Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille
Rod's Steak & Seafood Grille, an area landmark and winner of New Jersey Monthly's 'Best Steakhouse' award, offers lunch and dinner daily as well as the finest Sunday Brunch in New Jersey.
The restaurant's new design, rich wood paneling and highly polished brass, lends a classic elegance to the sophisticated atmosphere. For an intimate and unique experience, dinner aboard the private Parlour Cars is sure to be remembered. Formerly the private domain of the rich and famous, these beautifully refurbished, turn of the century railway cars are exquisitely complimented by the haute cuisine of Rod's esteemed Executive Chef.
We went for my boyfriends 25th birthday. It’s a beautiful place. Very old fashioned and charming. The food was great. The service is amazing. They even did a special plate for dessert for my boyfriends birthday. Hands down worth all the money. We will definitely be coming back.
It was a great anniversary dinner with my family! The staff was nice and did a great job and the food was delicious!
Thank you for making our special birthday party special. Wonderful evening great service.
Topnotch. The filet mignon was superb
Three of us went for a birthday lunch. We had a very nice time. I would say the food was very good except the crab cake was not served hot and should have be served at the same time as the other two meals. The deserts we ordered came with scoop of ice cream but not the proper flavor on the dessert ordered so they took it back to kitchen. They did surprise use with a nice cake for the event which they let us take home since we ordered our desserts already. Over all it was a good experience.
Great place for lunch. Good food, good drinks and you can even hear the conversation. One of our favorite places.
We love eveything about Rod's! Perfect place to meet for lunch or special occasions. The food is quality as is the service, bar, etc. The ambience very warm and comfortable. I was somewhat disappointed the last time I was there with the steak sandwich that I ordered, It was shredded overcooked beef on a large bun with melted mozzarella cheese, and was very dry. I ate only the insides of one half. It just wasn't the best choice on the menu. The apple and pear crisp needed to be cooked longer and preferably chopped because the fruit was still hard . Other than that, I still love Rod's and will make a different choice next time. Soups and salads are delicious.
Overall great dinner. Food was terrific! Wait staff needs some attention. Mixed up drink orders / poor beer pours, including the wrong glass for a Tripel.
Prime Rib amazing. Pork chop very good. Large sides. Nice environment for family catch up.
This is a swanky type of place, always good food. One screw up was that we ordered the side special of corn with an au gratin sauce but we got the potatoes au gratin instead. They did take the potatoes back but the correct order of corn came when we were done with meal. We did take it home, however. When the bill came they hadn't removed the potatoes au gratin from the bill so we had to wait to get our server's attention (not an easy task) to correct the bill. All in all, a great meal with just a minor hiccup.
As usual, impeccable service and food! A very satisfied repeat customer.
Very odd experience, we had reservations for 2, waitress kept us waiting as us waiting as she thought we were 5 told her we were just two, then she put down four menus and disappeared. I flagged her down and stated we are just two can we order, then it hot a little better, appetizer was very good, salad was good, but no one ever removed plates etc which was odd as there were a lot of staff just standing around but after every course I had to slide my plate over and ask someone to take it while they were leaning against the wall. main course was not great. Lobster was not cooked properly, prime rib tasted as if it was boiled in water and had no flavor at all. Very disappointing when considering cost and value. The place is nice, but appears to not be managed appropriately.
Very disappointed. Took the family for our anniversary, kids received two different menus, when told we wanted something from one of the we were told that was the wrong one, my daughter order the kids pasta, it was over cooked and mushy, she did not eat it. My wife orders a medium steak received it rare, sent it back and was give an over cooked steak. I spoke with a manager on the way out and asked him to be aware so this does not happen in the future to other diners.
Rod's has the best ambience for a variety of occasions. I was there with an old friend I hadn't seen in years and sitting in the old train car was perfect! You really feel like you've stepped back in time, and the staff did not seem to mind that we were going to be there a while. There is also a busier side of the restaurant that is not quite as intimate as well as a bar with some live jazz. We loved it!
Magical. Like being welcomed by good friends.
The dinners were outstanding, one of the best stakes I have ever had. My wife loved her seafood. The surprise birthday cake was great as were the lemon drop martini and Irish coffee. It will be a little while before we return, it was a 3 hour drive to the Madison, but my wife would like to come back for her birthday, so it looks like we will see you again in about 6 months! thanks!
We had a great dinner and brunch the following day. Stayed at the hotel and look forward to visiting again.
All in all everything was excellent! Service, ambiance were top notch! Food was delicious so our only "beef" lol, was the size of each of the steak options. I usually go for a 6 or 8 oz myself when ordering a steak which usually is big enough for the average woman I would think. The guys in our party ordered the Delmonico and porterhouse, they finished but did say a smaller portion would have been fine! We might have had room for dessert!!! Lol.
Food was great. Service acceptable. Great decor.A bit pricey but worth it.
Best steak ever!! It was a little pricey but in general the food was worth it.
It is always wonderful! I look forwArd to all our Monday lunches here
Always great for a Sunday Brunch! Staff very good and attentive.
Rod's never disappoints. Lunch, dinner and brunch are all top notch!
My friends were disappointed that we were 'assigned ' a table upstairs especially since I had made a reservation well in advance. So, we were taken to the bar area instead where a 70th birthday party was being held so as far as noise level... Party level!
The good was plentiful and service was fine
We thought we would get better service, more ambience, more for our money. It was a very casual , noisy and bright atmosphere, not at all what we were expecting after checking restaurant online! Although my scallops were very good I don’t think the entree overall was worth the price, servers seemed extremely busy & therefore not giving their full attention. We were looking for a romantic night out , it was a disappointing experience!
My meal had to be returned twice
The manager kindly removed from bill but unfortunately the dining experience was ruined by that time
They offered an after dinner drink which we declined because we had a bottle of wine earlier, we ordered coffee and we
were charged for that
I made my reservation for my wife and I on OpenTable and indicated that I wanted a table off the main floor since it was to celebrate our 25th anniversary. In keeping with my wishes, the staff seated us in a booth off to the side, so we wouldn't be in the middle of the dining room. Jerry, the Maître D’, and our server Babette were absolutely wonderful, and incredibly attentive without being disruptive at all. Noticing that I ordered a glass of Blanton's bourbon, which they were temporarily out of, Jerry came over to offer his apologies and to discuss their other offerings as well since he too is a fan of bourbons. The night culminated with a surprise anniversary cake and two glasses of champagne. Needless to say the night was perfect and I made a point to tip like a canoe.
While it is definitely not an inexpensive night out, Rod's never disappoints and will keep you coming back.
Consistently excellent in all respects!
We’ve eaten here a few times and Rod’s never seems to disappoint. From the food to the friendly staff I have nothing but great things to say. We arrived a little early so we decided to sit down at the bar for a drink. Ryan the bartender was so kind and makes great drinks. We then moved to a table and were seated by the manger, Sean. He is always so friendly when we see him and makes guests feel as though they’re special. I can’t remeber the last time I went to a restaurant where the manager came to check on us to make sure we were enjoying our food. Such a nice touch that every restaurant manager should do. It was my friend’s birthday and she was really surprised by the cake that was served at the end of our dinner. Another fabulous night at Rod’s!
Celebrating a life milestone
All good nothing to add
The meal and service was outstanding not to mention the surprise Anniversary cake at the end
No cheep, but totally worth it for a special occasion. Everything was perfect. And so delicious!
Another great dinner at Rod's. Their steaks are delicious and always cooked perfectly. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. All good.
Rod's is always a special occasion with excellent food and service. We celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary.
I added that it was a Birthday when I made the reservation. I said nothing at the restaurant but they brought a small adorable 3 layer vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cake with fresh fruit and a candle! Such a nice surprise!! Definitely will return!
This is the 2nd time recently that I have dined at Rod's for dinner. Again, it was very, very good. The atmosphere is delightful with the stained glass ceiling. Their menu (heavily meat oriented) includes some just tremendous cuts of steak. The service has improved from past years, and everything about the meal was excellent!
Food and service is excellent. The specialty coffees are delicious too.
We were seated on the upper level and found our table well prepared, in an area which gave a great view of an area of Rod's I have never seen before. The personal attention of the wait staff was outstanding. The meal choices were excellent and made it hard to make a choice. My wife had salmon and I had the filet. We both found the meal to be as good or better than we had had elsewhere.
Bourbon Old Fashions, my wife's choice, were excellent and helped the conversation along. We shared the apple pear tart with ice cream for dessert, thinking we would never finish it, but we did.
An excellent meal, we will be back.
All good. Wait staff very attentive and food excellent
