Great food and great value with the Bookatable deal but indifferent service which was not in keeping with the high level of culinary skill.
Although this restaurant has high-end food it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The restuarant was full, but it felt like the staff were attending only to us. The food was excellent as we expected from Steve Groves, past Masterchef winner. We will definitely return and encourage our friends to make a visit.
We had a lovely evening at Roux. The downstairs bar has a wonderful reading room / library setting and perfect for an aperitif. Upstairs there is space between the tables that allows you to have an intimate dinner in a wonderful room. Service and food were both superb. A real gem at the heart of Whitehall. We will definitely go back.
Fabulous food and first rate service. Excellent restaurant to visit!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We had a 5 course tasting menu with sparkling wine, which was just gorgeous. Would recommend to others and will return ourselves. The front of house staff were very attentive and well-informed about the dishes. Thanks to all staff in the kitchen and front of house, it was a lovely evening.
My wife and I visited London for our silver wedding anniversary, we chose Roux at Parliament square for our special meal, we were not dissapointed.
From walking through the front door the service was exemplary, we were shown to our table by the window, here we found a card wishing us a happy anniversary, signed by all the staff, a nice touch.
The menu was limited, just the opposite to the extensive wine list, I was particularly impressed with the wine waitress, I asked for some recommendations and with prices ranging from £40 to £5k it was refreshing that all the recommendations were sub £60, we picked a wine that was as good as it had been described. The food we ordered looked fantastic and tasted better, the waiting staff described everything, my only criticism would be this was a little fast and we missed a lot of what they said.
When we requested the bill we realised why the menu was limited, we were on a special offer menu (this was not requested) most refreshingly for a restaurant in London there was no service charge, it was nice to leave a tip of our choice based on the excellent service received.
Table for 2 on a Thursday night with the seasonal 5-course tasting menu and glass of sparking wine offer. The room is smart (we thought from the decor and soft music, a little 80s, despite opening in 2010, although this necessarily isn't a criticism!) and we got a nice size table with plenty of space from other diners. The service, from a variety of staff, was excellent all night. The food throughout was delicious, rich and full of taste (the pork cheek with carrot and black pudding and the aged duck were both particularly good). They switched one of the desserts for us as neither of us like banana. Portions are small but with amuse bouche, petits fours, fresh sourdough bread as well as the five courses you are definitely satisfied. A small cheese course costs £10 extra each. The red wines by the glass were excellent. Overall a very good experience, not cheap exactly, but we felt value for money given the quality of the food, drink and service.
We had a lovey pre theatre meal and definitely will return again.
Slightly disappointed that having booked a table for 18.00 to learn that the table was in the bar and not in the main restaurant. The Open Table app did not make me aware of this. The restaurant opened at 18.30 and was full. Otherwise the food was very good and actually good value for money (based on the bar menu). Drinks were very expensive, but probably what was to be expected in such a place.
Food was good. They forgot about me sitting up stairs. Had to ask for a drinks menu when my entree was served, 20min after I sat down. Had to walk around to find the bathrooms.
Went down stairs to collect my coat, but the reception person just walked away. I waited a few minutes thinking he was getting my coat. No I had to walk into the restaurant to get his attention to ask for my coat.
He walked out the front door, thinking he was going to hold open the door, but no he let it close, then stood in the front door way and I had to ask him to move. He did say thank you & good bye. Guess that was nice. Food was good, service needs more attention.
Excellent innovative food and fabulous service. We've been here a few times before and it's always outstanding.
Had the 5 course tasting menu and wine pairing. Beautifully presented and well explained dishes and wine.
Excellent food, great service, extensive quality wine list. Expensive, but worth it for a special treat.
Food was good and service was very good.
Halibut was only ok - perhaps this was the fish itself rather than the way it was cooked?
I usually love halibut but this fish wasn't exceptional.
Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!
Went for dinner and the food was delicious.
Service was very nice and welcoming too. We will be back for sure!
Went with my daughter for my birthday. Was the most amazing experience! The food was exceptional and so was the service. So reasonably priced compared to other Michelin star restaurants I've been to. I will be back. Very soon!
Lovely dining room elegant and contemporary. Staff all most helpful and efficient. Tasting menu varied and beautifully presented. A very good anniversary meal.
Absolutely outstanding food. We had the dinner 5 course menu for £55. The pork cheek was tender, halibut very tasty and dessert (chocolate, caramel and banana combo) was devine. Grest value for money and service was tentative (it was a special occasion meal for us). Makes us want to go back straight away!
Great overall experience
Really delicious food and excellent wine recommendation
Will definitely be back
The staff were very attentive but we had difficulty with understanding them when describing food etc as their accents made their english unclear at times. I also advised them of an allergy when booking and at the table but two items served contained an ingredient I had spoken of, although in small amounts. Having said that the food was very good and the staff most helpful. This was our second visit and we will no doubt return again one day.
Tolles Essen mit unbedingt empfehlenswerter Weinbegleitung. Unser Lieblingslokal in London für besondere Abende. Jedes mal wieder herausragend!
My friend and I had lunch at Roux at Parliament square. We had the 5 course tasting menu which worked out as really good value. The sparkling wine and canapes to start were a lovely gesture. As our waitress served each beautifully presented course she gave a detailed but unfortunately a hurried explanation of what we were about to taste.
The food itself was very tasty, the meat was melt in the mouth tender and well seasoned. In part, for me certain accompaniments were a little bit salty but not for my friend -although she did remark later that she had to drink a lot of water once she got home!
The desserts were delicious and a good size for a tasting menu! The wine - the Roux recommendation was perfect, light and easy to drink. The cheese trolley looked inviting though we didn't sample any of the cheeses.
Lunch at Roux was a treat for my friends birthday so it was such a wonderful surprise when she was presented with an extra dessert with 'Happy Birthday' beautifully written in chocolate on the plate. To finish we were given a mini muffin and a piece of fudge each.
Absolutely delightful. We were very well looked after.
My only disappointment/confusion was to do with the rest rooms.. 1 for men and women to share, 1 for men only and 1 disabled....... Do women not deserve their own facilities?
We had an amazing time at Roux. I would thoroughly recommend it for any occasion
Had a simply excellent evening with the tasting menu and wine pairing being superb. Thank you
The dishes were wonderful. I'm not sure of everything that I ate but it was extremely tasty. I loved the edible flowers on some dishes. The service was outstanding. It was a lovely restaurant in a beautiful neighborhood. The dishes were some of the best I've eaten. Would love to come back soonn.
We had the most wonderful evening. Service was incredible, welcoming, informative, made us feel special.
Food was outstanding, best meal we have ever eaten. We sent compliments to the chef and were invited to meet him in the kitchen. Great experience, a lovely guy, had a great chat. Wonderful evening.
Special place to go, will go again.
This was the second time we ate from the tasting menu and did not disappoint. We were a party of two who visited for a Birthday. We requested one vegetarian menu and one with no cheese which we were accommodated and were also kindly given a chocolate desert with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate, a very nice touch. The décor had changed and was very pleasing. We did not feel rushed and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you we will be back.
Food was good and location excellent. Service was not up to standard. We were kept waiting too long to be taken to the table, getting the waitresses attention was not easy, there was a lack of smiles and they took forever to get coats at the end, got it wrong and no apologies.
We have had lunch here on a number of occasions and it has always been excellent. We had the set lunch. I had pork cheeks with black pudding to start and my wife had crab. We both had lamb as the main course. Once again it was excellent as was the dessert.
Tables are set far enough apart for discreet conversation and the service was friendly and helpful without ever being intrusive.
We will return.
Second time here. Traveled from Dorset especially for my friends 60th Birthday treat and it didn’t disappoint!! Stunning food, delicious cocktails, friendly informative staff made us feel very special. Overall a delight.
We ate the 5 course tasting menu. The flavours were superb with subtle changes continuing after each mouthful. The only dish that I felt lacked balance was the Duck with Beetroot, it need something else to balance the very strong beetroot flavour.
Everything I expected of a top class restaurant. Great food and excellent staff who were very friendly, knowledgable and professional. Would highly recommend. This is the second Michel Roux restaurant we have been to in London and the third is in the diary for a few months time. Can’t wait.
Love the presentation and the taste of the seasonal ingredients. The Restaurant is located in a convenient place to get to by tube, buses and central to many other places of interest. Love the service and attention to detail, including the crumb-down too! The service staff have excellent good knowledge of the food and how they are cooked and presented. Well trained! The ambient is quiet and lovingly decorated. We dine in a unhurried manner and thoroughly enjoy our lunch and chat. Highly recommended.
A throughly enjoyable three hours tasting a variety of well cooked dishes in a great setting with warm and friendly staff who made it all worthwhile.
Comfortable seating, attentive staff, not noisy, great location, wine list good and of course the food was excellent.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed the food and wine. I wouldn't say it was the best food I've ever tasted but it was interesting and wonderfully presented. The duck course was to die for but the snacks at the beginning were average as was the dessert. It was my partner's birthday and they presented him with a lovely salted caramel tart which looked lovely and was a nice touch. We really enjoyed our night.
We went for my mum’s birthday, and couldn’t have had a better experience. The food was outstanding, staff polite and helpful, the whole lunch was just the perfect treat.
Excellent, food, wine and value.
This is probably our favourite place for a special occasion. It’s a fine dining restaurant with an amazing tasting menu and wine list. Great service combines with the great food to make for a really special experience.
