Roka Canary Wharf
the name ROKA carries great meaning - ROKA is a meeting place where food and drinks are shared with friends (ro) and heat, warmth and an all-embracing energy surround (ka). the principle cuisine is from the robata grill, which originates from the fishermen of the northern coastal waters off japan, who would cook the fish on the boats with different charcoals and share the bounty with one another using their oars.
the robata grill itself is located amid diners and forms an integral design element of all the restaurants. not just a feature, the robata is more the beating heart of ROKA, the area from which all energy flows. an energy that offers warmth and enjoyment while guests admire the respect given to the food as each dish is prepared.
ROKA charlotte street opened in 2004, ROKA canary wharf in 2009, ROKA mayfair in february 2014 and ROKA aldwych in october 2014.
Roka Canary Wharf is always a great experience. We usually choose their seasonal meny and have never been disappointed. Furthermore, the selection of wine is very good.
I’ve been to Roka many times before the service has always been good but this time I booked for dinner for my sister’s birthday and had a reservation for 6.30. We see on the menu that it was happy hour on cocktails but had to order at the bar so we ordered a round of drinks and brought it over to our table. When we went up to get another round in the waiters refused it as we had to drink it at the bar and was told we couldn’t bring it back to our table.
During dinner one of the waiters was clearing up some plates and spilt food over my sister’s bag so they offered us a round of drinks for free
My sister had to leave early so I asked the waiter to bring out a dessert plate out ASAP so we could sing happy birthday to her but they didn’t bring it out on time and she had left by the time they brought it out.
Great food, good service. A bit pricey though.
Too noisy, but good food
Roka brunch on Sundays is just the best! I’ve been going there for years and always enjoy the service, food and atmosphere. My favourite place to be at the weekend when I’m in London.
Amazing food , great staff will definitely be back again , black cod dumplings are to die for
Service not as good as the last times I have been which is a shame. Were told they needed the table back before the allocated time we were given and kept having to ask for refills of drinks.
Delicious food,lovely ambiance .
We went to the Sunday Brunch at Roka for my son's 10th birthday treat. The food was fantastic, the service was very attentive and I was thrilled to see both my children trying new foods. The buffet would have been more than sufficient but the main courses were delicious too. The crowning glory was the chocolate iced leaf wishing my son a happy birthday!
The server made quite a few mistakes taking the orders. The lady who is in charge of the cloak room didn't show a single hint of welcoming.
Lovely afternoon lunch with friends.
Food was excellent, the ribs & chicken dumplings were delicious.
Service was good, even though the restaurant was extremely busy.
Slightly let down at the end, was rushed off the table before our time was up because the next booking had arrived,
The food we were able to eat tasted well, cocktails were also good. However one of the guests in my party had a shellfish allergy and instead of offering to cook their meal in a way to avoid cross contamination it was made clear that they were unwilling to accommodate and instead identified about half the items on the menu which should not be ordered. I have been to much smaller restaurants who have dealt with this by cooking the meal separately, took a little longer but it showed they really cared about their customer. Very disappointing that such a 'high profile' restaurant showed such lack of care for their customer. Doubt I will be visiting this restaurant again.
Confusion with service
Dated interior but the food was good albeit overpriced
Fabulous Japanese food in a swanky environment but it is expensive - approximately £80 per head.
Lovely staff, all very friendly and approachable. The food tasted fresh and I’d return to try more things on the menu. The only negative is the noise, it’s extremely loud which makes it difficult to have a conversation unless you raise your voice which can feel a bit uncomfortable
Overall one of the waiters was a bit rude when I asked him for the bill. He got a bit frustrated since he wasn't our waiter and covering a different area, his attitude was very poor and overall rude.
With not a great deal of exposure to Japanese cuisine I went to Roka with high expectations only to be disappointed. Food was good but not outstanding and didn’t match the prices, which were high. The service was not very good.
The perfect setting , chose the premium set menu. For that price should’ve paired some wine . Staff were very helpful , food was divine but a little expensive that what was expected
Good quality food and nicely presented. A bit pricy though
Service was impeccable but the food was not as good as it promised. The lunch menu is a better deal compared to if you are ordering from the a la carte.
Sunday brunch is great value for the calibre and variety of food. Would absolutely recommend and visit again.
Perfect lunch as usual.
Food is delicious ! Lots of selection of fish ,steak, veggies. The sliced steak is incredible, as are the ribs. Staff were far too attentive, keeping asking if we wanted more drink every 5 mins - back off ! Ambience is a bit crazy, full of folks ready to go clubbing so the attire is questionable for a nice restaurant meal.
The atmosphere is dreadful not high end at all really tacky place not like the Aldwych restaurant. The food is trying to be amazing but missing so many points the sushis and sashimi you can get better quality and price in other Japanese restaurants in London. If its for the robata that you are going there are also better options in the city at similar prices.
The staff is hit and miss, some nice other laud and with no notion of service. So overall not worth going!!
Always fantastic!!! I have done the brunch 6 times now and it is the best brunch in London. Food is always great, the service is on point and the atmosphere is good. There is no music (that i know of) or DJ but it is quite loud so there is a buzzy atmosphere! Can't wait to go again already!
Very good food and service! Really good experience!
Great food and service. Would recommend for any occasion. Suitable for a noce couples dinner or with friends
Can’t fault the food absolutely love it!
Service wasn’t great this time though. Was very busy and understaffed in our area.
Usually your glass is never empty at the brunch however on 3 or 4 occasions we had an empty glass and had to wait a while for a top up.
Amazing Restaurant, amazing food.
As expected the quality of food was very nice. A truffle dish was recommended which was nice but as it was served first, meant the other flavours for the rest of the meal were suppressed. We ordered warm saki, cold came so they gave it to us on the house. Otherwise, staff were very attentive. Great atmosphere in the restaurant
So much food! They serve both small dishes to your table and tons of dishes on the buffet to choose from! Unlimited wine.
Good place with great atmosphere but you will find that there are better sushi places around
Great meal prices can be expensive, lamb chops are very tasty but getting smaller.
excellent set menu at Roka Canary Wharf, more than we could eat so we took some away. It was getting very busy and a little noisy as the night went on but the food was amazing!
Really enjoyed my afternoon. Will 100% be returning. X
The food was amazing, the recommended wine was delicious and the overall experience awesome!
Delicious food and excellent service
