one of my favourite places in london. i visit at every opportunity. loud, boisterous, relaxed, fun, healthy portions of traditional english food. like stepping back in time.
Old school charm and traditional grub washed down with an ale or two. No frills, non-gastronomic dining, served with a large side of charming British hospitality. Simply wonderful...sausage and all
Warm smiling faces on arrival and quickly shown to our table. Good menu and keenly priced. Great food - chump chops are a must together with bubble and squeak and braised onions followed by their famous stewed cheese dessert. A little gem in the City.
Absolutely! We brought a friend with us who had never been... I have brought two groups there. I think it's fantastic.
Great food and well kept beer - A City institution that always delivers.
Superb ambiance. Has been providing a very similar vibe for the last 20 years and a staple for a reunion. Friendly staff, food no nonsense and idiosyncratic seating all adds to the charm
A City classic surviving better than many... I can just fit my beer belly between the benches and the tables. When I can't I'll retire
Late sitting, and felt a little rushed. Clearing tables and resetting loudly around us. Food was good, only had a main as felt a little rushed. I can imagine it's a better atmosphere before 2pm
A City classic, brilliant school dinners ! Always busy great staff and good English fare
Annual pilgrimage for a group of retirees. As always good wholesome food served by friendly staff. We will be back next year god willing.
Just what the doctor ordered!
Always a great welcome from the team and first class service. Settled in for all 3 courses and absolutely delicious.
Looking forward to next visit soon.
This was not up to the usual standard. I always look forward to my visit to Simpsons
But. It seems to not come up to the standard I have always experienced.
The food was very average, I get my drinks downstairs because they do not provide
What I want upstairs. That standard of food and portions were not what I usually
Experience and the coffee was cold. Very disappionted this time around.
This restaurant has not changed in ambience for centuries. The food is delicious and the service is fun and excellent. If you wish to travel back in time and eat traditional English dishes you are in heaven.
Another first class luncheon with a friend. Simpson's Tavern has become one of my go to places from lunch. I'll be back again, quite soon!!
A genuine City institution. Thankfully it's still with us.
Always enjoy going here but this was my first time for breakfast. Can't argue about the food (fry up) itself or the service which was excellent but it is a lot quieter in the morning. We went on a Friday and we were the only people in the dining room which is a massive contrast to the times I have been for lunch where the atmosphere is excellent. Anyway, if you need a place for breakfast and you are in the vicinity then it's a great option.
The food was excellent and the service was very good. The phrase would you like a sausage with that made everyone laugh.
A really nice place with old pub food
Lovely, old school pub. Staff are very funny and friendly. Food was delicious with big portions. Was quiet at start of lunch but got very busy around 1. Make sure you book if you want a table
Just very good, solid British pub food with all the needed trimmings:Steak and Real Ale pie, Roast beef and Yorkies, Bubble and Squeak, Cumberland sausage ... delish!
Leaving perfect rating as apology for not making my reservation. I'm sure if would have been perfect anyway.
Superb food, wonderful old-school atmosphere, friendly staff.
Simpsons never fails in its service and food. An institution. The stewed cheese is a must.
Lunchtime visit to this historic restaurant. However, we had to share a small booth with three very loud (and swearing) business men who made little space for us to settle. This was particularly annoying as two other booths were vacant when we arrived. Combined these events spoiled our experience entirely. That said the waiting staff were very friendly and the food was hearty fair indeed, so we would return, but only on the proviso that our party would be sized to warrant a booth to ourselves.
Excellent food and service!
Well done the Tavern!
Tremendous steak and kidney pie and chips
Older than the United States of America, Simpson’s Tavern is a hidden gem in the heart of the city of London. Mix with Bankers and Highwaymen. You almost expect to bump into Edmund Blackadder and be served some of Mrs Miggens’ pies.
Bloody good English grub!
If you like traditional English fare at affordable prices in an historic City of London location served by friendly staff in a quirky old school atmosphere, this is the place for you. I've been eating here for years and always enjoy the experience with friends. Why not also take in The Jamaica Inn and/or The George & Dragon for additional liquid refreshment which are just next door to the restaurant.
I have visited Simpson’s many times it was very quiet service was timely and the waiter attentive
Wine was ok food disappointing liver and bacon. Was tough and bubble and sweat overdone starters were ok we all had prawn cocktail
The lunch was cheerful as old friends reunion
Very friendly staff upstairs. Straightforward and freshly cooked British food. And Sharpes beer. Love it.
A dependable classic. Convivial, hospitable, fun, atmospheric and always delicious.
Great sausage!and loved the dining experience
It's not fine dining, but if you want good hearty pub food and wine or beer and don't mind sharing a table (Oktoberfest-style) then it's a nice place to be
Typical English fare, served in an authentic Dickensian environment with great service.
Excellent service, nice atmosphere in this pub. Only one vegetarian main option but you don't go here for that! A nice hearty veggie pie would have been a nice alternative option (maybe that's on a winter menu though) but all of the food was delicious!
Hilarious waiter who was very knowledgeable about meat and sausage traditions!! ;)
A fun old time pub with great food and brilliant service!
I take every opportunity to lunch at Simpsons Tavern - with friends, family, business colleagues. The food and service never fail - tasty, satisfying portion very well cooked, fun service, great atmosphere - even if Nigel Farage also eats there.
A great venue which is hidden away in the heart of the city.
Staff always friendly and like a joke and lots if friendly banter.
Food always excellent and good value for money.
My guest was a no-show - but the staff were very nice to me and even had a chat with me. I'm a regular and will continue to be.
Staff seemed very busy when we arrived but we were made to feel very welcome. There was a short wait in a fairly cramped area on the first floor while dishes were being served to others but very soon we were shown to a table and were perusing the menu. The table was already occupied by two others but the arrangement seemed to give a nice ambience just as you might expect in a typical Parisian bar/restaurant. To complete the London 'experience' though, a pianist played traditional melodies. Many dishes are served with a 'traditional' sausage and you can also sample lager and ale produced for Simpsons. We had a very good lunch at Simpson's and would definitely return for more.
Simpsons has great character both in respect of the building itself and the staff. It offers good old fashioned service spiced with some humour and excellent food. My favourite main is the Edwardian pork chop which never ceases to please. They are large, succulent and tender.
I would highly recommend Simpsons for a good meal with plenty of atmosphere.
