Pluses , the weather was good, we ate outside. Service was good, I enjoyed my glass of Nyetimber, which I had been wanting to try for some time.
Minuses, the food was not of the standard that I would expect at the prices charged. I left half of my steak tartare due to the overuse of fresh chilli, the waiter told the chef, then the waiter told me that the chef said that he had “ overdone the chilli”. I was not charged for the second bottle of water as a consolation, however, I only ate half my serving of steak tartare, which cost £16. for a first course portion.
My classic recipe for steak tartare includes 3 drops of Tabasco only, fresh chilli is not used, also it includes a raw egg in the mix; I understand that a raw egg might not be suitable these days however, a soft poached egg, served cold would be a good replacement. I was served an egg yolk, firmly cooked. I doubt that I would book the Whistler restaurant again, a shame because I have happy memories of it from many years ago.

The Rex Whistler is such a treat. The food was fantastic; we went for Sunday lunch and superb food and inspired wine choices. As ever, the team were charming and knowledgeable. I'd recommend it to everyone as long as that means I can still get in.

Service attentive, but not intrusive. Food enjoyable and good portions so meal good value. The paintings in the restaurant make it an unique place to eat and on the day there the atmosphere was friendly, too. An ideal place to go after visiting an exhibition. The only drawback is the closeness of some tables, but this is outweighed by the overall high quality of the visit.

Lunch with daughter visiting from Cambridge, who is vegan. Good choice of starters and mains (we were too full for a pudding, though my husband chose cheese) including vegan options in both. All delicious, especially a starter salad which was quite exceptional and that is rare for a salad! Generously served and accompanied by a half-bottle of vegan white wine from a special vegan wine list (a first for me!) The Whistler Room is always a delight and was very quiet and peaceful - strangely, at a Saturday lunchtime. Only gripe: choice of cheese was rather meagre and hadn't been refreshed - presumably, since the day before. Could do with a wider and more original choice of soft cheeses, other than goat's. Otherwise - exemplary! All that and a wonderful art gallery too!

Fantastic atmospheric restaurant with great food with even better wine. We were looked after by Matthew Randall who was both knowledgeable and passionate about the wine which made for an excellent lunch. Thank you to him and the team as they are doing a great job.

Good selection of dishes. Properly cooked and tasty, although both diners who had the Halibut thought it was too salty. The cheapest bottle of white wine, although very acceptable was £24. Bread portion tiny and should have coincided with the crab starter.

We had a very nice meal sat outside on a lovely day. You can hear the road but it was still nice to be in the gardens. My only small issue with the food was that the preserved lemon pieces in my starter salad were very very salty. So I had to fish them out. Gluten free was very well catered for. My halibut was excellent.
The rabbit terrine starter and the lamb to follow were very much enjoyed by my sister. An enjoyable visit and I hope to return.

I haven’t been here since I left London 11 years ago, when I would visit regularly with me mates not just for the good food or the excellent wine list but also for the service (after a walk round the daubs of course 😂) .....Nothing’s changed food, wine and service still bang on. The lamb was so succulent the skin was crispy and the fat had not been rendered out. The wine I chose with this was perfect

I love the Whistler it has been my favourite for years but things seem to be slipping.
My £14 starter comprised a teaspoon of crab, in something like mayonaise also with shredded vegetable
The previous week in another good restaurant I had a whole crab for the same.
The main course os a Barsley chop was generous but the addition of two anchovy fillets seemed poinless.
The pudding ( mango and coconut was delicious.
One of the real attractions of the restaurant has been the wine list.
This seems to have diminished and the set wine suggestions a real mistake.
Please go back to how it was.

While some of the food tasted nice much of it wasn't cooked well. Hard raw cubes of potato in the green pea and squid risotto. Side dish of potatoes heavily oversalted, almost inedible. Should've sent back. Very plain - no butter, parsley or mint. Bones in my fillet of halibut. Rabbit pate not seasoned. Tiny dessert with squirts of stuff too small to taste. Not good value for a lot of money.

A relaxing meal before we saw the Van Gogh exhibition. Food was very good although on the menu the haddock said it came with squid. The sauce was squid flavoured so the description was misleading. Having said this the dish was very good.

After knowing about this restaurant for 40 years I finally had lunch there. The mural by Whistler is impressive. Food is imaginative and good quality, beautiful presented as well. Staff are friendly and efficient and not too intrusive NOR too slow - just right.
The drinks were reasonably priced.

Had such a nice meal in nice surroundings. The wine pairing was spot on. The meal was tasty and a work of art in itself. The portion size was perfect for me but some may find it too small. If you like olives I recommend the sorbet with the carrot cake. It sounds strange but it was delicious. I have to say this meal made our visit to Tate Britain even more special.

Having lunch at the restaurant in the Tate is always a delight. Although a bit pricey, the ambiance alone is worth the visit. My lamb luncheon was beautifully presented and cooked perfectly. Sitting and admiring the Whistler mural is always enjoyable and I like to use the quiet atmosphere as a chance to chill out from the noise and hubbub of London.

We were impressed by the food, the colours, flavours, and presentation as well as providing food that was very healthy. It was good value for money for a restaurant in London I would think. We were told that all the dishes for the main course on that day were gluten free, and only one dessert contained gluten. The St Joseph, French red wine was really distinctive. The staff were delightful, not rushing us at any stage.

Very warm and welcoming and the staff were very friendly. We thought the food choices, particularly the starters, was a bit limiting especially if you are not a fish eater. Overall the quality of the food was excellent. The staffing levels looked a little tight as we had to wait quite a while in few occasions to order more drinks. Overall it’s a really nice lunch venue

Good service and food but in the comments before booking we were asked if it was a special occasion. I ticked ‘ yes’ as it was my partner’s birthday, which we were asked to indicate.
Didn’t affect anything though. Not a criticism of staff but rather why ask the question, if it has no effect ?
Thanks
