Food excellent as is the service and overall dining experience. Hope to be back soon!
We lived this restaurant- we had a great view of the old course- perfect!
excellent food. 65 minutes from order to first course is impossible. the handling of beverages ie opening of red wine is s barbarian act and more show than knowhow
Very nice, but also somewhat formal. Not a typical after golf place, but the food is good and the setting is "classier" than other St Andrew's spots.
We ate here for a special family dinner while visiting St. Andrews, and it was lovely food while looking out over the 18th green at St. Andrews' Old Course. What a perfect evening! Food was amazing and perfectly cooked and served. All waitstaff was friendly and helpful.
a full house but service impeckable as always: great food and a nice wine list to match . Well prepared at every stage great variety with locally sourced seafood and meat.
I didn't know it was Rusack's Hotel when I booked the meal. I thought it was a simple little Italian, so it was with some trepidation that we entered the restaurant. There are times when a high class hotel fails to deliver in their restaurants, but this was not one of these times.
The food and the service were exceptional. The ox cheek was talked about for days after and the whole experience was very special. Well done to all concerned. You deserve to be bursting at the seams every night.
I love this restaurant. We ate there every breakfast and 4 times for dinner when we stayed at the Russacks Hotel in St Andrews Scotland. Excellent food and service. Plan to return the next time we are in St Andrews. The view of the Old Course and West Sands Beach is magical.
First visit to Rocca and I can't wait to go back. The food was superb with the most amazing flavours. The staff were beyond helpful - so warm and friendly and took time to explain everything on the menu. The ambience and decor in the restaurant is very relaxing with chilled, laid back music playing in the background.........
Just fabulous - YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!
My wife and I ate here for her 40th birthday celebration dinner. We arrived to find the restaurant very quiet (it was late December, almost Christmas). There were a couple of empty tables laid out with Christmas crackers etc so we figured that there may be some atmosphere later. Our table was situated at one corner of the restaurant, next to a radiator which was blasting out heat so we politely asked if we could move the table slightly. This was handled well by the waiting staff and we thought nothing more of it. Around five minutes later, the staff informed us that they had set a new table for us that we'd perhaps find more comfortable. This was a godsend. It was next to the window with a direct view to the Old Course Clubhouse and in a more secluded spot, away from the main body of the restaurant. I say godsend because the Christmas party tables that came in later were horrendous. They were loud and brash and generally vulgar. Not exactly the clientele that you'd expect in this type of fine dining establishment. "Fur coat and nae knickers" as my old grandmother would say! Anyway since we got away from all that, our table was pretty much perfect for our occasion. Food was fantastic, wine was beautiful and the service was great, without being too much. We opted for the tasting menu with the wine flight and really enjoyed the informative descriptions of the wines and why they had been chosen to go alongside each course. Our sommelier was knowledgeable not only about the wines, but the food also and was very passionate about his subjects! Would highly recommend this restaurant as a beautiful dining experience.
We were a group of seven celebrating a birthday and the experience delivered from all at Rocca from start to finish was outstanding and we are all talking about our next visit.
The food and menu choices was exceptional, the waiters were sleek, professional, knew every aspect of the menus and all were very attentive and couldn't be more helpful in anyway, overall a fabulous night.
We all would go back tomorrow and would not hesitate to recommend Rocca to anyone.
Well done to all at Rocca and the R Bar, thank you.
i was expecting good things from the reputation and good reviews.arrived at 7:30 pm for dinner which had been reserved,no staff in the restaurant nor other diners;went to the bar to get a member of staff.restaurant not at all busy that evening, only 2 other tables, lacked atmosphere.staff attentive once we arrived.meal was fine, but not that good, overpriced for what was served.tried wine recommended by waiter was i think overpriced too, overall i was disappointed.
We had a memorable evening overlooking the 18th fairway at St Andrews and a grandstand seat for the evening fireworks display; memorable indeed. Thank you Liam, Sue and the excellent cocktail barman (apologies forgot his name, but not his Perfect Manhattan) you all played your part, well done.
Service was slow for both food and drinks. Fish dishes were overpowered by sauces. Didnt bother with dessert.
We come here once a year during our vacation as a special treat. Service is top notch - they don't miss a beat. Food was exceptional except for the Caesar salad which was OK. Beautiful room with a spectacular view of the Old Course and clubhouse. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you Daniel and Christopher for a wonderful evening!
Found this gem on our last visit to St Andrews. Took my wife's mother for her 83rd birthday. Requested a table at the window overlooking the 18th green for her. Spectacular view accompanied fabulous food! Scottish Beef Fillet with the clever chef's twist and very rich Turbot were excellent. Service is efficient and professional but not over-bearing. Would absolutely recommend to my foodie friends. Maitresse d' is classically scottish - matter of fact but warm if you engage. Don't miss the Chocolate Ganache and Souffle deserts.
Iconic views from the restaurant but bit disappointed overall with the experience which was a treat for my birthday, my side dishes arrived 5 minutes after my perfectly cooked steak and were by then quite cool, then after we had finished our meal my partner had to go and find the staff to remind then about my after dinner drink that had been ordered 20 minutes previously. My partner however had no complaints about the food just felt the service was a bit poor on the night. However my daughter has been to the restaurant and really enjoyed it. Such a pity as I had been so looking forward to it.
The atmosphere and view of Rocca are splendid. The food was divine and the wine recommendation was perfect. All this made up for the disappointing seating arrangement. I booked my table one month prior and when I arrived I was told I had the best table in the house to view the 18th green. However, the corporate party that booked their table 24 hours prior got to hang out 45 minutes later because of the playoff so we were forced to take a table on the other side of the restaurant. This was our last day in St. Andrews and I booked it for the view. Shame on Rocca for allowing corporate power to impinge on the little guy.
Everything from food to service was excellent!. Would recommend highly
We came to Rocca to celebrate end of term with our son and his friend. The room was attractive and the view of the golf course was beautiful. I mentioned in advance I was gluten free and was directed by the staff my dining options. I ordered the scallop appetizer and I must repeat this is a single scallop appetizer with a few Granny Smith slices and a pansy flower for garnish. Pretty plating but Meager portion! The other 3 guests had the pasta ragu which was tasty and much larger portion. 3 of us had the beef fillet for dinner with mashed potatos and bone marrow and a vegetable. The beef was a very small portion and the potatoes were about the size of of a single tablespoon. My husband had the lamb entree with 2 minute lamb chops about 1.5 inches each in diameter and one was grizzly. None of us felt full and I actually left the restaurant and ordered a Thai red curry dinner to eat to fill me up. The rest of our guests filled up on ice cream at Janettas. We would in no way spend more money on dessert. The service was slow and our entrees were delivered at different times. Our waiter was aggressive and officious. We were never asked if we enjoyed our meal and it took 25 minutes to get and pay our bill. 330 pounds not well spent. We frequent Michelin star restaurants worldwide and are used to paying for quality and we will not return to this restaurant
the food was genuinely very flavoursome and varied and exquisitely prepared.
the waiting staff were not enjoying their job and we were ignored for 10 mins after arriving before someone came to take a drinks order...which they then got wrong. There seemed to be a lack of organisation with all staff doing a bit of this and a bit of that with no one taking charge of the service and keeping an eye out to ensuring smooth service at all tables for these prices. We did repeatedly notice that waiting staff would come out of the kitchen with 2 plates and immediately have to go back into the kitchen for some reason as if they didn't know where they were going etc. They all seemed pretty stressed and unhappy at their work and some of them have somewhat uncomfortable / over familiar or awkward social skills. Better restaurants would know who was having the fish dish rather than arriving to say "who's having fish?" Our table was short of wine glasses at first and our white wine glasses were removed before the bottle was finished.
The ambience was pleasant though and the food is really very good indeed. If the staff were better trained and supervised this could be one of Scotland's best restaurants, but it is not that yet despite the obviously very able chef.
We spent a weekend in St Andrews and were delighted to be able to book a table in this esteemed restaurant, post Masterchef. We were not disappointed, and whilst the portions are definitely of the fine dining size, the food is simply stunning and every mouthful was a revelation! We will definitely be back!
Came here to try Jamie's Professional Masterchef-winning menu. It was excellent. Beautiful situation overlooking the Old Course of St Andrews and out towards the beach. Started with a selection of home made breads whilst we waited for the starter. The starter of Abroath Smokie Veloute with crab was excellent. The main of sirloin and short rib beef gave an insight into different cooking processes. Finally the dessert of lemon meringue was amazing and although the basil sorbet didnt do it for me - it was still full of flavour and delicous - just not with lemon meringue!
made very welcome, felt pampered, nice atmosphere, for those who have not been before it would be helpful to be made aware of alternative menu.. Didn't notice any disabled access to the front of the building.
I booked Rocca as a special treat for my son 13 who is already a keen chef and masterchef fan. We were not disappointed. After the initial surprise of having a child, albeit a very sophisticated one, the waiting staff were exceptional, incredibly helpful and accommodating. We had the masterchef tasting menu which was fabulous and a real treat. As a coeliac I can say that staff took every care to ensure I was ok and the rhubarb soufflé was out of this world. Thanks to Jamie for being so kind as to have a photo taken with my son and Sven. Overall a very special night.
Had a wonderful dinner at Rocca. Good selection on the menu but decided on the tasting menu. This was a fantastic experience with each course being as perfect as the next. No tiny portions and by the end we could not eat another morsel.
Thoroughly recommend this restaurant to others especially as the staff service matched the quality of the food which made the whole experience very special indeed.
My partner and I visited on February 13th for our Valentines date night and really pushed the boat out with the 5 course Taster menu. It features the dishes from the Masterchef final, plus a couple of others and it makes it easy to understand why Jamie won.
While the cost ensures we'll only be back for very special occasions, the quality and location will no doubt ensure our return in the future.
I recently visited St Andrews for the first time and my wife and I booked a table at The Rocca Grill Restaurant. It was an excellent meal and experience and the food was tyne real winner. I am 47 years of age and my main of rib steak was the best I have ever had!! Staff very friendly and not over the top, all in all it was a real pleasure and I am looking forward to making another booking this year, Thanks very much, Derek and Wendy.
My partner and had lunch on Saturday, it was truly excellent on all levels. The chicken starter was awesome, the sirloin steak tasted sensational and the chocolate desert was just delicious. Thoroughly recommended and will be back for another taste sensation ....yummy
Went for lunch as Masterchef winner works here and were not disappointed. They have a set menu which includes all of the dishes that won the final, and all for £25! Well worth a visit.
Took my Husband as a treat, He loved it as I did. Will Def go back.
Enjoyed an amazing meal cooked by the latest Masterchef Winner "Jamie"
He came out to restaurant to speak to several diners which was a nice touch.
From when we arrived until we left the service was outstanding.
Started with Venison Ragu Parpadelle which reminded me of the Wild boar Ragu we had enjoyed in Florence in June 2014.
My wife chose rib of Orkney Beef, the waiter suggested Perthshire Hare, what a great choice the loin wrapped in ham was delicious but the sauce was something else so much flavour I was going to ask for bread to soak up what was left of the sauce but my wife advised me this was not the done thing in this sort of restaurant and then proceeded to kick me under the table when I tried to lick my plate.
Had soufflé to finish off again outstanding, can't wait to go back
If you enjoy good food then you won't be disappointed by a visit to Rocca
Had a brilliant experience at Rocca. Food was even better than expected, service was 1st class and the view out the window wasn't bad either! Will definitely pay another visit.
1st class +++++ food, excellent and very friendly service; comfortable
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner and the atmosphere was special as was the service. Our view from the window was the 18th hole and the R&A. The food and hospitality of staff was top shelf. They were accommodating to ensure needs were met. Looking forward to our return.
Sadly, my wife and I were extremely disappointed in our dining experience at Rocca Grill. Incredible view overlooking the 18th Green at the St Andrews Old Course, but the service at the table was the worst we had experienced in all of Scotland. Absolutely would NOT recommend the restaurant for anyone looking for fine dining.
We made last minute dinner reservations and were very pleased with the food, service and location! Would highly recommend!!
As we had stayed at this Hotel in the past. We decided it was perfect for a special occasion.
Restaurant view is exceptional if at window table as we were. With service second to none wherever seated.
Food outstanding as always. No fault with any course.
We are in St Andrews every year so will be returning to Rocca Grill on our next visit.
From the moment we arrived we were well looked after and the service throughout the evening was awesome.
The menu wasn't extensive but the choices we made were all delicious & extremely well presented.
Would highly recommend!
Great! Esperienze, Food and view on the 18 hole are super!! Very good service! Quite good wine list! We 'll definitely l come back again!
