Simpson's In The Strand
Guests can also enjoy classic cocktails in Knight’s Bar, an art deco cocktail lounge located on the first floor. It is the perfect place to enjoy either a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner aperitif.
This latest dining experience was our third at Simpson's. We just love the place, the ambience, history, classic style and the food. I usually go for the Carving Cart and roast beef--why go to Simpson's for any other reason? The service was first rate, attentive without being overbearing. the prices were fine, even for London. The entire experience was delightful and i cannot wait to return.
Roast beef from trolley was the best part of the meal. Sweetbreads were the first I’ve tried and very tasty. Beef wellington could have been better. Great ambience and cocktail bar upstairs good fun. Pricey but memorable.
Not for a romantic meal as the restaurant was very loud but with friends and family.
Perfect, which is what you have come to expect from Simpson, and which they always deliver.
Here you can enjoy the best of old English traditions with lovely food to go with it.
Excellent food and service. Roast beef and steak and kidney pie were great. Staff goes out of their way to be helpful
From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff were very welcoming and attentive. What more can be said about the food except it was superb, we will return without doubt
Great food and service
We were made to feel very welcome. Food was first class, we had the pre-theatre menu, and could not fault the service at all. A fabulous experience.
If your immediate reaction is that this looks like a dining room from the past, you will be right, and yes, likewise for the menu. But, hey, you already suspected that before you went, right, and that’s why you went! You won’t be disappointed. The ambience is casually elegant, the service old school professional, and the food amazing. The manhattans up were on the mark, they oysters half shell excellent, the poached lobster appetizer perfect, and the prime rib of beef from the tableside carving station “melt in your mouth” delicious. Plus, who else has fresh horseradish like this - so good you could eat it alone! If I lived in London I would be there at least once a week. Ask the carver to give you a thick cut of beef if you prefer that to the several thin slices proffered - he will gladly oblige.
Fabulous experience, although a traditional menu it was varied and the quality was worth the price tag. Lovely calm atmosphere with superb staff. Top marks.
I like the decor of the restaurant. It felt classy and you could see the history of the restaurant. The quality of the food is excellent. The waiter made good recommendations with the wine pairing. Great experience.
Very simply a 'MUST' when in London. Traditional environment with the absolute best Beef Wellington EVER!
We experienced great food and service but the evening was spoiled by an overly loud and intrusive singer/pianist which dominated to the extent of making conversation at the table impossible. We asked our waiter if the volume could be toned down a bit but he was unsuccessful in doing this.
We have a party of 9 booked for lunch here on Saturday 12th October about which I am now apprehensive. Simpson’s need to take urgent action on this.
Une très belle soirée dans cette exceptionnelle maison que je fréquente depuis plus de trente ans toujours avec le même plaisir !
Brilliant service, amazing venue and great food! I definitely recommend them!
Wonderful Sunday Lunch !
One of my favourite places!! Such a beautiful room! Exquisite food! Fantastic service!
Unfortunately, my first experience with Simpsons was not what I expected. The first waitress seemed quite curt although others were much nicer. The meals were very nice but there was a problem with my guest’s main meal which meant that it was fifteen minutes late arriving and we had all finished ours before she received hers. The manager was very apologetic and agreed not to charge her for it but it it really spoiled the evening. The same curt waitress emptied my guest’s wine into my glass without asking which had a different wine in it and at seventeen pounds a glass that was rather upsetting. By this time we just wanted to leave and didn’t bother with dessert or coffee. I had been looking forward to our visit for a long time and ended up having to apologise to my guests for a really disappointing evening. Sorry, Simpsons but this really wasn’t a good experience.
Every time we come to London we here to have the best Prime Rib dinner you can possibly experience. I would highly recommend it and have never been disappointed.
It was my husbands birthday - the evening was wonderful. The food and service was 5 star, a beautiful British dinning room - will def be going back. Well done Simpson’s and staff
Best restaurant of all time.
Excellent food and service, probably slightly over priced
The lobster bisque was way too salty and my wine arrived when my plate was cold. Did expect much more from such a place.
Came here with my wife for our anniversary an we were blown away. The service was perfect, the atmosphere fantastic and the food was out of this world. The monkfish was like eating flavoured air it was so soft. The wife said the duck was incredible. The bill was far less than what I would expect from an establishment with this reputation. We will be back.
I’ve had positive experiences here before but this experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. They offer a pretheatre and we confirmed that we only had 1:15 to enjoy it. Drinks took about 20 minutes, starters about 30 and mains a bit after that and we had to cancel dessert. The food was perfectly pleasant (pretheatre doesn’t include their signature dish) and well presented, but that early in the evening the ambiance is somewhat lacking as it’s not very busy and they still seem to be setting up. If I try again it’d be for full a la cartel service and plan on spending the evening there.
My wife and I have eaten in Simpson’s many times and have always enjoyed every minute of our visit. Every aspect of this restaurant is special. The food always excellent.
For starters my wife had the smoked salmon and I had the Crab, both excellent. The presentation of both dishes delightful. Our mains of Beef from the trolley and the Roasted Cod excellent. The Beef was amazing and plentiful and it’s nice having it carved at the table. The cod was cooked to perfection. Then dessert, the profiteroles were quite different to others that I have had but tasted wonderful and presented well. My wife had the mango sorbet which she always enjoys. On this occasion we were celebrating a birthday and our waiter, Sam presented me with a birthday treat of sorbet and ice cream complete with candle. A very nice touch to end our lunch. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the restaurant and it’s history. Sam was very happy to share his knowledge with us and we enjoyed listening to him. He was clearly very happy with his place of work.
A quick mention for Knights Bar. We always start our meal with a cocktail from Knights Bar. This is a very nice place to have a quiet drink. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. Worth a visit before a good meal downstairs.
All the food was exceptional and as good as I remember it from 30 years ago. Excellent steak and kidney and roast beef. For our taste the music was louder than we would have wished. The evening was capped by a charming, complementary bonne bouche at the end. Hope to return soon
Best classic roast beef dinner that's available all week. The star of the show for me is their homemade horseradish sauce.
Kind and caring staff who treat their guests with courtesy and service rarely seen these days. It's the restaurant that other restaurants want to grow up to be like.
Four of us had lunch and the food and service was impeccable. The Beef Wellington remains the best I have ever tasted. It is not a cheap experience, but it is unique and worth the indulgence.
Simpson’s has not lost its class and charm through the years. Still superb service from coat check to table bus (our table was bussed by the dining manger who at the table answering some questions we had on the history of the club and noticed that we had finished our meals). Don’t miss Simpson’s on your next trip to London. Well worth the $$$$$ price tag.
We went to Simpson's in the strand after my parents highly recommended it, having gone 30 years ago. For an establishment that has been around for an astonishing 191 years, they seem to have suffered no loss of quality and if anything have aged like a fine wine. They feature terrific live music, a great atmosphere, and a friendly and hard working staff. They have a delightful array of cocktails and a wine and hard liquor menu that should leave few wanting. To speak of their actual menu, there is nothing we tried we wouldn't recommend and I will especially take the time to mention the roast beef served via carving cart tableside. The prices are on the high side so if you are on a budget this may not be the place for you but I will say you get exactly what you pay for and if you can afford it you are in for a fantastic experience. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in London.
Everything about Simpsons is lovely the ambience, decor, the bar, food and wine is exceptional I love it please don't change anything. The only aspect of the evening which I didn't like at all was the pianist who sang so loudly that I couldn't hear myself think never mind hold a conversation with my fellow dinners. I repeatedly had to ask for the pianist to sing less loudly and the songs were inappropriate for such a beautiful and unique restaurant.
As good as it gets We had a great night with good food
Simpson’s was somewhere I always wanted to visit. It lived up to our expectations. We opted for the Carvery knowing that we would be sure of a scrumptious piece of beef. It was carved at our table which hightened the experience. My wife only managed 2 courses but I had all 3 !! Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Overall a delightful experience and one we are sure to repeat.
Wonderful service and food provided by people who take pride in what they do . Nothing to add to what others have already positively commented on !
Our experience was somewhat unique in that power was lost during our dinner , a 50th Anniversary Celebration . The staff handled a complex situation very well ,
communicated with diners in an excellent manner . Advised that kitchen couldn’t work safely which was understandably the reality . Picture the diners arriving with later reservations,or those
who were seated and had not ordered , those who just received appetizers , those who were part of the way through dinner ( our situation ) . A difficult situation but handled well by a great restaurant. My only complaint is I still do not know what caused the problem and when it was finally resolved . We left after a little less than an hour without the lights not knowing if they ever came back on . Hopefully they did get the power restored !
Food was very good. Unfortunately they had a power cut and there was no electricity. Very apologetic and out of their control. Had to leave without paying as no power to credit card machine.
My husband took me fir my recent birthday. I had a fabulous time we had a drink in the Knights bar before our meal the young man who served us was very knowledgeable and polite. Then downstairs for our meal which was excellent fir our Bain we both had the beef from the trolly I have never had such tasty and tender meat
Lovely restaurant. Service and food excellent. A real experience !!
My daughter and I had lunch here for my birthday. We chose the lamb which was carved from the trolley. Very tasty with mint sauce and red currant jelly. Roast potatoes and green vegetable were also delicious.
I was given a free dessert for my birthday. Raspberry sorbet. No nice. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and great service.
