Mile End
About the restaurant
Chef/owner Marc Cohen cooks solo in this Michelin Recommended 24-seat restaurant in the heart of Montreal's coolest neighbourhood, the Mile End. The ever evolving tasting menu is defined by the seasons and aims to showcase the best ingredients Quebec has to offer, while supporting small farms and sustainable agriculture.

The cooking is precise but unpretentious, eschewing elaborate plating in favour of bold flavours. Marc practices whole animal butchery in conjunction with Lawrence's own butcher shop a few doors over, and bread, charcuterie and preserves are all home made. The extensive wine list is devoted to the work of small natural wine producers whose practices promote soil health and diversity and who's wines reflect both terroir and tradition.

The dining room is warm, intimate and quiet enough to have an actual conversation. Lawrence can accommodate large groups.

LAWRENCE IS OPEN FOR DINNER FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY

Food was excellent, service too. Beautiful 10 course tasting menu. Fresh seasonal ingredients. Creative and delicious. On the other hand I didn’t really like 2 of the wines that were selected for the wine pairing. 4 of the 6 were ok (just a matter personal taste. I’m not huge on orange wine and 3 of them were orange) and two I didn’t even drink. 1 was undrinkable for me and the other just not very enjoyable (for me). I would definitely love to go back. Food was outstanding. Next time, I personally would opt to select my own wine.

I work both as a wine and food journalist and a wine merchant. This was one of best meals I’ve ever enjoyed. The wine list is great, with inventive glass pours to accompany our courses. If you browse their menu and think it looks a little odd or whimsical, put those concerns aside. This spot is delivering seriously great food. Service was pretty much perfect, relaxed, informative and there when needed (thanks Ray). Highly recommend!

The ambiance is palpable as you walk into the wide, welcoming front door. We sat bar side and had a delicious meal for the ages. Cocktails are fresh and interesting. And sitting at the bar provides a homier perspective; chatting with the servers as they make your drinks, discuss the menu and the history of the place. Co-owner Elena is always present, keeping things moving and maintaining a good beat. Meals change regularly so not much need to review the specifics. Just to say the preparation of the dishes with their colourful and delicious assemblies of tastes and textures indicates plenty of forethought and a heavy dose of creativity. Make it a point to visit.

Outremont
About the restaurant
Best Mexican Restaurant Outside of Mexico (Culinaria Mexicana 2025)
#43 The 50 Best (North America)
#24 Canada's Top 100

Located off the beaten path in the heart of Outremont, Alma is an intimate 20-seat restaurant showcasing modern Mexican cuisine with authentic techniques and flavours combined with local QC ingredients. It is operated Chef Juan Lopez Luna et sommelier/importer Lindsay Brennan. Alma offers a tasting menu experience inspired by the concept of "mar y montana", influenced by Juan's childhood memories of central Mexico, and time spent in Oaxaca. Lopez is one of the few chefs in Canada working with heritage corn from Mexico, grinding fresh masa each morning. The tortillas are made by hand with his grandmother's tortilla press.

The wine list highlights sun-kissed Catalan wines from a group of winemaker-friends that Brennan imports directly to QC from Barcelona. Alma is the Canadian destination for Catalan wines - with a deep cellar of back vintages.
