Famous Kobe Wagyu Burger
Widely accepted as the most expensive & succulent meat in the world. The cattle are reared in Kobe, Japan & massaged daily & fed on beer until they weigh threequarters of a tonne. This exceptional upbringing gives the meat its unique richness, tenderness & unique cost. To sample this burger in Knightsbridge in London will set you back 65. Wagyu is also the only beef in the world scientifically proven to reduce Cholesterol levels & first went on sale in Harrods in 2003. The delicacy is a favourite of the stars with James Bond legend Pierce Brosnan & Tennis ace Borris Becker regularly tucking into the Wagyu burger. At Silk Room the Wagyu Burger is served in a specially made sun-dried tomato bun with fresh lollo rosso, curly endive & rocket leaves, beef tomatoes, cucumber, portobello mushroom and onion ring. Served with hand-cut chips and home-made relish
It was unfortunate that the new lockdown imposition on Newcastle hospitality venues brought cancellation of bookings on the restaurant. That said, it was also unfortunate for me that the only other customers in the restaurant that evening were raucous to the point of being at times deafening. The waiter sympathised but was reluctant to act.
So much for the background, which I admit could possibly have affected my attitude to the evening.
I had the scallop starters. According to the menu the scallops were to be accompanied by chorizo and pea purée but these were in such small measures as to be barely discernible. The lamb shank with mixed veg side for main course was well cooked. The cheesecake I had for dessert was fine.
I paid the 10% service charge. I feel sorry for these places as they must be struggling to survive in the current difficult times, but I did feel the meal was a little overpriced. With a cocktail, small wine and service I paid just over £60. My advice to anyone wishing to save on the bill would be to avoid the scallops starter.
Lovely champagne, perhaps should have left it at that. Quite expensive food for what it was, decor was outdated and didn't give luxurious vibe that was expected. The waiters were however wonderful and very friendly and attentive.
Food very good. Sensible sized menu. No bitter. Good service. Nice place.
Visited for the wagyu burger and the food was great but the service was incredibly poor and to make it worse there was a service charge , not sure I’d go back
Food was pleasant enough but the place itself was a bit shabby - toilets not great with items piled up outside. Just looked overall tired when u had a look round - would not return but as I said the food was fine just let down by the restaurant itself. Staff were lovely - nothing to complain about there
Had the loveliest night, would absolutely recommend!
Service was a little slow but overall a really enjoyable evening and great food
Fantastic food, fantastic staff...... and great food.
Amazing restaurant on the quayside, great atmosphere and splendid food and staff.
Amazing food, amazing service. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you so much all the staff had smiles on their faces and and everything was Perfect.
Food was amazing wine was good x and service was fab all in all a great date night
Amazing food in a really cute setting, would definitely return!
We and my wife had a table booked as part of the 'eat out to help out' scheme. It was also our anniversary. We were seated in a nice spot which seemed out the way of others which was quite refreshing. After our starters other guests arrived. There was a table with 2 girls and a table with a couple sat next to us. They weren't 2m away which left my wife rather anxious given the current climate. We ended up taking our wine outside to finish due to the restaurant becoming rather busy. This is literally the only negative I have for the restaurant.
My daughter & I went on Tuesday 25/8. Had a kir champagne & a glass of black label Lanson - very nice. Ordered a bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc which was really nice.
Daughter had scallops & I had king prawns to start - both were lovely - as was our mains - the ravioli & the Wagu burger (huge). Good food, good service everything was very enjoyable. Would def go back.
I enjoyed a safe relaxing night out with my husband eating and drinking some delicious food
Delicious food and wine. Great service and very safe environment in light of coronavirus.
Steak was overcooked. Waiters weren’t attentive. Wine was very average.
Excellent food and felt very safe very pleasant staff
Wasn’t as good as the first time I visited was quit disappointed as I’ve been waiting to go back went bk for my birthday but wasn’t as good
Pea purée with the scallop starter was fairly watery and the chorizo was slightly burnt in places. The Lamb was outstanding but the garnish was very poor. Mash potato was bland and lumpy, the carrots and veg were bland, basic, and underdone. For the price and setting I expected a higher standard of food. Overall it was a good evening for my birthday meal but I was slightly let down by the standard of food. For the prices being charged I was hoping for slightly more. Decided not to go for dessert based on the first two courses. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very good. Lovely setting and overall a good evening, sadly let down by the standard of the food of which I expected more for a £200 bill.
Very nice, food and drinks perfect, will be back next time we’re in Newcastle
Good service charge added and £1 for soda water in drinks
The food and service was excellent. I think the way they handled the restrictions was also good and well executed
Great food with friendly staff the burger was lovely and nice automesphere
Didn't have food so food comment isn't relevant and couldn't skip it. Friendly staff but Covid has destroyed the atmosphere everywhere. cant people watch or look out over the restaurant due to solid screens. very strange
Whenever we come to Newcastle we make sure we visit the silk room. Food is always amazing with service to match. Fabulous staff. They ensure socially distance and all other measures are in place yet still make you feel like life is getting back to normal. A great night out.
Cosy venue, very warm as a/c not on, fabulous food and service - fillet steak cooked to perfection. Just Staropramen on tap, cocktails we're wonderful. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
Food lovely pudding delicious but they really need to give the place a deep clean now the place is brighter the mirrors curtains are filthy
They went the extra mile to get Lobsters for us and keep a safe environment in these difficult times. The staff were excellent, extremely attentive and kept everything safe.
1st time I have been to silk room. The service was very slow we sat for a good 15 20mins before being offered a drink.
Then again service of the drinks took time.
The food was good and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I struggled to understand the bill too. It had service charge then 20% off and then no government discount. Which I felt embarrassed to question as I was taking a new girl friend out for a birthday meal.
However I won't be be returning.
Unfortunately for yourselves.
I booked a table for my partners birthday the table was late by 20 minutes I had to ask for a menu service took far too long steak was barely warm definitely won’t be back very disappointing!
We were well looked after, all social distancing measures were in place and were not intrusive. Our service was good and there was a pleasant, friendly atmosphere.
Visited the silk room for my partners birthday and wasn’t disappointed. Food and drinks were amazing, and service excellent. Will be returning.
We’ve been here before but it was a few year ago. It’s feels dated now and felt like it could do with a really good clean. The curtains around the entrance to the toilet looked particularly dirty. The lock on the ladies bathroom door was broken also.
The food was nice but not amazing, my steak was over cooked. Overall we felt it was overpriced. We couldn’t fault the staff however who were really lovely.
This was closed when we arrived. Needs probably taking of open table. Was very disappointing as we had booked this for our anniversary.
Fantastic visit this weekend, staff amazing, food out of this world, we will definitely be back soon
Excellent food, staff were very professional and not over attentive, when ever needed they were on hand without being over bearing. Had the kangaroo steak again and was beautiful. Wife had the waygu burger which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Was a bit quiet as we ate early but left feeling very satisfied.
Another wonderful and amazing meal at the Silk room, I wasn't sure if things would be the same during the pandemic restrictions but everything was great as per usual. Looking forward to our next visit already.
