One of THE BEST restaurants in Philadelphia. Impeccable service, fantastic food, and great ambiance. There are many "Johnny-Come-Lately's" on the Philadelphia food scene. None comes close to the Saloon.
Besides Prices a bit high, I never have a bad night at the Saloon. Frankie makes THE Best Manhattans in the city. Richie is a prince. Food is always delicious and service is always professional.
My wife and I stayed at the Ritz and wanted to find an interesting place to have dinner. We arrived late in the evening and were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was very polite, professional and made our experience wonderful. The food was excellent and the ambience had a charm usually found in Manhattan establishments. We will return.
It was my husband’s birthday and I requested three times, when I made the reservation, when the restaurant called to confirm, and when I checked in, that they bring a birthday dessert over at the end of the meal. It was never done. This was very disappointing as I wanted to surprise my husband since we were there to celebrate his birthday. In addition, my pasta dish was bland which I was very surprised by as I had heard so many wonderful accolades about the restaurant. The clams casino on our appetizer platter were downright terrible. My husband did enjoy his lobster franciase but our waitress told him it was three pieces of lobster when he inquired about it, but when it came there were only two pieces of lobster. Again surprising for this type of restaurant. The jazz band that was playing was excellent and the bartenders upstairs were delightful and friendly. Would definitely go back to sit at the bar and enjoy some music but would not pay the high prices for mediocre food and service.
Used to be our go to restaurant for special occasions. Food was good, but not extraordinary like it used to be. Not worth the money anymore. Another example of the lowering of standards in the dining experience.

Our group of 4 all had a wonderful Thursday evening meal at the Saloon ! The food, atmosphere, service and experience was wonderful ! Can’t wait to go back ! Trus South Philadelphia institution !

Excellent food- steak ordered rare and cooked to perfection. In my opinion that says all you need to know about the quality in the kitchen. The ambiance was excellent and service was even better. Very nice people on staff there. Looking forward to going back.
The best Italian restaurant in the city..... unusual Gothic-like atmosphere, carefully prepared fresh food, live music upstairs, friendly staff from the car-park staff to the host to the barman to the server... an unforgettable night out..incomparable for the price.
The Saloon never disappoints!
This was the best dining experience I have had in many years. The ambiance was great, but we were seated next to a rowdy table of Flyers fans. But, we did not let that ruin our evening. The food was fantastic - crab bisque was the absolute best ever. Seafood and chicken meals were very good. The dessert products from the bakery down the street were also delicious. My wife and I were celebrating my birthday and the server (Gabby) went out of her way to make sure we were welcome and satisfied (including a birthday dessert on the house). I'll be back with no hesitation, although the word is out and they get very busy on Saturday nights.

Took my husband out for his birthday (noted on the reservation). Birthday was never acknowledged, experience seemed extremely rushed compared to neighboring tables, server never presented any specials. Compared to the waitress at the neighboring table our waiter was clueless. Was never offered any dessert options, asking for a cocktail/wine list seemed like a hassle. In the end, feeling forgotten is never nice, especially on a special day, and that’s how we felt. On the bright side, food was good.
The character of the Saloon was magnificent. Beautiful old decor with exceptional along with the service. Now the food...off the charts good! I never ate so much in one sitting. Delicious! As they said in Godfather; “get the veal. It’s the best in the city!”

The Saloon never disappoints! Steak was cooked to perfection and the moda sauce is such a delicious compliment to the filet. Can't wait to go back!

It was a great experience from the Valet who parks the car to the outstanding service table side. Napkins are refolded whenever you leave your table. The food is excellent quality. I had the veal chop topped with crab meat and brussels sprouts wrapped in bacon. Both were excellent. For dessert it was strawberry cheesecake and cappuccino. We also had French Martinis which were very good.

This place never fails to impress We love the food and the service is superb. Well worth every penny.
We were greeted by a very polite gentlemen working the host stand who informed us our table would be ready shortly and invited us to have a drink at the bar upstairs.
The bar upstairs was full but that didn’t stop us from promptly receiving our drinks. After one round at the bar our table was ready and we were led to our seats.
We got the hot anti pasta as an appetizer as well as the spinach salad wrapped in thinly sliced prosciutto. Both were excellent. Our table was perfectly cleaned and cleared by our outstanding busser/food runner. His name was Frankie and he was really a handsome fella. I wouldn’t be surprised to see modeling in the future.
Our dinners were great, scallops cooked perfectly, raviolis were excellent and the veal chop fell off the bone.
Again Frankie came to perfectly clean our table and ready it for dessert. That guy was really something else.

Our meal was one of the best we’ve had anywhere ever! We shared the spinach salad (very good) and the stuffed poblano peppers (incredible). My wife got the scallop special (loved them) and broccolini (very good). I got the veal chop (top five meal I’ve ever had) and the pasta with oil and garlic (awesome) .... Aimee was our waitress and did an incredible job !!! Would 100% recommend !
Just went here for my anniversary and it was beautiful! Very historic elegant vibe and the night ended with a 3 piece jazz band which only made me love this place more. It is definitely on the pricer side but the portions are large and the food is delicious. I will definitely be back!
Food was good, service was good, ambience was great. Value for money was ok. We had to wait 40 minutes even though we had a reservation which was very disappointing, and they were not apologetic at all nor did they try to make it right. It ruined our experience a bit and it was very pricey, not sure I would go again.
