Got the truffle tagliatelle, initally the taste was prominent but after a few bites the taste of truffle had deceased. Also at £16 i would expect a little truffle oil. Venue was very nice with seating inside for the restaurant and seating outside for the bar, I would definitely visit again!
It was pretty quiet on a Monday lunchtime. The food was excellent but the service was slow.
Great food and friendly staff, who were very happy with us taking quite a while to order whilst everyone in our group arrived. Also kindly let us stay at the table for quite a while to relax after eating too - thank you !
Was a great location and space but whole experience was a bit of a let down. We were given a table not really suitable for our party and asked to move which was met with obstruction. We were warned we were on a table ‘out of sight’ and we soon realised this was a service black spot. We asked for bread and olives before our food arrived which arrived with the food. Most of the table ordered salad which said it had egg and new potatoes but there was none. When we questioned this the waiter argued, eventually when everyone had finished we were presented with a plate of potatoes and eggs! We also had to fetch our own water! This was a business lunch and we were all unimpressed. We were not offered any money off the bill, despite the salad issues.
Haven't been to Smith's Bar & Grill before, but i was meeting a friend for a business lunch in the area so picked out a suitable venue based on OpenTable reviews. It was a decently pleasant meal. The restaurant is in a great location next to the canal at Paddington basin. Ambience is light and airy, and not too loud, even when busy.
I was very unhappy that I had been promised a 20 percent discount if I signed up only to be told this had to be claimed before sitting down.
I do not think this is fair the food however was excellent
Great location but run down inside. All the furniture is very grubby. Over large armchairs meant no one could sit comfortably round the table. Needs some money spending on it. Food ok but nothing special. Disappointing.
This is a super place, in a great location. We had a fab table. We had booked for the special offer of 3 courses for £16. However, we were told we were too late for this as it ends at 6:30 (the time our booking was for). The waiter could see my disappointment and then arranged to take money off the overall bill. So although it was a bit disappointing, the waiter tried really hard to sort it.
Service was slow, especially for drinks, but it was super busy in there.
We all had a fab time anyway and will deffo go back.
Great location close to Canal, other venues and Paddington Station. The venue has ample inside and outside seating without feeling crowded. Good choice of menu and drinks, topped with friendly service.
Very nice venue, good indoor and outdoor settings. High quality decor, furniture, bathrooms etc.
Music 🎵 levels and choice were reasonable for dining.
Staff were polite and attentive.
Prices were reasonable for central London.
Nice bar near the canal.
Good food. Wait staff was very good.
Disappointed that I made a reservation and I sit at the bar and was told by the barman that only snacks/bar food was possible. It’s too busy at the bar to serve food.
Ok. Then suggest they remove that option in OpenTable.
We had the 3 course set menu. The food was lovely and great value. The location is amazing. We will look to go back for a bottomless brunch soon
Our first time at this venue and we will be back. The service was particularly good, and always with a smile.
I booked bottomless brunch and the food options were great- the only problem was that 2 people in our group of 12 did not want to participate in the bottomless brunch but this was unfortunately not allowed. Smith's bar and grill manager have a rule that everyone on the table has to pay for bottomless brunch otherwise no-one can book it which I felt was unfair.
Visiting Smiths for an early Mother’s Day treat and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waiter and the Manager both took care of us very well. The food was good. Two of us had pate with brioche, however had to ask for chutney, which I thought was a little odd? But, once sorted, very enjoyable. My daughter had the fresh calamari, which was also good, but she felt one piece was a little undercooked. She mentioned this to the Manager and without any hesitation he changed it and replaced with a new dish. On the whole a good experience. Will go back.
Lovely place and great location . Food was good and service good
Good presentation of food 🍝 and it was delicious despite the soup 🥣being tepid. Excellent wine. 🍷. There was a very relaxed atmosphere with attentive staff. We will definitely be visiting again!😋
Went there for a business lunch. Nice food in a quiet setting.
Great staff. Attentive and professional. Good job guys. Food was good. Chuck steak was a little stringy.
I went with my brother; we had shared charcuterie plate to start which was better quality than what you would normally get. For mains we had had lamb chops and steak. Both were cooked exactly to order (medium rare) and tasted great.
Throughout the service was excellent and very attentive.
The bar was busy and buzzy, whilst the restaurant was quieter early on it soon filled up.
Overall great food, great service and good atmosphere and very handy for Paddington station.
I enjoyed the 2for1 cocktails.
The food was delicious.
What a lovely gem in paddington Basin. Great food and choice of drinks. Lovely atmosphere.. Good value for money. Good service. Definitely recommend.
Birthday lunch. Very attentive and also included a happy birthday message on my desert. Cannot fault the venue or staff. Lovely visit. Be back soon.
Was a pleasant place to eat. Nice location and the food was well prepared.
Overall a good experience.
The waiter was 'enthusiastic' with is wine pouring but noticeably less so when the second bottle had been ordered.
Service a bit slow
We had a lovely evening catching up with my friend.
The January offer of 50% off gave us the opportunity to order some wine we would not normally order, but the prices of the regular bottles were consistent with other central London places I go to.
The food was incredible and unique recipies, which made me feel extra special :) The roast veg one was something that every restaurant should have on their menu.
The service was beyond good. The two gentlemen that attended us were absolutely great.
I would come again for sure.
Poor service upon arrival. The host claimed not to find my Opentable reservation even after I showed them the confirmation in the app.
It took 10 mins to get my first drink 5 mins to get a glass of water. This is all in addition to having to wait 15 mins for seating with a reservation and plenty of empty tables. I will NEVER GO BACK and warn all others to stay away. They also do not know how to work the credit card machine appropriately.
as soon as we entered, there was a strong toilet smell.it lessened as we walked towards the restaurant are in the back. my chair was broken, had to change it myself.
the service was ok, my steak was tender enough but not very hot, even though I stressed that I don't like the cold taste of blood-rear steaks have to be hot in the middle.my friends ribs tasted lime they were cooked in advance and the microwaved.
the bill was quite expensive, £81, for a meal with no starters and 1 pudding and just 2 drinks.
and although the website is advertising 50% of the bill throughout January if you subscribe to their newsletter, it's trickier than that and it doesn't happen. when I asked why, all a got was someone who I presume was in a management position, although he was wearing street clothing, rudely arguing with me, blaming open table and not showing an ounce of understanding my point of view or saying sorry once.
Food was good, average but thought a bit overprices for what you get portion wise. Staff where attentive up to the point we had our main meals, then where forgotten. Service could be better
Good service, good value for the set lunch. Soup was too oily. Fish and chips was good. Could serve better bread.
Food was wonderful. Cute little place right around the corner from Paddington Station. Went for lunch but looks like a great option for brunch on Sundays
We chose Smiths due to the location and it was above average. I would go back in the future, but I won't be shouting from the rooftops about the place. Food was OK, service was decent - although someone did try and persuade me to drink cloudy beer from the bottom of the barrel. It looked like it had come out of the canal!
Lovely place, book online for 50% off Sunday roast. Lamb shoulder was divine
My partner and I booked for Sunday lunch. The barman looked at us twice when we walked in, turned his back and continued with his stock take (even after his colleague signalled to him to serve us). The toilets had surface water, enough to skid to and from the ladies cubicals then slip back up the stairs. The bartender seemed bemused that I would point this out to him. The waitress didn't understand our drinks order (twice!). The food was lukewarm/cold. Such a shame as I had highly recommended this place previously having dined here last Summer. Very disappointing. The only good thing was the red wine.
The roast dinners here are wonderful, as is the wine, though it took a bit of time to get a waiter’s attention when I wanted to order a glass of wine while I waited for my friend to arrive.
A lovely way to spend a late Sunday afternoon.
The front of the establishment and the restaurant feel quite different, and we felt surprised by the formality of the dining area. However, it was a nice setting. I personally felt the size and quality of the mains were not adequately reflected in the price. However, the charcuterie board was very nice and worth the money.
We were very impressed with Smiths. It's a great location, right by the canal, with a good choice of food and drinks. The service was excellent - fast, efficient and friendly. It is quite noisy though, so if you want to make conversation, request a table at the back, away from the bar.
We booked our reservation through OpenTable who unfortunately advertised a weekend brunch, which is in fact only available on Saturdays and not Sundays. Therefore we were quite disappointed when there was no brunch menu on the Sunday, on top of this the food arrived late for one of the people in the party. The restaurant did however offer some dishes from the brunch menu to help accommodate.
