About Sabai Thai Gastrobar
The Thai word ‘Sabai’ translates simply as ‘relaxed’, the perfect description of this Brighton gastrobar where the urban cool of London on Sea is matched to the ethnic charm of the Land of Smiles. Bringing a taste of Phuket’s beach bars and Bangkok’s most upmarket restaurants to the UK, Sabai is all about chilling out, South East Asian style – a fact which is patently clear from the silk floor cushions, cocktail menu and warm, smiling welcome. The deep red and dark wood, gold and green interior is as beautiful as Sabai’s freshly cooked, authentic food, MSG free and made using local ingredients where possible and imported Thai herbs and spices where essential. Because everything is made to order, special requests are welcomed.

Sabai Thai Gastrobar Ratings and Reviews
We had the Bangkok set meal and it was excellent. We also ordered pre-dinner drinks and my husband was disappointed to see that his gin and tonic was presented already mixed and so the gin was drowned. When he asked for a replacement the barman told him that it had the correct amount of tonic and he knew as he had has been to bar school! The drink was replaced but this attitude was disappointing hence the loss of 2 stars for service. Don't let it put you off going as the food is amazing but either have your G&T elsewhere or specify how you want it served.
I was very impressed with the food. We were a group of 6 eating quite late for a Tuesday evening, so that is why the ambience rating is low as we were the only people in the restaurant, although a group of 3 did turn up after us. Would definitely recommend the restaurant which was my son's recommendation as he has picked up orders from Sabai for Deliveroo.
Second time I have been here and just as brilliant as I remember from the first visit a year ago. Delicious food, by far the best out of Thailand that I have come across! Friendly service and accommodating even though we were half an hour late for our reservation!! (Greatly appreciated) Would recommend to everyone, particularly for the many vegan options available on the menu that don't fail on taste either. Superb. Can't wait to go again.
We chose this restaurant as we all enjoy Thai food, especially my husband, and it was his birthday. It was one of the few Thai restaurants in Brighton that was open during the day on a Sunday. We liked the intimate, authentic setting and found the staff to be very friendly. The food was delicious and good value, especially the set lunch menu. We would definitely return, and recommend this to anyone who enjoys Thai food.
Went to Sabai Thai on a Sunday evening to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We thought it would be just us in there, but when we arrived there was a really nice atmosphere with lots of tables full of people enjoying their evening! The lighting was lovely for our "date night" and we sat next to the waterfall feature which we thought was great. The food was amazing and tasted fresh with lots of clear flavours! Best green Thai curry I've ever tried so we will definitely be back!! Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble which made our evening perfect! Thank you again Sabai Thai, we absolutely loved it and can't rate you enough for a great evening!!
We visited Sabai Thai before attending a concert at the Brighton Dome, and were blown away by the authentic flavours, real heat in places, and wonderful service.
Too often, Thai food in the UK is bland and dumbed down- no such concerns here with fresh, flavoursome dishes with the occasional punch of chilli (but nothing too unpalatable).
Service was friendly and fast, without being obtrusive, and the bill was a very pleasant surprise as well! Will definitely be back.
Came here after recommending it to a friend based on Top Table reviews and after they loved it we decided to give it a go! Sabai Thai Gastrobar looks great, the service is brilliant and the food is amazing! Great selection on the menu, fabulous flavours and I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone!
I booked my partner and I a surprise nights stay in brighton and I wanted us to eat somewhere which was relaxed and serves great food, especially as he is a chef in London - I wanted him to be impressed by where I picked as he always picks great places.. Impressed was an understatement. The food was amazing! The best Thai we've both eaten by far, we shared a set southern Thail menu for 2 which was so delicious and shared a pad Thai which was again sooo yummy. We would easily eat there every week if we lived in Brighton and would recommend anyone go there! We were also completely shocked by the outstanding value for money, our meal with extras and beers came to £60! Oh and the service was great too!! Everyone should try this Hidden Gem!
It was the first time that myself and my partner had dined at the Sabai Thai Gastrobar and we loved every moment of it! We had the pleasure of dining at the low tables with the cushions and it was a very romantic atmosphere.
The staff were amazingly trained, friendly and very immaculate.
The menu was even better - with a wide arrange of food and cocktails (which all used brand-name spirits)
The presentation of the food was perfect and was definitely one of my new favourite all-time dining experiences I've had.
Last but not least, the value was amazing, we managed to get 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 cocktails, 1 big bottle of Thai beer and a coke - all for under £50!!!
Would definitely recommend to a friend definitely be dining here again!
Lovely meal, food was exceptional and brilliant value for the quality. Only negative was the original table we were given, they have a lovely cushion seated area that was empty but they gave us tiny table right by door, asked to move though and they did straight away.
my two friends and i went on sat 30th march to sabai thai and what a great experience it was, when we ariived we received a warm welcome and although it was busy and quite small there was a lovely atmosphere and we did not feel we were on top of the other diners.we ordered a lot thinking the portions would be small but they were very generous portions and indeed we could not eat it all,not because the food was poor far from it ,but there was more than we expected.the wine was delicious and a fair price.we would eat there again and will be soon.
I can find nothing to say apart from 'perfect''. Best thai i have eaten anywhere between London and Brighton. The restaurant isn't huge so the atmosphere is as good as the food. Something for everyone. First thursday of month is acoustic music. My 40 th birthday finished romantically and perfectly. Back soon! If you are visiting or live in Brighton and looking to eat somewhere 'nice', this is the place
I booked for myself and four friends on the afternoon of the Saturday before Xmas to arrive at 6.30 for a pre-theatre meal. The write-ups on trip advisor were very good - and they were correct! Although we were there for an early meal, the service by the man who served us was excellent, friendly, chatty but efficient. The food was fresh and delicious (with plenty of veggie and vegan options) and the restaurant has a lovely ambience about it - cosy, but modern and warm. We all had a lovely meal and I can't recommend this lovely gem of a restaurant highly enough - ooh, and we got a 20% off card for our next meal - Even though the bill was only £17 each for 2 courses and wine. A bargain anyway.
Fabulous food with a difference served in a small but atmospheric restaurant by charming staff. Even on a busy Saturday evening our table was ready on time at 9pm and we enjoyed our meal at our own pace. Including a bottle of house wine, the sharing platter starter and two mains, including the spectacular sea bass the bill was less than £60. Highly recomended by someone that can take or leave the standard Thai food offered up by most.
As a group of 10 we booked a lunch on a Saturday. The £7.95 for 2 courses was outstanding value and the food was great!! Very well looked after and kindly put us outside in the sun at our request with no hassle at all! Only small negative was the price of a large Singha!
We arrived early at Sabai Thai, and it was empty, but after beilng given a nice table and while I perused the menu and enjoyed my chili mojito, it began to fill up. The food was excellent, we shared fish cakes and a weeping tiger, then both had noodles for mains. The food had a great level of spice, and was well cooked. The service was quick and attentive, and the staff were friendly and polite. Woudl thoroughly recommend.
