Kangaroo Fillet Steak Port & Caramelised Pears
Kangaroo meat forms an important part of the traditional Australian Aboriginal diet and is called Kere Aherr e by the natives of Central Australia. The Kangaroo was first discovered by Europeans in 1770 by Captain James Cook on the banks of the Endeavour River when he was exploring Australia and still to this day is the only large animal in the world to use hopping as a means of locomotion. Kangaroo is a red meat high in protein, low in fat and rich in iron giving it a dark appearance similar to roast beef. It is best cooked medium rare. At Silk Room the Kangaroo fillet is cut into medallions and cooked with onions & pancetta then finished with a port, red currant & butter jus with caramelised pears and served with hand cut chips
Famous Kobe Wagyu Beef Burger, Homemade Relish, Hand Cut Chips
8oz Dry-Aged Fillet Steak
Garlic Butter, Roasted Vine Tomatoes, Hand Cut Chunky Chips
Disappointing visit after previous good visits. Seems to have lost some of it's identity and lacked character and mood.
No specific theme to the limited menu with relatively high prices (mains £15-£30 ish).
Food was cooked ok, but not fresh - accompanying sauces were not homemade and vegetables did not feel fresh but seemed reheated which is not ok given the prices.
Sadly the decor and service did not match the marketing of it being a champagne bar, and felt dated and old in comparison to newer venues in Newcastle.
Service was lack lustre and not that of a high end restaurant or luxury champagne bar - Disappointing to see Service charge included as standard on receipt based on this.
Feels a little bit lost in terms of personality and vision and was a disappointing experience, not helped by it being extremely quiet (2 tables including us!) and us being seated next to the only other table who were in, so no privacy or opportunity for quiet conversations and being seated in front of the bar meant the 2 staff who were in were stood directly behind the tables throughout our evening.
With all the new venues opening in Newcastle, Silk Room will need to find it's unique selling point again or will likely struggle after years as a firm favourite.
Fabulous food along with fabulous service. Thank you
We didn’t eat but the drinks menu was great. Was nice to be able to have a champagne by the glass. Waiter was lovely.
Quiet sunday evening, but servers could not have been more helpful - brilliant food!!
Lovely food! Great staff and friendly service. Thoroughly recommend for a quiet and well valued night out. Easy to book and a great menu
Amazing service , lovely food , enjoyable evening
Friendly and professional staff
Second time here.
Great food, great service! Will definitely be returning
Late booking for a birthday just 2 of us on a trip to Newcastle. Distanced tables with see-through screens between, although the restaurant had emptied by the time we got there. Good service, reasonable wine list -choice and price. Focus on champagne cocktails also which were very nice.Food choice a bit limited to be honest, restricted I think due to Covid, and a bit unusual.I had ravioli which was lovely but the dressing had far too much going on with cherry tomatoes & loads of rocket just a bit too much and overpowered the porcini filling. It also had a pesto oil so too many flavours.Otherwise nice -scallops to start which were OK.
Outstanding food served by outstanding waiters Marvin and Matthew. A great find and highly recommended
Everything here was top notch. The selection of champagnes was great, the cocktails were delicious & the food was out of this world. Came here for a 5th anniversary and we will definitely be back! We both had the fillet steak and its no joke to say that it is now the bar against which all future steaks will be measured! Our first meal out post-lockdowns and I think we definitely chose well!
Excellent all round. Could not be better. Perfectly cooked steak which was seasoned well. Normally people get this wrong.
Staff could not be better. Our taxi went missing and the staff refused to let us stand outside till it came.
Would highly recommend a visit and will certainly be back.
Amazing, most definitely going back!! Highly recommended
Our first visit but certainly wont be the last small but intimate restaurant. Great service and good menu. I had salmon and crayfish starter followed by the kangaroo steak served medium rare. It was amazing - melted in the mouth. Hubby had the scallop and chorizo starter followed by fillet steak. Great presentation and perfect portion sizes, all washed down with a couple of champagne cocktails and a lovely bottle of pinot noir. All Very reasonably priced great service from the waiters who were helpful and friendly without being intrusive or patronising. All in all a great dining experience.
Excellent food, service and very laid back. Would recommend to anyone who likes quality food and drink
Delicious food. Unusual items on menu. Champagne per glass well priced.
We had a lovely meal for my husbands birthday. Food was beautiful
Love this place. Food was fantastic and service was great
Really enjoyed visiting here for my fiances birthday meal. The food was nice, waiting staff very efficient and courteous. Great selection of drinks and the price wasn't too bad. Great atmosphere and very welcoming. Will definitly come again
The food and the service were very good . Our waiter was very helpful with our choices . There was hand sanitizer when you came In and everyone was in their own place .
Lovely food, great service. Overall great experience!
Went to the silk room on Saturday everything was COVID safe, staff were very friendly and outstanding food. We didn’t feel rushed with the 10.00pm curfew. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. 5 out of 5 for everything
We were very impressed with the variety of menu especially vegetarian options . Food was great - service was brilliant and it all summed up a wonderful night . Thank you .
Not what I expected restaurant's decor was very dark, food was OK but for the money I paid should have been a lot better
Got 2 items on my bill which I hadn't ordered & a gratuitous of £16.80 wheni only saw the staff when bringing food or wine to the table,
Next table to me were not happy either , won't be going back
Steak was up there with one of the best👌🏼
It was unfortunate that the new lockdown imposition on Newcastle hospitality venues brought cancellation of bookings on the restaurant. That said, it was also unfortunate for me that the only other customers in the restaurant that evening were raucous to the point of being at times deafening. The waiter sympathised but was reluctant to act.
So much for the background, which I admit could possibly have affected my attitude to the evening.
I had the scallop starters. According to the menu the scallops were to be accompanied by chorizo and pea purée but these were in such small measures as to be barely discernible. The lamb shank with mixed veg side for main course was well cooked. The cheesecake I had for dessert was fine.
I paid the 10% service charge. I feel sorry for these places as they must be struggling to survive in the current difficult times, but I did feel the meal was a little overpriced. With a cocktail, small wine and service I paid just over £60. My advice to anyone wishing to save on the bill would be to avoid the scallops starter.
Lovely champagne, perhaps should have left it at that. Quite expensive food for what it was, decor was outdated and didn't give luxurious vibe that was expected. The waiters were however wonderful and very friendly and attentive.
Food very good. Sensible sized menu. No bitter. Good service. Nice place.
Visited for the wagyu burger and the food was great but the service was incredibly poor and to make it worse there was a service charge , not sure I’d go back
Food was pleasant enough but the place itself was a bit shabby - toilets not great with items piled up outside. Just looked overall tired when u had a look round - would not return but as I said the food was fine just let down by the restaurant itself. Staff were lovely - nothing to complain about there
Had the loveliest night, would absolutely recommend!
Service was a little slow but overall a really enjoyable evening and great food
Fantastic food, fantastic staff...... and great food.
Amazing restaurant on the quayside, great atmosphere and splendid food and staff.
Amazing food, amazing service. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you so much all the staff had smiles on their faces and and everything was Perfect.
Food was amazing wine was good x and service was fab all in all a great date night
Amazing food in a really cute setting, would definitely return!
We and my wife had a table booked as part of the 'eat out to help out' scheme. It was also our anniversary. We were seated in a nice spot which seemed out the way of others which was quite refreshing. After our starters other guests arrived. There was a table with 2 girls and a table with a couple sat next to us. They weren't 2m away which left my wife rather anxious given the current climate. We ended up taking our wine outside to finish due to the restaurant becoming rather busy. This is literally the only negative I have for the restaurant.
