Co-owners and chefs Aaron Israel and Sawako Okochi created a menu that combines both Jewish and Japanese cultures as well as fresh ingredients sourced from local markets. Plates, such as matzoh ball ramen with foie gras dumpling and sake kasu challah with raisin butter, are meant to be shared with the table for dinner. Visit for brunch and enjoy the lox bowl or Shalom Japan burger.
Great little gem of a restaurant. Quaint establishment offering a small and unique menu, but food is spot on!! Everything on the menu is delicious! Food is very flavorful, but portions are small for the price.
Beautiful setting and such nice service!
The food was overall amazing as we got the Omakase and got to try a little of everything. 10/10 would come back and recommend to friends
Great food, great service, creative dishes. Went back for 3rd or 4th time after being away for a year. Still consistently delicious.
Lovely dinner. Great, unique flavors. Would go back!
This restaurant is amazing, there is no words to describe every bite. You need to go and try, it is definitely a very special experience. My party of tree and I were delighted with every plate we tried here. The matzo ramen is one of the best ramens we ever had. Overall amazing, service was outstanding. My husband had one of the best birthday meals he ever had.
Shalom Japan exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be going back. The menu is just the right size. The duck wings were mouth watering. As was the matzoh ball ramen, but the foie gras dumpling for an extra $4 - not really worth it.
Everything was just okay. Food should have been interesting but fell flat. Space was very unimpressive and just like any other dimly lit Williamsburg restaurant.
The food was unique and delicious. But the portions were so small—the pastrami sandwich was bite sized. And the wait for food was an hour. It was very pricey too.
Unique and delicious food. Definitely will return.
Everything about this place was perfect.
I was thrilled to read about the fusion of Jewish and Japanese kitchen and had to try it. The menu read exciting. The result on the plate wasn’t as much as my okonomiyaki was overcooked and the matzo ball ramen underseasoned (surely Japanese food usually isn’t seasoned much). BUT still I’d recommend trying this place as the food is good and the service des behind it great!
Delicious food with a fun menu. Solid Bloody Mary, but I'm definitely interested in trying other cocktails on their menu in the future. Service was solid and the bartender was nice. I hope to come back soon.
The food was very creative and extremely well prepared. The service was wonderful. We chose a number of dishes and asked the wait person to serve them as she though best. The order in which the food was brought was perfectly done.
Great food. A bit pricey though
Omakase and sake pairing was delicious. Sake sommelier very knowledgeable!
The staff made my wife’s birthday absolutely fantastic!
We had the omakase and the matzoh ball ramen, tuna tataki, toro toast, and falafel “scotch” egg with hummus were exceptionally memorable - dishes we will be dreaming back of for a long time to come.
We love Shalom Japan, and are never disappointed!
Went for a friends bday. Since it was our first time we ordered the Omakase and got to try a bunch of different dishes. One thing was better than the next. The drinks were amazing as well. Definitely recommend.
The Wagyu Pastrami was fantastic!
Lovely as always! The food is great and inventive, great drink menu. My only regret is that it is not closer to my home!
The ultimate in fusion cuisine. Take two completely geographic different areas (Asia and the Middle East) as your jumping of points and then do anything you like from there! In truth this was neither Japanese nor Jewish food, case in point The Jew Egg. Actually this was a middle eastern take on a Scotch egg made with falafel instead of sausage meet and sitting on a bed salad like things that you'd never see in Scotland. It was actually wonderful and funny to boot. The food is excellent, extremely inventive and imaginatively presented. Quality that is way above it's station for what looks like a local cafe in an offbeat location in Brooklyn. The concept as in the name is jarring which is why I hadn't been here before the experience was the opposite.
Amazing time at Shalom Japan! Tried the matzo ball ramen, which was really good and the egg & cheese on challah with pastrami added. So delicious! Also really great iced coffee, decor, location, and overall ambience!
Food was exceptional and service was great!
Fantastic food served by the nicest people.
The waiter was very helpful and the food was outstanding. Also, dishes came out in a timely manner and we never felt rushed. Overall, a great experience and inventive food.
The food was great, as always!
so awesome. highly recommend. amazing fusion. cocktails are perfectly balanced.
Amazing restaurant. Such creative and inventive food and a cool fun atmosphere.
This is one of my go-to place because there are some dishes I just crave (Tuna Tataki, Lox Bowl) and they always have something new / interesting to offer as well (Wagya Pastrami Sando!!).
Jewish-Japanese? Or Japanese-.Jewish? Either way, the food was inventive and delicious.
Amazing dining experience, with exemplary knowledge on all menu items including traditional Japanese beverages. Attended to our needs providing samples and any additional food requests as needed. Can't wait to go back and try the other half of the menu!
Very nice local spot with loud music, excellent service at the bar and innovative dishes
We love the combination of East meet West (Jewish&Japanese) food. We chose “omasake” menu and let the chef introduces whatever dish he thinks it best for us and we were very satisfied with all of the dishes.
The service is great and the ambience is fantastic. We will come back for sure.
Amazing! One of the greatest tasting menus I've had and paired with the sake, it made for a really great night. Such a good spot and was so happy to discover it :)
Literally one of the best restaurants in New York. Every dish is so imaginative, so delicious, and so utterly enjoyable that we ordered 1 of everything on the menu (no exaggeration!). An eternal favorite. So thankful for this place!
Fam in town.
Exceeds expectations every time I go. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly. Anyone I’ve brought here raves about this place. They have such a different take on food combinations and flavors.
LOVE this place. The food is amazing and the menu is always very creative. Highly recommend to anyone on a foodie adventure, seeking a special place to dine for an occasion, or really, any reason at all :)
This was the best meal I have ever had in my 25 years in New York.
I've been to Shalom Japan a few times now and it has become one of my favorites. I love the inventive food combinations and the rich flavors; also the drinks are not to be missed. Shalom Japan is a true neighborhood gem!
