Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with incredible staff and wonderful food. My husband and I came whilst on our honeymoon and the staff went out of their way to make our night special. Would recommend to anyone looking for a romantic evening and spectacular food and ambience.
Our second time at Prestonfield in recent years didn't let us down: quite a few guests, and good ambience for people watching. Service was attentive but slightly clumsy.
The food was beautifully presented, from smoked salmon to watercress veloute, nicely seasoned apart from potatoes which our party found slightly overseasoned. Portions were modest and left plenty of room for dessert and petit fours. Wine selection might have been great but because there is no option other than a QR code, we simply chose from the house options.
The restaurant is gorgeous and the food was very tasty. The sommelier was of great help. But I’m sad to say the service was average, definitely didn’t reflect ‘special occasion’ dining, or fine dining. Our server was very friendly but constantly made errors with mixing up tables, giving us salt & pepper in mini pouches like in a fish and chip place, bringing us the wrong bill, not providing appropriate cutlery (spoons), and never describing the food when it was brought to us, which left us guessing particularly with cheeses. I was expecting top experienced service but got friendly pub staff service.
I don’t want to sound like a snob but if your heart is on an exceptional experience, you can’t help but feel let down when do many things go ‘wrong’.
Opentable booking for a birthday meal, but they seemed to have lost the booking 🤷🏻♀️
Service was not the best, but the servers are polite and courteous, but time taken to order, and be served items was was not as timely as expected (for fine dining?)
Food was good, nice presentation. Drinks are great (cocktails too). QR code menu doesn’t seem to work on android phones very well though.
Scenic view, peacocks in the garden. Resident cat comes to say hello ☺️
I’m not so sure dress code is strictly smart for dining since there were casually dressed others..
Beautiful grounds, right next to Arthur’s Seat so had the wow factor before we sat down! Our servers were really lovely and very attentive. The food was amazing and very good value, but I gave a 4/5 because although the Hake was perfectly cooked, the risotto that came with wasn’t as fantastic. Will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh!
Food is well presented however lacks distinctive flavours and nothing has the wow factor. Service is fine but like most places these days, is hurried.
Excellent social distancing and covid precautions taken.
Food was delicious
Amazing dining space, worth visiting only for being able to see the house.
Food is also excellent although bigger portions would be better, leaves you craving for some more.
Staff is amazingly helpful and professional.
Highly recommend it
As ever the food is always very tasty at Rhubarb. Although pricey the latest 'subsidy' makes it even more enjoyable for a fifer. Seriously though we find the Rhubarb always meets and often exceeds our expectations. The beef wellington was sublime!1 Many thanks.
Lovely location and food.
An oasis in the madness.
Fantastic food and setting can’t wait to go back
Service was so poor. Also had put a note on the booking and spoke to manager prior to sunday to arrange for something special for our anniversary but they completely forgot or did not bother to do as promised. Was very disappointed.
Giving myself and 2 granddaughters a special treat, we were cordially welcomed, shown to a lovely window table and excellently served throughout the meal. Every course was a delight, the steaks particularly juicy, and the treat was well worth the money.
Fantastic experience great service we will be back
Waitress who served us was fantastic in the Stuart room! Thank you
Can’t fault this please. Absolutely perfect for a special occasion 👏🏻
Fabulous great way to end lockdown ! Great service and ambience
Just perfect great quality, service was fantastic but not intrusive
Food was delicious and perfect portion size not too small but not stuffed
Great venue in beautiful location. Excellent service and food.
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with impeccable service and lovely surroundings. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a night of luxury.
From entranceway to dinner to a drink in the ornate public rooms, I loved every minute.
Starters: my Smoked Salmon was "OK" but my wife's Chicken Veloute did not taste very nice.
Main courses: her Beef en Croute was good but the rice in my Risotto had a rather "nutty" consistency (i.e. it was a little undercooked).
Puddings: both had Creme Brulee and they were good.
An Amazing Restaurant
If one day you want To feel you’re a Queen ou a King, go there!
Excellent location, service and food - well done, will be back
Excellent ambiance and delicious food. I would definitely recommend this to others
It's the setting that sets this restaurant apart. \very busy Easter Sunday, but lovely ambience and gorgeous to have tea after the light lunch in the garden. More choice for non meat eaters would not go amiss.
Set lunch menu comprehensive and appropriately priced. All three enjoyed food immensely. Warm welcome contributed to a most enjoyable experience. One of my favourite venues.
Great food! Great service!
We have been to this restaurant previously, and enjoyed it. It was the 30th December and I had specifically phoned in advance to check if the Sunday lunch menu would be available, and was told we would have the choice of it and the festive menu. On arrival they did not have our reservation, although I had a confirmation email. We had invited friends, who had arrived ahead of us, and did not know what to do. The problem was rapidly sorted but without an apology. The Sunday lunch menu was unavailable, and for me the A la carte and festive menu was a little too rich for a post Christmas meal. However we had invited friends so did not complain. The celeriac starter was tasteless, the other food was competent but wouldn't win any Michelin stars. The waiters seemed overstretched and some of them had clearly not showered before work. Perhaps a personal comment but being served by an unwashed body is off-putting. I would have rated the ambiance higher if only looking at the setting. All in all disappointing.
Sitting in the fireplace not comfortable. Cramped
Rhubarb is a total delight. Stunning decor and service, with food and drink to match. Nothing is too much trouble, from the doormen to the waiting personnel professionalism is without reproach. I had my 13 month old granddaughter with me and she was treated like a star. I love the hotel, Prestonfield House, as much as I do the restaurant. Strongly recommended for visitors and locals alike.
Went for my wife’s birthday as a family. The experience is excellent, from having an aperitif in the small lounge beforehand to the splendid dining room. I felt that the food was overpriced for what we ate, £21 for a tarte tatin, even if it’s for 2 to share, is quite toppy. However, we had a good time, and would consider returning.
Prestonfield never disappoints
We brought friends from the USA to show them something special and they were blown away
They commented that they hadn’t seen anything like it in the US! That’s the whole
Nowhere delivers the complete experience you get at Prestonfield
They made friends with the 2 Highland cattle and peacocks before enjoying the unique ambience for pre dinner drinks.
The food was of the very highest standard and the service legendary
Can’t wait to return........
When traveling, my husband and I always try to find one truly romantic restaurant for our last night. Rhubarb did not disappoint. I had heirloom tomatoes (incredibly flavorful) with homemade burrata for my appetizer, followed by the best lamb I have even tasted. My husband had a slow cooked rib dish followed by grouse. He raved about both. The service was excellent, attentive but not hovering. Overall, we had the wonderful romantic dinner we sought — a great send off to our wonderful time in Scotland.
We asked our taxi driver for his recommendation and he came through in Spades! Less than a 10 minute drive from town center, you feel like you have escaped to a country manor, which you have. Beautiful setting with food, drink and service to match.
Dining here is just a pleasure .. great setting, service, character and food
Superb choice on 3 course lunch menus . We both chose the Christmas one which was just delicious . It was a birthday treat for me - the service was excellent and we felt very welcome. We would certainly recommend it .
Excellent ambiance and service plus the food was better we expected. We will definitely come back.
Everything was excellent! The food the service and the ambience!
A mixed experience. The food overall was quite good. The grounds, hotel and restaurant were quite lovely. The service was disappointing on many fronts. We showed up and despite showing the maitre d the email from the restaurant (2 emails) he couldn't find our resv in the books and seemed a little surly about the whole thing.
Our server who was really quite lovely and helpful, nonetheless was not familiar with the menu and had to frequently return to the kitchen for clarifications. Not something you would expect in a restaurant that is trying to brand itself as a very upscale restaurant. Poorly trained staff are the hallmark of a poorly run establishment and that is a fact in the restaurant business. Food was good, interesting ambience but the staff needs training. And this is not the staffs fault. They were uniformly friendly and trying to be helpful. This is squarely on the management who are failing miserably in their training efforts.
