Sinigual - NY

Great until it got very noisy.
Waitress was horrible. Waited very long to be served. Did not even receive water until we asked. Ordered the sampler platter and three combos. The 3 combos (2 enchiladas and 2 carnitas) came out but we never saw the sampler platter. The food was barely mediocre and we felt ignored the entire time that we were there. I am very disappointed as I had high hopes for this place.
Service was awful, would have ordered more drinks if it didnt take 30 minutes to get each one
I've eaten at Sinigual a few times and this time might be the last. The food is over-priced, at over $20 for the cheapest meal on the menu, a chicken fajita, which is fine but nothing special. The house-margherita tastes fine, but is low strength. And while the service is generally good, on this occasion the waitress/server was too abrupt, and seemed rather disinterested in showing any real service. On asking her about a surcharge which was added to the bill, our server said "oh, it's a local business surcharge, it's written on the menu" and then handed us the (big) menu without taking a moment to help us find this small print ... even the guy who brought our food was abrupt. When he brought the wrong meal for one of our party, he simply said, "I don't take the order, this is what the kitchen gave me," instead of saying "oh, sorry, I'll check and get back to you." Honestly, it's not hard, and for the prices they charge, they should do better. Boo.
We were very disappointed. So many great choices in NYC unfortunately this is not one of them. Service was very slow, we had long waits in between ordering our drinks and receiving them with both our first orders and the second. The bar did not appear to be backed up which is the explanation we were given. Our server was polite but seemed to have an overload of tables so was not very attentive. Our food arrived hot and in a reasonable amount of time. Portions were large however we all agreed it was pretty bland.
As always, I had a wonderful dining experience at Sinigual. This has always been my place to go to when I want good Mexican cuisine. The service is always great and the guacamole served tableside has always been my favorite.
We didn’t love our server. He barely came to check on us and we were a party of 11. It was odd that we had to keep calling him for everything
Hosted a corporate social here and the atmosphere was nice and the staff were attentive. The noise level was high, but that is to be expected. Overall, great experience!
Am a frequent customer, going there pretty much every week. This time, One order of food was prepared wrong, sent back - came out correct - but half the usual portion.
Server was missing the whole night, working on larger parties. Had to pour wine ourselves, and never had our water glasses refilled. This half portion of food was left over and pretty much untouched, as we could never find the server.
When the bill came and we complained, Manager was nasty and unapologetic.
I don't need this crap. Food and drink there is expensive PLUS they add a mandatory service charge, not part of the tip.
When I tried to explain to the manager that we are frequent customers and my company is a large employer in the area and we host events at Sinigual, he said he didn't care. RUDE and I will NOT be back. I just nixed a planned event there for my company for Cinco de Mayo.
It's an energetic spot with diverse seating options in a central location. That is about as much as I can say positively. The menu is stacked with rudiments and the service is inefficient and without frills. The most I would return for is drinks and the general atmosphere.
I went with a group of 7 everyone's appetizers and entries come out in a timely fashion and were hot . Margaritas were delicious. The place was packed and every thing seemed to run very smoothly. we definitely recommend to friends
Non-tasting food that was expensive.
Its a good place for Yucatan inspired food. The guacamole is smooth and silk, and the enchiladas have good flavor to them. The service could use a little work, water glasses weren't filled, was not asked if we needed anything, small things that make an experience so much better. If you seat near the bar it can get loud, and if you sit at the back it can get hot. Make sure to watch your bill they put in a surcharge, and even though the sign outside said happy hour, we were charge for a full price on our drinks.
Excellent food and service. High end and authentic cuisine. Great for foodies, friends, and families. Booths are too tight, but tables are great.
Food was average, especially for the price. Drinks were on the sweet side. Service was good even though they were very busy. The fajitas were average and the table-side guacamole was good but nothing special.
They added 5 drinks to my bill that we did not order. When I noticed the error after leaving, they refused to take the charges off. Had to call my credit card company to dispute the charges.
Great ambiance , great food!
Very good, there was a bit of a mix up with the food butttttttttt it was solved and we enjoyed our night with great food and music!
Valentines prefix was delicious and a great value!
This is our go-to place when we are "stuck" at Grand Central for too long. Its a few blocks away and worth the walk. The food is outstanding, fresh, and delicious. They have a great menu and a nice drink menu to compliment the food.
Maybe for lunch. Food was good, kinda expensive for what we ordered. I asked for a substitute for veggies, plate came, same veggies. The tables are too close together, I could barely fit into my table (I'm 5'3 - 130lbs). This was not a good restaurant for V-day, nope. Terrible.
I made reservations and was placed in a area, where people that walked in without reservation were sat. I was disappointed because the area was decorated beautifully but I didn’t get to experience. I asked to be reseated because the area wasn’t packed and they denied me. The food was great but I wanted to get more out of my dollar.
Fabulous meal, great service - love the music and ambiance and delicious food!
Great service and nice bar.
I met a very good friend for dinner. She was told this restaurant was great. We were seated right away. We asked for happy hour margaritas ($5), but we were told they were only available @ the bar? House margaritas were $13. Waiter told us if that's what we wanted, we could be seated at the bar. We told him no we wanted to eat too. Then he forgot about us...Finally came back and took our orders. Food was not good. I could actually taste that it had been frozen/reheated. So disappointed. Not recommended. I will not be back.
Great food, reasonable price - would go again
Always the best place to send my executives for the best food and drinks! And Guacamole! Excellent service as well.
The service was great but the fajitas weren’t even sizzling when they came out. And sure enough, they weren’t hot. The vegetable fajita was the worst I’ve seen. Potatoes, crunchy green beans, and asparagus stalks (not even tops!) were the main ingredients with a couple of red peppers thrown in. It was very disappointing.
Food was ok. Service was slow, definitely not attentive. Can find Much better Mexican for the price in NYC.
Really disappointed, have been here many times, food good, and really like the margaritas. Came during happy hour ordered the house margarita, and was discouraged, as the waiter said he was Mexican and wouldn’t recommend. Why we agreed not sure as we really like the house, but when the bill came 2 drinks, rather than $5 per were $15 per for $30, $20 more than the house. Disappointed as we like Sinigual but if you need to be on guard when trying to just have a nice meal and drinks, too much work. Really disappointed.
Food quality/quality has changed. This was a favorite place to go with friends. It's not what I remember.
Ally was a doll. Sweet and accommodating. Music and ambiance was good, not too loud. Food was tasty. Service was great. I would highly recommend Sinigual and Ally as your server to friends and family.
Great find! Located near Grand Central station this American Mexican restaurant is packed with flavorful food and warm ambiance. The menu is very flexible. You can select an entree or choose to create your own 2 or 3 item plate. The carnitas entree and taco were amazing and the sweet corn cake was delicious. Don’t skip the Cadillac margarita; it was so find. Definitely worth eating there again!
Great ambiance, amazing service, and margarita was nice. Food was okay - wouldn’t mind going back but wouldn’t go out of my way
Great entrees, great guacamole. Yes it was a bit hard to talk to my friends at my table due to the noise level, but that also means that it is an exciting place with lots of energy. Good service as well.
My gin martini, though, was not that good.....too much vermouth.
Excellent service, server was very personable and food was delicious.
