Shanahan's on the Green
Overlooking St. Stephen's Green, this lovingly restored Georgian, old-world style building, with it's classically proportioned rooms with original 18th century plaster work and rare antiques from the period.
"The Oval Office" bar features historical treasures including the original JFK rocking chair and signed documents from U.S. Presidents with Irish connections!
A vacation extravagance that was okay but not up to our expectations. Desserts were not good. We had a server switch midway through dinner which improved the ambiance but still just okay
First time in Shanahan’s & was beyond expectations..!!
I went with my pregnant wife on new years eve and we had a lovely time. The service was very good from start to finish. The food was very generous portions and was cooked exactly as requested. The restaurant atmosphere was relaxed and quiet which was what we hoped for. The cost was high but we always say we would rather pay and get a nice meal than pay cheap and be disappointed. The decoration in the restaurant was a little dated even though it is a Georgian style restaurant it was starting to looked old. Overall very happy and would recommend.
Outstanding as always. The best steak in Dublin. Highly recommend the cookie cheesecake.
first visit to Shanahan’s and was not disappointed... pre theatre menu is excellent value, the service was top notch yet relaxed, the food delicious and perfectly presented... was there celebrating a birthday, nice touch for dessert serving bubbly & treats on the house...
Exceptional attention to details! Great experience and evening for anniversary dinner!
Lovely spot with wonderful service and excellent food.
Went out with a group for a nice dinner before heading back to the United States. Everything was delicious and they were very accommodating for a special diet. Be sure to go downstairs to enjoy a cocktail before you sit down at your table. Great ambience and very relaxing.
Exceptional food and service. Pre-theatre menu is excellent, both in terms of choices on offer as well as value.
El servicio fue regular. Fueron eficientes y efectivos pero no tan amables. La comida fue regular, para el precio.
Food was very good. The server was snooty. The patrons were very mature....
I have always heard that Shanahan's was an institution for good steaks in Dublin so we decided to try it for our anniversary dinner.
We ordered our starter and mains with drinks from the not so happy waiter. No smiles, just stone faced, even through my ordeal later on. We were given bread which was tasty and very shortly our starters arrived. I order the crab salad which was ok, my partner ordered the mussels which tasted very fresh and juicy, some of the best I ever had. The portions were very generous.
For the mains, my partner ordered the petit fillet, cooked rare. The steak temperature was cooked as instructed. There was a bit more tendon than normal but sometimes expected depending on the cut. Overall it was ok, but by far the nicest we've had.
I ordered the bone in rib eye, cooked medium rare. I cut my steak open to see how the temperature is in the centre and I was surprised to see it quite cooked inside, way passed medium I thought. I then cut a piece to eat and felt it was one of the driest steaks I've ever had. Normally I never complain as I generally just eat it and don’t return if I have a bad experience but given the special day and the price point here, I informed my waiter my thoughts when he arrived to check on us and he seemed surprised as if there was no way I could be right. I asked him to ask the chef if this is normal and he brought the steak back in. After a couple mins, he came out to inform me that the chef said that the steak was OK but they will make me a fresh one. After 5-10mins, my new steak arrived. This time it was cooked right and tasted much more tender and juicy, but still far from the best I’ve had. But I don’t understand how the chef thought the first steak was OK, after inspecting it when I sent it back. This place is renowned for its steaks, yet the chef can’t see when a steak is overcooked?
To summarise, other than the tasty mussels and generous portions, there is nothing I experienced here that would make me go back.
This restaurant was surprisingly average. The price of the steaks did not match the quality of the meat nor did the quality of the cooking. For a steakhouse the cuts of meat were not tender enough. They were tough to cut and they were tough to chew.
The food was under seasoned across the board. The spinach salad was a watery and oily mess after they delivered the wrong salad to start with.
When we entered the restaurant we were ushered downstairs to a cocktail bar. We were told our table wasn’t ready. This, despite the restaurant being less than half full. Once we ordered our cocktails, we were immediately brought upstairs to our table that was suddenly ready. Now I am €40 behind the game.
I don’t mind paying for the quality of product. However in this case, the food wasn’t up to the standard I expected. All of this aside, nor was the service to be honest. The gentleman that served as had been working there for 18 years. It seems that a refresh may be needed. Time to get out of the 90s and embrace the future.
Excellent nothing else needs to be said
5* Dining Staff were highly attentive to detail especially surprising my GF with a Birthday Cake. Food was impeccable and ambience was Calm
Beautiful restaurant with amazing food. Waitstaff was excellent! Highly recommended steakhouse!
Excellent food, service and wine list
I don't like steakhouses generally speaking...but I LOVE Shanahan's on The Green. I just love everything about the place...the Irish beef is amazing, cooked perfectly...the sides are fantastic, the vibe and atmosphere...it's just perfect. The service and Martin, the manager are absolutely the best. I'm usually here once a year and without fail, I'm gonna have a meal at Shanahan's on The Green.
This is a great steakhouse. My filet mignon was prepared perfectly and served by the chef. My wife loved the lamb chops. The service by the entire staff was excellent.
Service was excellent, professional but relaxed. They gave us complimentary chocolates and a drink for my husbands birthday because I mentioned it was a birthday in the booking. The steaks are BIG and tasty. Really enjoyed our meal at Shanahan’s.
Soooooooooooo nice. From the moment we arrived until we left we had an amazing time. Upon arrival we were greeted with a great welcome by two lovely friendly girls on the front desk. We were shown to our table and our lovely waiters greeted us and were extremely nice. Our food was beyond amazing and the staff surprised us by presenting us with chocolates and a glass of fizz for our anniversary. I’m looking forward to visiting again soon and highly recommend Shanahan’s to everyone looking for an amazing night out.
Simply the best restaurant in Dublin
Outstanding. Excellent quality steaks. Love the wine list. Great downstairs bar. Fun US Presidential theme.
Great food. A real treat! Without doubt the finest restaurant in Dublin.
Poor experience on this occasion. The food was of a good standard. We both had steak and the creamed mash, and satueed mushrooms. The price of the food is very expensive. 200 euro for 2 mains, bottle of wine and 2 shared sides.
Exceptional service from a warm friendly reception, luxury comfortable surroundings, selection of gourmet fine dining & cosy bar setting for pre/post dinner drinks. I would highly recommend to friends for memorable occasions.
A superb venue for a business meeting over excellent food, staff couldnt do enough, perfect ambiance. Highly recommend.
From pre-dinner cocktails in the Oval office through to putting our coats on to leave at the end of the evening the experience at Shanahans was luxurious. The staff are friendly, helpful and unintrusive and the food was wonderful.
An evening in Shanahans is something everyone should enjoy at least one.
We booked a special meal to celebrate our anniversary and really enjoyed it
Lovely restaurant, amazing food and friendly staff
Would visit again!
Shanahan’s is a favorite place for dining for my Irish ☘️ brother in law Tom and he introduced me many years ago to the Oval Office and then the fine dining. Well my sweetheart Irene and I arrived for our reservation time and we were seated at a nice table and our waiter Ben came to introduce himself and brought us our drinks 🍷 and we reviewed the menu listings and told Ben our dinner choices and we then enjoyed our relaxing time talking and after a pleasant and enjoyable time our dinner was served by Ben and another waiter who’s name was Paul. All the foods were cooked to perfection and everything was hot and placed before us in a very appealing way. We ate our very tasty and tender dinner and were asked if all was satisfactory to us by our waiter Ben. It was another very very enjoyable evening as I expected having been there many times over the years as I have always lodged a short walk at the wonderful FitzWilliams Hotel. I’m going to be returning from Massachusetts in the spring and we are planning to have our friends join with us for another fine dinner at Shanahan’s again. All of the Shanahan’s staff is very friendly.
My Regards. AlfredB
Disappointing - steaks did not live up to the billing.
We were given a table near some diners with loud, out of control children. The restaurant moved our table and apologized noting Ireland’s civil rights rules would not permit denial of service. I was amazed that a restaurant of this quality would admit babies under 6 months and parties with several children. Sadly, these diners were American!
Never disappoints though was surprised they only serve Oysters Rockefeller and not raw. This is Ireland, a place of this calibre should have normal Oysters. Other than that, food excellent. Some great wines by the glass using Coravin which is pretty cool. €27 for a 2003 Leoville Barton is not bad all things considered.
Birthday dinner nicely celebrated.
My second visit to Shanahan’s...it was even better than I remembered it was from 10 years ago.
From the expertly made cocktails, the magnificent salmon appetizer, the perfectly cooked filet mignon and rump of lamb roast....so incredibly delicious and a wonderful experience for my friends that I took on their first visit to Ireland...a wonderful first impression. It’s still pretty pricey but it was worth it. Also, excellent and friendly service.
Lovely place to attend for our anniversary! Would recommend to everyone visiting London. It isn’t for someone on a budget but perfect for a special occasion
Unreal steak and fantastic service! A wonderful treat
Beautiful food and brilliant staff. Thank you for making this birthday meal so special.
We really enjoyed our meal at Shanahans, and booking it through Open Table was very convenient and reliable.
