
Great service and wonderful food. A terrific experience from start to finish.
We wanted to like it more but both our dishes were just okay. The Shrimp and Grits had bland grits. The he dirty chicken is their attempt at Nashville’s hot chicken and it falls well short. Servers were great as was the bar staff. Would go back but will try something else on the menu.
Our server was super nice and attentive even though part of my party was 45 minutes late in the slow afternoon time.
I had a great and enjoyable time here at this place. My server Makeya provided exceptional service.
It was so loud .... really was a deal breaker. Food and service was fine otherwise.
