My first question is "Why on earth has this restaurant not got multiple Michelin stars"?
This is the third time that I have eaten at R.A.P.S. and yet again I was blown away by Steve Groves' outstanding menu.
My wife and I opted for the full tasting menu which (including a generous selection of canapes) comprised nine courses. The waiting staff ensured that any ingredients that we were not particularly fond of were replaced with alternatives without compromising the balance of the dish.
I don't have the space to review every dish, but highlights included the prawn, compressed apple and fermented chilli appetizer; an earthy, silky smooth parmesan and truffle risotto (generously topped with shaved truffle), a veal sweetbread dish that simply rocked and a plum pastry desert with jasmine cream which I absolutely loved.
We were then treated to an extra desert because it was a special occasion, which shows just how much they care about their customers. Strawberry, white chocolate and a basil sorbet. The sorbet alone is worth a star in my view.
At £89 per head the value is outstanding. We had a bottle of Sancerre which was not outrageously priced. Sadly I had to drive afterwards otherwise I'd certainly have taken up the wine pairing option which was very competitively priced.
The dining room is quite formal and serious, but I like that. If I wanted "hustle and bustle" I'd go to McDonald's!
Finally the front of house staff were fabulous. The Roux ethic is very obvious. Chatty if you want them to be or reserved if that's your bag. If you've never experienced fine dining then please give it a go. And do talk to the staff... they really are knowledgeable about every aspect of the restaurant.
Overall, I'd say "Keep it up, that star can't be long in coming".
The decor is very atmospheric. The amuse bouche was superbly executed. My companion had the lamb and I had the Halibut and both were superb. The staff overheard her toasting my birthday and they brought us a plate of sweet delicacies which was a lovely touch.
Lovely food, nicely priced. Great service. The birthday treat at the end of the meal was a lovely touch.
The refurbishment has paid off handsomely. Elegant surroundings, discreet but charming and effective staff and a chef who really knows what he is doing. For a business lunch in an atmosphere to suit it is excellent. Equally I have used it for dinner with friends with equal success
Loved this place amazing food and service couldn’t recommend highly enough
A lovely Monday night meal for two sweetbreads cooked to perfection followed by chicken and lamb dishes and finished off with a lemon tart all in all lovely setting great food and delicious wine
The best food I have ever eaten in my entire life and the decor is outstanding. Staff very obliging and very friendly.
Good food but service very slow and not befitting of a Roux establishment.
Absolutely delicious. From the amuse-bouches to the delightful extra anniversary dessert, it was all fabulous.
We had the tasting menu and can thoroughly recommend it. Wine is unnecessarily expensive but for a special occasion it was worth pushing the boat out.
The place is outstanding. Food is very good, but didn't surprise us much. It is along the lines of a very good chef, but perhaps I expect little more 'risk' in a pre-set menu (only two menus to choose from) as the complexity is less if you offer only tasting menu. Highly recomendable. The price is good given the unique atmosphere and quite place in the middle of London. Love it. Although I told them (same day, during the dinner) to bring a happy BD small cake with coupe candles or alike for my son's 18 anniversary, and despite they wrote it down, they just 'forgot'. That was bad and meant to me there were not fully focused in the service. there was only very few people at that time, so the couple reasons for not giving all 5 stars. I will go back again, of course. Thanks!
Really amazing food. Good service. Very innovative preparations. Loved it. Thank you.
Had a fantastic time, booked for my friends birthday. They went above and beyond. Will definitely return when next in London
Great food and great staff, it made our evening very memorable.
Excellent lunch, delicious food and lovely presentation. Very drinkable house red too.
Table by the window for my husband's birthday, surprise sharing dessert inscribed with a birthday message in chocolate as a nice touch. Service was discreet and efficient, perhaps a little fast - slightly longer break between courses would have been preferred. But overall, a lovely lunch, very happy to come again.
Comfortable and private surroundings great the entrance to the restaurant, just the start of an outstanding experience. The service was excellent and the the food a gastrnomic delight. Although rather more expensive than some restaurants, as a treat, it's exceptional. Would definitely return.
Excellent service and wonderful food. Mine was a lunchtime booking and despite initially asking for bar seating, I asked to move to the restaurant and wasn’t disappointed. Great experience.
This was a truly refined and special lunch menu, every course we selected was simply outstanding - as were the amuse bouche we were offered between. We continually raved to the staff about how excellent our experience was, we have no hesitation in recommending Roux and can’t wait to return.
A memorable and thoroughly enjoyable evening. Excellent food, drink and service in a remarkably calm environment.
Everything was outstanding, one of my new favourites. I’ll be returning.
Roux is quite possibly the finest dining experience I have been exposed to and made our Pearl wedding anniversary a truly memorable occasion.
This was the second time I visited this restaurant. I went back for a second special occasion because we had such exceptional food and service the first time around and we received the same - if not better - this time. The staff manage to deliver impeccable standards whilst making you feel completely comfortable. I really do feel like you get value for money with the food as it is incredible - not only in its appearance but especially in its taste. Every single thing you are served tastes amazing. Nothing is only on the plate for appearance sake. The little touches such as the little tasters and palate cleansers are beautiful, and to top it all off we had a spectacular extra dessert with a candle and a Happy Birthday message on it because it was my mum's birthday! So kind. I will definitely return for another special occasion when I am in London.
Four of us went to Roux at Parliament Square to celebrate our friends 70th birthday.
The ambience service and food were exceptional and the birthday cake ended an amazing meal.
Would definately go back for another special occasion
Had the light tasting menu: the savoury courses were divine, especially the halibut. (The sweet courses were lovely but we aren't sweet-tooth people). Beautiful surroundings and perfect service, charming without being fussy. Will come again. Have already treated friends to lunch here but next time will do dinner and stay overnight in town.
Thank you all for a delightful experience.
Excellent food and excellent service. We came for my mother-in-law's birthday and the staff went out of their way to make her feel special: giving her a card and free birthday treat at the end of the meal. They helped make it a super special occasion. Can definitely recommend it!!
My wife and I celebrated my retirement with dinner at Roux at Parliament Square. We had the Chef's Tasting Menu with paired wines. Every course was absolutely delicious - an explosion of flavours but never overpowering. The main course was lamb - I've never had it so tender and flavourful. Service was always attentive, yet never overly present, and everyone was very knowledgeable An excellent and memorable evening. We will be coming back.
Parliament Square in London will always be the center of the British Empire and any restaurant that stakes out a corner of that territory needs to be exceptional. Roux at Parliament Square fulfills that role to perfection. A very special place in a unique locale with superb food and attentive but unobtrusive service. Yes, you must expect to pay for the privilege but it's worth every shilling.
We had a wonderful meal, we chose the taster menu which was amazing. Thank you to the whole team who made my husband’s 50th Birthday meal very special by giving him a Birthday card and cake.
Wonderful food and great service combined with a nice ambiance. Highly recommended!
Wonderful food and excellent service. Wish we had time for the tasting menu. Will definitely go back next time in town.
A birthday celebration in a great restaurant, service was very good, nice separation of seating and a good wine selection. A very good experience.
We had an enjoyable evening, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Relaxed fine dining. We would book again. Every course we can remember from the tasting menu. Only gripe when we were seated in the bar area, we were not served very quickly. In the restaurant we were looked after extremely well.
An excellent meal. The food and the staff were superb.
We have dined here on on several occasions and has never failed impress, the food is awesome and the service is great, well worth a visit.
We had the most amazing evening celebrating my moms 70th. The food was absolutely divine and the staff went out of their way to make the evening the most memorable one for us all. Stunning and one of the most unforgettable evenings we have ever had. Very very special.
Excellent meal. We had the five course taster menu which included a glass of sparkling and was a reasonable price. The food was delicious and the wine just as good. Great friendly service from the staff. We were there to celebrate my husbands 40th Birthday and the staff thoughtfully gave a card and an extra desert with Happy birthday on the plate which added to the evening. Would go back again.
Roux at Parliament Square is a great location for lunch with someone who works in Parliament. But my goodness, it is eye-wateringly expensive. I chose to just have two starters but was charged the full set price for lunch. They did reduce it but it was still £28. Quality of the cooking is top notch and the service is impeccable. Very difficult to justify the prices.
Great food and great value with the Bookatable deal but indifferent service which was not in keeping with the high level of culinary skill.
Although this restaurant has high-end food it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The restuarant was full, but it felt like the staff were attending only to us. The food was excellent as we expected from Steve Groves, past Masterchef winner. We will definitely return and encourage our friends to make a visit.
We had a lovely evening at Roux. The downstairs bar has a wonderful reading room / library setting and perfect for an aperitif. Upstairs there is space between the tables that allows you to have an intimate dinner in a wonderful room. Service and food were both superb. A real gem at the heart of Whitehall. We will definitely go back.
Fabulous food and first rate service. Excellent restaurant to visit!
