Delighted to squeeze in lunch at Sartoria before Lockdown 2. For those, like me, who can find antipasti/primi/secondi a bit daunting at lunchtime, the introduction of the ‘Cicchetti’ selection is a masterstroke. Cicchetti/antipasti/primi not only allows for that additional glass of wine but also leaves room for dolce and coffee if time and inclination allow (they did!). If you agree with Keith Waterhouse that the best lunches should feel mildly sinful, then the courgette flower gratin with ricotta and lemon is just the start to tempt the (slightly) fallen angels. Crab salad “brown and white” is a menu constant but one that subtly evolves with the changing seasons. The current iteration features a quenelle of white and brown crab with white and red chicory, baby gem, golden and purple beetroot, orange, yellow and purple baby heritage carrots, and red and white breakfast radish – a gloriously vibrant still life on a plate. Tagliolini with Scottish lobster, Amalfi lemon, chilli, and basil was an indulgent centrepiece, and the pistachio cake rounded things off very nicely. Great food, good wines and excellent service – this is why we go to restaurants and why, in these straightened times, they deserve our support and respect.
We came especially for the maraschino cherry dessert, and even though the service was quite slow and in a quiet restaurant we were seated over in a corner we had some confusion with the waiter which came due because he suggested another two desserts away from the one we had specifically come for (as seen this on tv) and when the wrong dish came, we mentioned that we had received the wrong one which led to the waiter walking off without a word in disgust. He never apologised and instead made us feel uncomfortable for having to swap the dish. From that point to leaving we felt that the waiter treated us very poorly.
The service was a bit slow but very friendly. The food was outstanding, especially Cacio e pepe 🍝
The taste of the brunch was exquisite! The Eggs Purgatorio out of this world and the crab omelette perfectly balanced with Amalfi lemon & chili.
You will go to heaven with the Tartufo di pizzo for dessert!!
The Della Vite Prosecco was good, subtle, dry, transparent.
Came for a birthday - experience was not made special in any way nor acknowledged.
Food was disappointing. Anchovy roll starter was so salty it was inedible (perhaps expected but way too overbearing)
Lobster spaghetti was lacklustre and not flavoursome. I wouldn't even buy it for a quarter of the price.
The liquorice cod was great though, very tasty.
The service was lacking in many fronts. Waiter spilled a drink on one of us and did not apologise. He just went off to find tissue to clean it as though he had not just ruined someone's whole experience and outfit. He then condescendingly passed over a business card asking to send over any laundry bill.
They then got the bill wrong and we had to get it corrected - they had added 2 additional drinks one of which was spilt on one of us! We had to request the service charge to be removed. Very disappointed.
The special menu was great value for money. We had a nice dinner with decent service.
Great meal, very authentic, good choice of wines. One of the best Italian meals I have had outside of Italy!
Very nice, both food and staff top quality.
Looking forward to returning.
The Black Cod was unreal!!!!! Absolutely amazing
Could have had some music to help with the ambience and felt a little rushed due to the 10pm curfew. No complimentary item even though it was an anniversary but the food was so good that we didn’t mind. Also the Japanese Negroni & the Negroni Bianco were some of the best I’ve ever tasted!
Food and service both DIVINE.
I went there for dinner to celebrate my birthday.
The service was outstanding, the food was absolutely delicious. The ambience was truly perfect.
The 2 waiters & sommelier who gave us service were really lovely, they were really professional, attentive and efficient.
I will definitely be returning.
the food and service was not good enough and this restaurant is definitely off my list
The restaurant was empty and the staff was just chatting between them. We are left unserved at the table for 15 minutes before they even have us the wine list. When I asked why nobody was serving our table they answered very rude and with attitude. Poor place
We loved lobster pasta, but this time wasn’t good . However, dessert is still very good.
Overpriced for what it was.
Not much more to say.
great restaurant and the food was delightful, i would like to see a bit more of it but everything was scrumptious thanks.
Great service with extremely attentive staff
Not great for the price we paid. Food average. Waiters not quite attentive given the restaurant was not full. We gave it an overall mostly because of the rude service offered by the receptionist who so happened helped to take our card for payment and returned our coats.
We went there for our anniversary and it was very good. Actually, it looks way better in real life when the lights are dim and you can feel the atmosphere. Overall, very nice experience.
Disappointing main courses for three of the four diners, and wine list VERY expensive. But quiet enough and excellent starters and desserts, plus a charming lady attending to our orders.
Fantastic pastas. Chef was happy to accommodate a request to switch from penne to spaghetti.
My wife and I were really excited to come back to this restaurant and to introduce it to my parents that they were coming directly by train from Brussels. Unfortunately their train has been delayed and I ve called directly the restaurant around 11h30 to tell them that we will be there around 1.30 instead of 12.30. No worries... The lady who welcomed us was really cold and told us that no one called them and make us feeling really uncomfortable.
Thanks goodness the food was excellent and the chefs de rangs, head waiters and sommeliers were really professionals and friendly. We will try to forget this cold welcome and will certainly come back soon.
Went on the evening standard january offer, fantastic just fantastic. Got home and sunday morning cooked from francescos cookbook italian fried chicken and that got devoured too. Probably the best italian dining experience in london, loved it
The waiter that served us was very jolly and happy and helpful which made the dinner very pleasant and my guests enjoyed it. The fish and tagatali pasta was great including the tiramisu and panna cotta but the portion of my guest green pasta was quite small for mains which was abit disappointing.
We then had either the supervisor or Asst manager in black jacket and a beard serving us initially and the bill but his attitude was terribly rude and abrupt which made the night quite unpleasant in some ways.
I would review his performance if I was management. Otherwise all was good
Fantastic food !
Excellent as ever! Great value lunches with excellent space around tables
Nous étions venus pour les pâtes aux truffes, à notre arrivée à table le serveur nous indique qu’il y en a plus. Extrêmement déçus !
C’est bon mais sans plus. Les prix sont exagérés.
Lovely laid back environment with excellent food to boot!
It cost us £285 for 3 people to eat here and the food was really quite disappointing considering the cost. The service was good as well as the ambiance, my £30 lobster main course mmmmm
Where was the lobster? 3 or 4 very small pieces of something and a whole plate of pasta! My other 2 guests were also hugely disappointed with the food, one main course @ £24 was returned and not reordered, that was our own choice. Such a disappointing meal
From the moment we arrived in this restaurant, we felt directly that we were at the right place. Really nice atmosphere, beautiful dining room, warm welcome . The menu let you know that the level will be there without being pretentious. The service was professional and warm. Nice wine list and nice selection of wine by the glass. We will definitely come back soon!
Great service and food was very good. Pre-theatre dining.
My main course arrived cold. Disappointed.
An excellent well-balanced set price lunch menu.
One of us had the vegetable and barley soup, the other the tagliolini arrabiata. Then a really delicious and unusual baked cod presented in the skillet— attractive to look at and super-hot! A panna cotta With autumn fruits and a pistacchio cake— both enticing and the cake particularly out of the ordinary...
Very wide ranging unusual list of wines by the glass
Spacious and elegant room.
We have been going to Sartoria for a long time and although the quality of the food has improved the ambience seems to have suffered - possibly due to change of staff. The joy of eating in a restaurant such as this includes the interaction with staff and if it isn't there the whole experience suffers. We will be back but hope we're made to feel more welcome on the next visit.
The host could have been slightly friendlier!
A great upmarket environment, without feeling too over the top. The wait staff were great and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, though there were a few element I felt could have been a bit stronger in terms of flavour. . That being said, for the price I was not disappointed at all. I'm sure I will be back and I had a wonderful evening. Fantastic restaurant
Very positive experience. Food was very good, and everything, from greeting to drinks was amazing. Table service was one of the best we’ve ever received. Felt welcomed by all the staff. We will come back in the future.
Special night,lovely service amazing food
We had crab salad, octopus and winter salad to share that we loved,we tried also the Orecchia di Elefante (Veal Milanese ) that was very tender and rich of flavor
Bottle of Barbaresco and we left very happy
