Japanese
Flesh & Buns Covent Garden, from the team behind Bone Daddies and Shackfuyu, is located within the bustling Seven Dials area in Covent Garden. Inspired by Japanese izakayas, roughly translated as a pub or place designed for informal eating and drinking, Flesh & Buns is the first restaurant in London to specialise in gua bao buns (DIY filled steamed buns).
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.

We have been here a few times as we love the food. The lamb dish never disappoints. It's delicious. The miso glazed aubergine poke bowl was very good too. Spicy tuna sushi was ok and so was the chicken yaki (skewers). We wanted to try the Japanese soufflé cheesecake but it was very dry and tasteless...we sent it back and they were very good at offering us a different t pudding so we had the delicious salted caramel donuts. Service was very good and attentive and we were invited to a frozen margarita to make up. We would still come back but order only the dishes we know we love. Baos and poke bowls are always great.

Great Japanese Chicken Wings, mediocre sashimi plate (def not worth almost 40£) I would say go for the non-sushi plates, as they are way tastier than the actual sushi. The bad review is due to the appalling service. We had 3 different waiters who consistently brought us the wrong plate. We had to physically switch plates with the table next to us, as the waiter got it confused 3 times in a row. Plus, our third waiter barely spoke engish and couldn't not understand the issue. Would not recommend.

We liked this place. The staff was super friendly and nice. One of the drinks we ordered with the pea flower gin was really outstanding. We had the rice cracker, shishito pepper, a cuke salad and squid starters. The crackers were great the salsa ordinary and did not detect shiso in the avocado. The cuke salad was good but would have liked more cukes to lettuce ratio. The squid was ok, not great, and skimpy but the yuzu mayo was really great. The peppers were ok. We had miso eggplant, pork belly and duck. The eggplant itself was good, not so crazy about the miso preparation. The pork was great and the duck was also very good. We weren’t crazy about the plum sauce; it needed something. These dishes would have been improved by some green onions and a bunch of cilantro. We had the cheesecake dessert with whiskey ice cream. Found the cheesecake bland but loved the ice cream . They very kindly brought the child with us a sweetly decorated scoop of mango sorbet which she loved. This restaurant is rated 4 1/2 stars. I would rate it 4.3 based on our visit but we might have ordered more adventurously with out a child in tow.

Went a month ago and loved it so came back with whole family and my parents. Everyone enjoyed it. I recommend everything but especially sizzling beef hot plate in poke section.

Lively cellar restaurant with Japanese fusion feel. Food generally very good - especially the Chicken wings, Crispy duck and pork in buns. Relaxed and informal

Sashimi was nice but cut very thick the seabsss was uneatable as so thick and chewy. The buns are great but one between two would be enough. The chips and dip were great. You can’t take the food home really as they don’t have take away boxes Tables way too close together and the squashed everyone on one side of the restaurant when the other side was empty Toliets were no very clean. The concept is great but execution needs improving.
