Excellent location, service and food - well done, will be back
Excellent ambiance and delicious food. I would definitely recommend this to others
It's the setting that sets this restaurant apart. \very busy Easter Sunday, but lovely ambience and gorgeous to have tea after the light lunch in the garden. More choice for non meat eaters would not go amiss.
Set lunch menu comprehensive and appropriately priced. All three enjoyed food immensely. Warm welcome contributed to a most enjoyable experience. One of my favourite venues.
Great food! Great service!
We have been to this restaurant previously, and enjoyed it. It was the 30th December and I had specifically phoned in advance to check if the Sunday lunch menu would be available, and was told we would have the choice of it and the festive menu. On arrival they did not have our reservation, although I had a confirmation email. We had invited friends, who had arrived ahead of us, and did not know what to do. The problem was rapidly sorted but without an apology. The Sunday lunch menu was unavailable, and for me the A la carte and festive menu was a little too rich for a post Christmas meal. However we had invited friends so did not complain. The celeriac starter was tasteless, the other food was competent but wouldn't win any Michelin stars. The waiters seemed overstretched and some of them had clearly not showered before work. Perhaps a personal comment but being served by an unwashed body is off-putting. I would have rated the ambiance higher if only looking at the setting. All in all disappointing.
Sitting in the fireplace not comfortable. Cramped
Rhubarb is a total delight. Stunning decor and service, with food and drink to match. Nothing is too much trouble, from the doormen to the waiting personnel professionalism is without reproach. I had my 13 month old granddaughter with me and she was treated like a star. I love the hotel, Prestonfield House, as much as I do the restaurant. Strongly recommended for visitors and locals alike.
Went for my wife’s birthday as a family. The experience is excellent, from having an aperitif in the small lounge beforehand to the splendid dining room. I felt that the food was overpriced for what we ate, £21 for a tarte tatin, even if it’s for 2 to share, is quite toppy. However, we had a good time, and would consider returning.
Prestonfield never disappoints
We brought friends from the USA to show them something special and they were blown away
They commented that they hadn’t seen anything like it in the US! That’s the whole
Nowhere delivers the complete experience you get at Prestonfield
They made friends with the 2 Highland cattle and peacocks before enjoying the unique ambience for pre dinner drinks.
The food was of the very highest standard and the service legendary
Can’t wait to return........
When traveling, my husband and I always try to find one truly romantic restaurant for our last night. Rhubarb did not disappoint. I had heirloom tomatoes (incredibly flavorful) with homemade burrata for my appetizer, followed by the best lamb I have even tasted. My husband had a slow cooked rib dish followed by grouse. He raved about both. The service was excellent, attentive but not hovering. Overall, we had the wonderful romantic dinner we sought — a great send off to our wonderful time in Scotland.
We asked our taxi driver for his recommendation and he came through in Spades! Less than a 10 minute drive from town center, you feel like you have escaped to a country manor, which you have. Beautiful setting with food, drink and service to match.
Dining here is just a pleasure .. great setting, service, character and food
Superb choice on 3 course lunch menus . We both chose the Christmas one which was just delicious . It was a birthday treat for me - the service was excellent and we felt very welcome. We would certainly recommend it .
Excellent ambiance and service plus the food was better we expected. We will definitely come back.
Everything was excellent! The food the service and the ambience!
A mixed experience. The food overall was quite good. The grounds, hotel and restaurant were quite lovely. The service was disappointing on many fronts. We showed up and despite showing the maitre d the email from the restaurant (2 emails) he couldn't find our resv in the books and seemed a little surly about the whole thing.
Our server who was really quite lovely and helpful, nonetheless was not familiar with the menu and had to frequently return to the kitchen for clarifications. Not something you would expect in a restaurant that is trying to brand itself as a very upscale restaurant. Poorly trained staff are the hallmark of a poorly run establishment and that is a fact in the restaurant business. Food was good, interesting ambience but the staff needs training. And this is not the staffs fault. They were uniformly friendly and trying to be helpful. This is squarely on the management who are failing miserably in their training efforts.
I love Rhubarb for special occasions...it is very atmospheric and feels 'special'. The menu is very good, as is the excellent service.
The venue is fantastic, a beautiful prorerty, immaculate decor and lots of history. We dinned at The Witchery the previous evening (operated by the same people) and Rhubarb was recommended when booking this.
The service at Rhubarb started rather slow, we had to wait for menus and water for sometime despite being asked by 2 memebers of staff if we would like to order water.
Once they sorted out who was doing what the service improved greatly and the rest of the meal was served in a timely manner.
The atmosphere is very subdued and quiet but very pleasant.
Overall it was a very nice evening and the food was very good.
A fantastic experience. Great service, excellent food, and a broad and accessible wine list.
Everything was perfect. Good was very good and everything was just so relaxed.
Fantastic food and service-- went twice in one week and equally outstanding both times. Menu is creative and flavors are wonderful. Waiters were knowledgeable about the menu. The goat cheese burrata was terrific as were the grilled peaches. The gnudi was both interesting and wonderfully tasteful. Rhubarb is great with vegetables and fish.
We had a wonderful lunch to celebrate my daughters birthday at Rhubarb. The sunday lunch menu is extremely good value and the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The wine menu is quite pricey but extensive . We appreciated the range of wines by the glass which allowed us all to pick what we wanted. I would certainly go back.
Can't rate Rhubarb high enough. The setting is beautiful, the staff attentive but not overly so.
We had three course including the Chateaubriand which was outstanding.
Would definitely return here.
Beautiful setting and ambience with excellent food and service
My husband and I absolutely LOVED this restaurant!!! The decor is just stunning, the food is amazing and the staff is beyond friendly and courteous. If we had more time in Edinburgh, we would have gone back during the day to see the grounds better. This is also a great place for a special occasion and/or date night. Totally romantic. LOVE!
Made a reservation here for celebration of our 25th anniversary while we were visiting Scotland. My wife learned about it from a TV special. Quite simply the best restuarant experience I have ever had.
Be prepared to spend the evening as this is fine dining at its best from the wine list right down to the desert course.
It is expensive but worth it. The service was great and the atmosphere was compelling. I would highly recommend it.
What a gorgeous atmosphere and welcome. The food was really superb and we all enjoyed every mouthful. The octopus starter and venison were particular highlights. Many thanks for a super evening.
Wonderful surroundings & the staff were very attentive to our needs
The food was wonderful.
Recomend the set meal @ £35 - worth it to see the venue !
Fun evening in a splendidly over-the-top dining room. The rather dated fancified meal was all rather too salted. High flowers obscured the view across the over-large dining table for six which meant conversation as a group was difficult. Despite splendour a mild air of faulty towers. The staff started ironing the adjacent tables' cloths as it got late never welcoming. However food arrived speedily - and it was a jolly evening.
Whenever we visit Edinburgh we try to go to Rhubarb because we enjoy it so much,
Unfortunately we were let down initially as we went into the lounge for an aperitif and were then apparently forgotten about! It took ages to get menus and then my husband had to chase the one member of staff he could find, for our orders to be taken. Apologies were made but we were not even offered a complimentary drink. Not good.!
We noticed that customers that went straight into the dining room were dealt with more or less immediately. I seem to recall on our last visit a similar thing occurred but not as bad as this.
We were seated in the lounge for 20 minutes before we were offered a drink. Menues were left with us, drinks order taken and waiter had to ask who had ordeed what. Our food orders were taken efficiently, another waiter returned to take us to the dining table. He had no tray to carry our drinks through, we had to ask, then he only brought the ladies' ones. We were offered menusagain and told the waiter we had already ordered. We were not helped to be seated, had to pull out our own chairs.
Food was excellent, the presentation was wel arranged and the taste fabulous.
All in all the experience was let down by the standards of service. We havea five star gold B&B and send a lot of our guests to Rhubarb, so wanted you to know our experience.
Rhubarb Restaurant at Prestonfield is a hidden gem in the Edinburgh restaurant scene. Set in beautiful greenery in the lee of Arthur's seat, Rhubarb is well worth a visit for anyone who enjoys delicious food served in an atmospheric setting.
This was our second visit to Rhubarb and it didn't disappoint. It is such a beautiful place with exquisite decor. The service is excellent and the food second to none.
Prestonfield House (now a hotel, in which Rhubarb restaurant is based) is an amazing old building, oozing in character, and a great setting for a special meal. We had a short guided tour of the house, by one of the staff, after our meal. The "A la Carte" menu is quite expensive, the wines especially so. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience.
The food was amazing and the staff were fantastic 10/10
We had the most lovely afternoon for my mum's 70th. We supped tea and nibbled tasty bites on the lawn as the peacocks roamed around our table!
I do not often eat here - unfortunately - but have always appreciated the delicious food, friendly service and sumptuous surroundings (not for minimalists !) We were lucky this time to be able to drink an apéritif outside on a balcony. A great start to a great meal!
Within half-an-hour of receiving confirmation of the booking from OpenTable, I received a phone call from the restaurant informing me that they were fully booked, therefore no reservation. What a useless service! (Star ratings based on previous visits)
