Simpson's In The Strand
Guests can also enjoy classic cocktails in the bar at Simpson’s in the Strand, an art deco cocktail lounge located on the first floor. It is the perfect place to enjoy either a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner aperitif.
I have eaten hear on a good number of occasions over the past few years. Recently, probably during the course of the last 10 or 12 months the service level in the restaurant has not been great. Certainly not at the standard it was preceding this period.
Individual staff members are still good, some excellent - however these individuals are spread thinner now. I also get the feeling the staff numbers are down, leading to long delays, especially around getting the bill and paying.
Either the staff numbers, or the management or the training needs to improve, or perhaps, more likely, all of these.
Simpson's has always stood apart for us with it's personal, friendly and polished front of house. This is now not the case.
There are other restaurants very close by offering similar fare - perhaps it's time to give them a visit?
The best Roast Beef and Beef Wellington in the world!
This dining experience was simply the best
The food was exceptional
the service was exceptional
the on ambiance was exceptional
yes you could argue it’s expensive but worth every penny, one of my guests is an exbutcher and his remarks were he had never had such a good piece of beef, now that speaks volumes!
I will be back
This is a lovely restaurant especially for a special occasions. The food is good, the ambience is fantastic. Service is exceptional, we will certainly book again when in London again.
Our waiter was charming, but disappeared for long stretches. I ordered a steak. It was tough, overdone, small and COLD!
three of us went for my daughters graduation and we turned up 25 mins early but it was no bother they sat us down streight away. staff were exceptionally good two of us chose starters and then all had the roast . two had beef and one the turkey. the foood was very good the beef was fantastic and my daughter said it was the best turkey she had ever had. If you are thinking of giving it a try jus do it you wont be dissapointed
What a wonderful place to have a meal! From the minute we entered, the service was friendly and efficient. It is lovely to be greeted with smiles. I particularly want to mention the wine waiter who helped me choose a perfect glass of wine to compliment the roast gammon I was having. The food is tasty and doesn't fall into the trap of having extras for the sake of it.
This was my third time to this timeless classic. Each time has been an unforgettable experience. Their roast beef carved table side is always melt-in-your-mouth delicious. You’re mad as a hatter if you don’t order the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The service is attentive but not intrusive.
Simpson’s is my absolute favorite go-to each time I’m in London.
Superb service in a luxurious setting. We will return.
The restaurant and staff are fabulous, we had the carvery beef & turkey meat which was very nice but the vegetables accompanying the turkey were under cooked and the roast potatoes over cooked. The deserts were rather underwhelming and left us disappointed at the end of the meal. We were not rushed and the pianist was excellent, overall we had a lovely time but felt it could have been a better experience if the food was of a higher standard.
Beef Wellington and the Sirloin Steak is a must! Will go back for more! Followed the review of @londondelica on Instagram to come eat here and was not disappointed!
absolutely excellent in every respect, the service exemplary and the food wonderful. Wine list extensive and catered for all tastes.
Excelente comida y servicio
El rosted beef espectacular y también los ostiones
Not what it used to be in terms of service. Quite informal and toned down, it used to have the feel of an exclusive club. However perhaps that’s modernity. The food was acceptable. The beef was cooked to perfection. The wine was lacklustre, despite being over £70 a bottle. The decor was a bit off with skewed lampshades and bulbs not working. A bit reminiscent of a third rate pub in some aspects, but yet still had an opulent old fashioned feel. I would go again, but I’d be embarrassed to recommend it to anyone discerning.
We had a dreadful experience. The service was slow and unprofessional. My food was cold. It is a very noisy restaurant due to the acoustics and there was an awful singer screeching on the piano - with a microphone. It was so disappointing. We went for a birthday celebration and felt we were eating in the middle of a department store. I hated every minute.
Try it you won’t be disappointed ....... especially the venison
Dining at Simpsons was a big disappointment. The restaurant appears to have become a theme park for "Traditional English Cuisine". The carvery was of a similar standard to a good Pub but expensive at £42 per head. The Shepherds Pie was very poor with the lamb on top so solid it could not be cut up. The wine is very expensive for what it is. Service was poor and completely thrown by the fact that we did not wish to order immediately. Their solution was to ignore us. I would leave this venue to tourists who know no better.
A first class choice for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. The service in particular was exceptional and made the occasion memorable.
This visit to Simpson’s was a pre Christmas treat for my father in law and he thoroughly enjoyed. The food was excellent. Between us we had the parfait and crab to start and my wife thought that the crab was probably the best she had eaten. My father in law and I had the parfait which also was very enjoyable and very generous in size. The mains consisted of the Beef from the trolley, the venison and the fish and chips. All three meals again were excellent and would be more than happy to order them again.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. They take pride in serving their diners.
To finish our meal we enjoyed a whisky in Knights Bar and once again the staff were excellent. No visit to Simpson’s should be without either a pre or post meal drink here as this adds to the overall enjoyment.
My wife and I have dined/lunched here on several occasions, this time we went with three other couples who had not been before. It was unanimous that this was an unforgettable experience especially since we were seated at Churchills table.
Food great, surroundings excellent, BUT, booth table is a bit tight for four men. Would prefer round table next time.
My monkfish was dry as dust. The steak tartare was flavourless. It was awful. Pretty room.
Outstanding roast beef
Never fails to impress
and excellent waiting staff
We were there on Sunday evening at 7.30 with friends and were disappointed this time as when we got there everything was perfect we had lovely starter then main course ( during our main course a lady came up to us and said she would be looking after us now ) ....... but that was last we saw of her we were not offered dessert or tea/coffee we waited a half hour and asked someone for our bill they came bk with 4 pieces of fudge we paid and left
Completely different experience to last time we were there very dissapointed
We try and go to Simpson's once a month, it never fails to hit all the buttons, you won't find better roast beef
Lovely restaurant. Perfect for a special occasion. Possibly the most expensive Sunday roast I’ve had in my life but you do get what you pay for. We ran out of time for the table and our bill was transferred upstairs to the bar without fuss. Will be back.
We like it for Sunday lunch. Probably the best roast beef in London and maybe the entire UK. I haven’t tried every restaurant but I’ve tried enough to know that Simpson’s is superb in every way. Chop house atmosphere as chop houses used to be, and service the same. An all-round treat
Our experience on Sunday was spoiled because of the totally unnecessary pianist, made worse by her attempt at singing. You could not carry on a conversation because everyone had to raise their voices to be heard above her. We had 15 minutes of peace when she had a break. There was a lively atmosphere as it was busy, so why spoil it for everyone.
Nice traditional venue. Friendly, attentive staff. Starters good. Mains underwhelming. Didnt bother with dessert/coffee.
Great food in a traditional English Resteraunt - top class
The cod was absolutely delicious.
Birthday get together. We opted for the Beef from the carving trolly the meat was cooked as it should be and melted in the mouth.
The service was good but despite being asked if we had attended before (which my husband & I have) our guest hadn’t, instead of the waiter addressing them & telling them the history etc he addressed me which was a shame as it was busy and they struggled to hear him.
We opted for no desert but as we where celebrating 3birthdays ice cream was presented with birthday wishes decorating it. This was a lovely touch - thank you
We can highly recommend Simpson’s.
A British institution which is all you expect. Make sure you have the roast. It’s the reason you go to Simpson’s and you won’t be disappointed.
Lovely food and location. Service was also excellent. I had the banana champagne 🥂 Cocktail which was marvellous. The baked Alaska was also lovely 😊.
Was my first time in this beautiful restaurant. The food was fabulous the service also. Thanks.
My partner and I ordered the 38 day aged Sirloin steak and the duck breast and we were blown away by the intensity of the flavours. The staff was very attentive and helpful and we really enjoyed the live music.
Excellent as ever ! Took my daughter’s for the first time both very impressed, looking forward to our next visit ( Sam the waiter was great )
The meal was very good, the roast beef was particularly good. It was served with roast potatoes, cabbage and a Yorkshire pudding. it was very well cooked. a good bottle of red to wash it down.
My friend and I really enjoyed our first experience at Simpson's. The food was delicious and very british, the staff was attentive and the venue is great and old-fashioned (in a positive way!). If you want to travel back in time that's the place to go! I recommend it for a special occasion as it's quite expensive but it's worth the experience.
Simple English food at its very best. Steak and kidney pie flavours, pastry, tenderness faultless. Duck terrine wonderful texture and flavours. Service and ambience excellent. It doesn’t get better.
Excellence is not cooking the most spectacular dish once. It’s about cooking the same dish every day faultlessly and perfectly. Well done.
