This knowledge and experience is interwoven with their youthful vibrancy, a determination to bring a creative and modern collection of ideas and flavours to the table.
An excellent well-executed, and reasonably-priced meal complemented by attentive and thoughtful service. Highly recommended.
It was our 35th anniversary and we thought we would get out of our way (1hr drive from Guildford ) to go down memory lane in Henley. I had read decent reviews about the restaurant and we wanted to avoid « pub food ». Unfortunately this is pretty much what we got. The chicken terrine was not bad thank to the little purées it was served with and the lamb was just standard, the roasted potatoes and Yorkshire pudding too hard and dry to enjoy them and two small kidney pieces while this was supposed to be a feature in the dish. The wine list never came so we thought we would just shorten our meal and have dessert somewhere else.
The atmosphere was not cheerful and the terrace patio door kept being opened and closed for people seating outside which made the room chilly as it was very breezy that day.
There is no parking at the restaurant so you basically have to park at the public car park which is very narrow and long and busy. This should be mentioned when you book the restaurant.
Thankfully the walk along the river was a winner as the sun was out. We won’t come back...
I would be very happy to recommend the Set Lunch Menu on a Saturday as food was very good but it is such a shame that the decor is so poor in this restaurant with no atmosphere.
It's called a Boathouse but nothing in the internal suggest we are by the river and boats.
This is one of our all time restaurants - first class food and service
Relaxing Sunday lunch with friends. We all enjoyed the food, which was sophisticated and tasty
Outstanding. The best food I have had in the price range. Highly recommended.
Amazing meal! We had attentive service, great ambience, wonderful food. They acknowledged our special occasion and were flexible to let us move outside for coffees and watch the world go by. A great find.
Booked a table here for my partners birthday.
First time here and was not disappointed.
The food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were lovely.
I would definitely like to return next time I am in the area.
Try it and see, you won't regret it.
The starters (Salmon & salad) were great and very tasty but I thought the main courses were plain. We had the onglet and it was chewy and the charred lettuce was burned. It was served with plain baby potatoes. Not worth £28 for it.
Desserts were ok.
Wine was fabulous and service was great. It is looking onto the Thames river and is very nice setting.
Food was excellent as always, well presented, consistent, original.
Unfortunately service levels let things down on this visit.
Plenty of staff, asking if you want anything else, but forgetting to fulfil all additional requests. Including; table water, bread for terrine plus we had to ask 3 times for a lemonade & lime!
I love this place, but my friends I brought were surprised at the poor service.
Wonderful setting, attentive staff, delicious breakfast and very reasonably priced.
Underwhelmed- sums it up, the interior decor wasn’t great, ceiling tiles looked like my old office ones, cobwebs to above a light, little or no atmosphere.
Food okay, too much charred stuff though.
Service quite good, shame about the wine we chose not being available.
All in all okay but no more than that, exceptionally quiet for a Friday night with only a few tables being used, sadly I wouldn’t rush back.
Weekday lunchtime visit; friendly, professional front of house staff showed the four of us to a generously sized table with an excellent view of the river in a light, well designed dining room. Our starters, chosen from the £28/34 for 2/3 courses menu, were charred broccoli and chicken terrine: both excellent; mains that we had were belly of lamb and skate, again excellent. In my opinion, the belly of lamb is one of the best mains at anything like this price that I have eaten for several years and in delightful surroundings. Suitable wine list with something for everyone. We will return!
Professional, unobtrusive service. Flavoursome and interesting food. An all round delightful dining experience
Experience excellent from start to finish. We changed the time of the booking last minute which the restaurant happily accommodated. Service from all staff was excellent, we were made to feel like an important guest throughout. We both had 3 courses and couldn’t fault any of the food - taste was exceptional. Will definitely visit again for another treat!
Attentive front of house on arrival, gave gluten free option & accommodate elderly guests. However the food was average @ overpriced!
One member of staff was a little whiffy that was rather unpleasant!
This is a great place for a special meal. The food was excellent and the service was just right - attentive but not intrusive.
The food was excellent but the service was really bad - slow, indifferent and inaccurate. Asked three times for a glass of wine which eventually arrived 35 minutes later - then charged for an extra glass that came and was sent away!
Excellent food and service
Great front of house team. So obliging and friendly. Food was excellent. Sean is a very talented chef and deserves to do well. Gemma is a perfect
We visited on a very quiet mid week evening. It was not busy hence my downscore on ambience.
The food and service were impeccable. Really good.
Surprised it was not busier, as the situation is to die for - right on the river, and the weather was pretty amenable to aperitifs on the terrace. The food is excellent and the competition around is not all that.
I know the restaurant has been around for several years now, but I hope it continues to thrive and I will be back.
The host was excellent and the food was lovely. In a romantic location.
The perfect place for lunch in Henley, directly overlooking the river but sufficiently removed from passing tourists to feel pleasantly peaceful, even while seated at an outside table. Friendly and prompt service provided by Gemma. The quality of food was excellent - way better than might be expected from such a convenient waterside location. A limited number of menu choices, but interesting and unusual. I enjoyed the tartare of salmon with beetroot followed by a delightfully crisp-skinned skate. Rachel enjoyed her charred broccoli followed by panisse. We had to try, and would recommend, the house gin and we went for the suggested Hungarian Laposa, which was pleasantly light and crisp - just right for a delightful summer's day. Strongly recommended.
Highly recommend, excellent food , wine and service.
Not a good experience. Really long wait for the food. And for a premium restaurant the menu is not very extensive.
We came for a special lunch and the team made it even more special with amazing food, fan service and even sang happy birthday to my mother! Cant wait to come back
Brilliant staff, location and outstanding food. I will definitely return.
Great apart from a few wasps and a couple of things. One of our party had chosen something specific off the website menu only to find the menu had changed. Bit of a shame. A non-wine drinks menu would also be a bonus. Bar that, thanks for a lovely meal.
Great lunch outside on a sunny day. Service was exemplary. The menu very good value though the taste of my lamb dish stayed with me for the rest of the afternoon...
As soon as you walk in the restaurant the staff make you feel welcome, my partner and I had a drink on the terrace first and chose our meals. The staff helped with details about the food even down to what a sauce was made from. The menu wasn’t huge which we liked and when the food was served, Wow ! Every course we had was lovely with a twist on some of the flavours. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but slowly filled up, but the noise levels were low. If you’re looking for a romantic meal as we were, or even somewhere to take a group of people then definitely try this restaurant. We both had a faultless evening and would absolutely go back and recommend to our friends!
Excellent service and good food for our celebration lunch for 8 of us....
Great food, great setting, great service
Will definitely be back - thank you
Amazing food and services. The onglet was brilliant. Super wine list as well.
Interesting menu and food.
Service friendly but slow and inattentive - don't expect to have ask for the bill twice and then receive it as I walk to the door. Long time between sitting down and being brought drinks etc.
Service was incredibly slow to the point that we had to ask for menus several times, waited over half an hour for drinks, it really was a bad start. Fortunately the food rescued it, excellent from start to finish, the basil sorbet was a particular highlight .
Great lunch which was enjoyed by the 4 of us. We went for the 3 course meal and thoroughly enjoyed it
We have be a few times over the last couple of years and seen a maturing of the menu. Sean is clearly at one with creating beautifully tasting food that is innovative and intriguing. His standards and dreams are supported by the staff who are keen for the diner to experience the best of times, and we did. Two dishes stand out for different reasons. The pork and red cabbage was mouth melting, whilst who new you could pickle broccoli stems in the charred broccoli and lemon to such a delight. The sommelier introduced us to a fabulous wine - having talked to us about their Lebanese choice. Front of house took care to make us feel welcome and important. The effort of all the staff contribute to a wonderful evening. THank you.
Have been twice recently for lunch. Set lunch fabulous. Great quality ingredients, intense flavours and stunning presentation. Lucky enough to sit on the terrace too which is a lovely setting. Not keen sitting inside - lacks atmosphere.
Most enjoyable evening. We will be back. The restaurant fills a dap in the Henley range if eating places at the top end of the league and deserves to be recognised.
