Finish off with an ingenious, perfectly prepared cocktail, from old school classics to new infusions and flavours, mixed, merged, shaken and stirred - just for you! And before we forget, did we mention the unrivalled atmosphere and unparalleled acoustic live music?
Sadly the grill on the market closed a couple of weeks ago but was still taking bookings via OpenTable ...! It’s now been sorted, but can really recommend Hix on the opposite side of the market as an alternative ..!!
Lovely venue. Great bar area located at the front for drinks and nibbles (with seating) and restaurant at the back..secluded, personal and intimate. Staff was highly attentive, food was great in delivery, presentation and portion size. Really pleasant dining experience.
Mussels were the hit of the day, though wish there had been more sauce to mop up at the end.
Cocktails were fab for happy hour.
Steak was perfect.
Am hurrying back ASAP.
Go early if you want oysters, they had practically sold out by 6pm on Saturday. So we didn’t get to try them.
This was the second time I have eaten here and again enjoyed a very good meal. The service was excellent and with the 40% deal off the a la carte menu meant we got very good value for good quality food. We will definitely return here again.
Food was good unfortunately the whole meal was let down by the service. The waiting staff kept using a large party as an excuse to why our food was delayed (even though that wasn't). The waiter wasn't attentive and literally just kept mentioning the party. We weren't offered dessert and we left waiting for 45 minutes to which I had to get the bill. I spoke to the head waiter and he could get no waiter to finish the bill. I'm not going back.
The food just isn’t that good for the price.
Good service, food good but pricey if you go with the Steaks.
Very good food and drink, reasonably priced. would comer back again.
Our waiter was friendly and attentive
The best calamari I have tasted and I'm not a usual fan of calamari.
Each thing we ordered has so much flavor.
Service not the best but overall experience was good. Steak wasn't the softest but perhaps down to my choice. Other food was great.
Pleasant, helpful staff and good standard steaks and sides with a relaxing atmosphere in a comfortable, spacious room - all good
Gave us a private booth - very nice outing
Last minute booking but fantastic night. Great food, fantastic service and brilliant live music.
Good food (excellent value with deal) good atmosphere and choice. Really enjoyed - will return
Excellent service from start to finish: very knowledgeable, courteous and professional service staff, overall but also in management of our request for some changes.
Great assistance with wine selection (fab Roja, light and fruity yet with depth).
Willing accommodation to substitute meat fajita for vegetable for our vegetarian guest. She said it was fabulous.
Sourdough toast delish!
The meat: Had to send back first ribeye as over cooked vs medium (as requested). 2nd order very good, if not a bit under done. Australian beef burger seriously undercooked first time round. Put it back on the grill and was better.
All agreed that chips were delish!
Strongly agree with someone else’s review of the sticky toffee pudding: it was excellent!
Spacious casual comfortable ambience (located in Smithfield’s meat packing district).
Wash rooms spacious and very clean.
Had great birthday dinner and with 40% off good value for money
Only let down was they only had 1 potion of mushrooms left
Both the food and service was impeccable but didn't get the 20% off. Great cocktails to start the evening and although the restaurant was exceptionally busy, staff were gracious where we had to wait.
Good restaurant for a good steak!
We visited Grill on the Market last year on and it was great - food and service! So we were really looking forward to coming again.
We on the same day of the week - Saturday night a - food was still good but service was disappointing. It's increased popularity seems to have become it's downfall.
The waiters were clearly stressed and this along with the frantic atmosphere (constant spillages and cutlery being dropped) affected us.
We booked well in advance for 5 people so I was disappointed when we were also squashed onto a booth at the back that really was for 4 people. Despite trying to highlight my dissatisfaction to this we weren't offered an alternative.
My dad as a Coeliac had only 2 options for starter - Oyster or Corn, that was disappointing.
Overall the food was great, but really that came down to well cooked, good quality, expensive steak cuts.
We shared the Thai fish cakes and the squid starters which were adequately cooked but not amazing. Our two steaks were fine but a little over cooked - excellent skin in chips were the best thing! Food is good value at 40% discount but I would not pay full price. Waiter insisted I leave a credit card at the bar for drinks and despite being asked to transfer them to the table, obviously forgot. I didn’t realise until I got home and had to then return to collect my card. No apology was given, and I had to wait whilst the bar staff messed around cleaning up before it was finally returned. I asked for the service charge to be removed from my original meal, which was done grudgingly. They then “lost” the proof of purchase slip I had given them and spent another long period of time looking for it. According to the female manageress, they do not transfer bills from the bar... which seems very odd to me! Would not return!
The majority of the food was of an excellent quality, chips appeared to be freshly peeled by hand not bought. The lobster was beautifully steamed although I didn’t get a choice nor did they have the correct utensils for the lobster. The place itself was lovely, rustic and dimly lit, although there was a musician fading in and out that was just sort of muffled .. would have worked well maybe if the sound system was better ? Otherwise it was just a little disruptive.
Good food good people and great atmosphere... one of the best place in London
Went there on Friday evening with our kids. The initial waiter was excellent, gave us a warm welcome and walked us through the menu while joking around with the kids.
Starters and kids' order came together as promised and the food was delicious so we were eagerly awaiting our main. Following the recommendation of our waiter we went for the 1kg Tomahawk to share and were convinced to take it medium (rather than medium rare as usual) assuring us that with such a big steak the middle will still be nice and juicy.
Our waiter's shift ended and he even came by to say goodbye and wish us happy Easter, which was a nice gesture.
As the kids were as usual taking their time to work through their food, we were left unattended for a bit before starter plates were finally cleared . The new waiter then even wanted to bring us the dessert menu right away, so we had to point out we were actually still waiting for our main course.
The steak finally arrived and we were really excited to dig into it and by that point quite hungry . By that time we already spent over 1h in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the steak was an utter disappointment, nothing like medium and properly well done with the slices in the middle showing just remaining pink areas. Took two bites and simply didn't enjoy it at all and wouldn't dare to even try the more well done areas. With the kids long done by then and getting impatient we decided to nevertheless point out that the steak is not living up to expectations. Manager came, had a look and apologized for it. He then took charge and we were given a new steak, which had to be prepared from scratch and was of excellent quality and flavor. He checked in several times to make sure all was up to par, which it certainly was. Despite the initial let down, we were very pleased with the way this was handled and overall ended up having a great meal, even though it took us much longer than we wanted.
The steak looked amazing before it was cooked, unfortunately it was too charred after being cooked which spoiled the experience.
Good food, great service - As always - Salmon was notable
A nice restaurant with friendly staff. However the table which we were sat out didn’t have a light bulb in the light right above. Which was a shame as it was a tad dim and didn’t give much of an ambiance for our table.
For starters we had the bread with garlic, which wasn’t quite as we’d expected. Half a bulb of raw garlic to rub on our bread. I wasn’t too impressed to be honest. However our starters were very tasty as was the main course. The steaks are excellent with great flavour and the mash was brilliant!
Wine is a decent price as well.
Very good atmosphere and the 40% discount on the new menu is excellent value. The service left a bit to be desired - they seemed short handed given how busy it was but the staff were very friendly. great restaurant, would recommend
Was charged for double amount of food, they changed the bill when we told them but they should have offered a drink on the house or something.
Arrived early at the venue, very accommodating and polite front door hosts. Were told however when we sat down that we had to order Happy Hour cocktails at the bar which had to be paid for there and could not order from the table which was just awkward. Food was good arrived promptly and was worth the price so no complaints there. However we asked 3 different waiters for sauces for the table and one of the times was when we actually had the food brought to the table, but fell on deaf ears (It was not even that busy when we were there). 4th waiter eventually brought the sauces once the meal was finished so pretty pointless. Otherwise a fairly nice place with a good grill selection. Would visit again, just hope for better service.
I went for a birthday on a 40% off offer. The service was exceptional, the staff really went over and above to ensure that we understood the menu, were comfortable and generally had a lovely evening.
The food was very tasty and good value, although I think perhaps a little over priced had I not have had the 40% off offer.
I’ve been a few times midweek and with the live music it’s really atmospheric with great cocktails. I went on a Saturday and it wasn’t exactly buzzy although as I was with elderly parents it fitted the bill for us fine. Had I been wanting a lively London meal with mates I would have found it a bit too quiet. I’d definitely recommend for food and drinks midweek, a great date location for a Thursday eve...
Food and staff was amazing. Only negative is that the restaurant is very loud and can be a struggle to have a conversation.
Good experience for everyday food.
Food was good but they ran out of a lot of things hence limited menu
Went for Valentines. Would say that you definitely get what you pay for. Lovely restaurant. Lovely staff. Lovely food. Would go again.
This was the second visit to The Grill on the Market in the space of two week, this was brought to my attention through work. I enjoyed the food so much I decided to take my wife and we were not disappointed. Great food for a good price
We enjoyed the two for one cocktails in the bar which are on selected cocktails between the hours of 5-7pm. The staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the meal we had starters of calamari and satay chicken and shared double t' bone that was delicious pre cut and served on a wooden plater. We had the January 50% offer which made the evening reasonable value.
