Great location but the food was average for the price and the service was very slow.
I have thought long and hard about this review before posting as I know how hard times are for restaurants. However, there is a lot of competition and this is not somewhere I would return to. Service was friendly and food was not bad, but diners were sat with drinkers so if you wanted a relaxed evening it was impossible as the noise level was ridiculous, and we were sitting outside. This is a management issue, and they could easily separate diners from drinkers and make the whole experience more enjoyable. For what we had it was also very expensive.
Admittedly we didn't eat here in the end. Mainly due to the fact when I reserved, I requested an outside table. I then followed up with a phone call and was told this couldn't be done as it's on a first-serve basis. So, if there is availability, we can seat outside. I was surprised on arrival to see an outside table for six people with a reserved sign. I queried this and was told reservations are still not possible, and the table for six people was based on them guaranteeing a spend of £100 per head. It would seem even in these strange times, money talks and your average punter will always be put to the back of the queue. As someone who dines out regularly and lives in the area, I will not be returning to this establishment nor recommend.
Welcomed when arrived and shown to table. There was a variety of dishes to choose from. Very well priced. Delicious. Staff did not hover and we had a very enjoyable experience. Will definitely return.
Great experience. Staff was very polite and efficient, food was delicious and Happy HOur cocktails offer is a must try.
The cervixhe starter and the seared tuna steak were delicious.
Service was a bit slower than expected however understandable due to Covid restrictions.
Overall a great choice and would def go again.
I booked bottomless brunch for myself and some friends who were coming to London to visit. I booked 10 days in advance and ONE hour before my reservation, I received a call advising that they are not providing bottomless brunch anymore and that I could still come for lunch.
There was no apology or offer and an alternative arrangement for the inconvenience. The woman that called was incredibly rude.
My partner called back an insisted that we have some kind of compensation offer. An offer was made (poor offer in comparison but we would be left with no where to fo is we didn't accept).
When we go there, I wanted to confirm the offer which was completely retracted and changed to even less!
The service was dreadful and we were made to feel as though this mess was our fault. Staff constantly staring at us. The woman who we spoke to on the phone and appeared to be front of house ruined the experience for us.
The food was average - below average.
2 couples wanting to get together after lockdown.. great interesting menus . Happy friendly staff. Good prices / value for money. Very enjoyable.
Great service, lovely food and decent prices. Was so glad to be out eating again
Food was great but took 1hr 15 mins for fish and chips to come out.
Does what it says on the tin. Efficient service, good quality pleasant staff. For me as an oldy, it’s a bit noisy.
Was surprised that the restaurant was not busier on a Saturday evening. But we had a nice meal, wait staff was very friendly. Would definitely come back but maybe in the warmer weather to sit outside under umbrellas with heaters. That looked very nice!
Food and service were great. One of the best steaks I’ve had in the UK for a while. Just a tad on the noisy side as the bar was heaving with the post-work crowd.
We were the first people in at 12 so it was quite quiet initially but soon began to pick up. Staff obviously very attentive as we were the only ones there for a little while! Menu was fairly basic with straightforward dishes but the food was very well done and very tasty. Nice roomy surroundings and quiet enough to chat although can imagine it gets quite noisy when busy. Food not overly expensive but obviously drinks at London prices. My wife had a glass of Prosecco and tap water, I had a couple of beers. Food was classic burger and chips and an English breakfast with a side order of Halloumi, around £45 all in, including the service charge. Highly recommended all round.
I have had a number of nice lunch meals at Smiths (Paddington) however the Service was poor, mainly due to the Service. The starters that we ordered never arrived. The main course arrived, but one of our dinners ordered fish which was immediately taken away to be de-boned by the waiter (why did he not bring it de-boned?), so we all waited for the fish to come back (3 to 4 minutes) before we all started to eat with our food going cold. The good was good but the Service never got any better, shame.
Very quick pleasant service
The place is quiet for breakfast so it’s good to have a work discussion but the food is of low standards
Cheap set meal, decent sizes but not amazing. You walked into the restaurant and it smelt like fish. The starter was nice but nothing special. The fish and chips - Fish was old not fresh. Chips were good but they put some weird seasoning on it. It was a Sunday so it was quiet and I think if the main menu would of been nicer but if you're looking for a cheap meal.
Had a nice meal, and staff were very friendly. However, the bar is very popular for after work drinks and therefore it was very noisy and busy when arriving.
Sadly the waiters were overly keen within 5mins if sitting 3 different people approached asking if we wanted to order drinks. When we placed our order our the chips (x2) were cold and the other was hot then the steak was cold, all in all we were very disappointed. We then asked for a Mock-tail to which the waiter went off to get us a menu which had no non alcoholic beverages (aside from juices or coke) in the we decided to go somewhere else.
Lots of noise from the very busy bar and service was patchy, unfortunately
Booking was incorrect - we reserved 4 and they only held 3. Bavette was cold and therefore tough (event to cut with a steak knife).
Not the best of the day.
Food pretty poor to be honest, average at best. £71 a head a bit steep, wine over-priced for its quality for sure. The ambience is pretty good, although chairs uncomfortable for dining at.
Honestly the food was pretty good but the service and ambiance were poor. We literally saw the servers just hanging around when it was slow and we kept trying to make eye contact to order more. Would give 3 out of 5 stars.
Restaurant closed when we arrived (on time) "as it was quiet.."
We love Smith’s it is such a great place to meet with friends. The food is great as is the service. However, it is a bit pricey. Lovely atmos though. Well worth a visit for drinks or cocktails or both.
We had a fab get together and a lovely meal. Super food.
Nice evening good food and service we were early but it was getting busy when we left
Nice meeting spot for a client lunch, would use again.
Tuna starter was excellent - extremely well cooked. All food was very good. Service was friendly and professional. Great place.
Time to be served was too slow waited almost an hour to put our order in then the food quality wasn’t up to much great location but not much else to recommend it
I was looking for a nice place to eat to meet up with my brother. My brother was a little delayed, so I had to wait for a bit. The waitress was very nice but unfortunately not very attentive: I waited for a long time to be asked whether I wanted something to drink. I was left holding the wine menu for about 15 minutes (reading my book) before some chap came to ask me whether I wanted a drink (yes, but apparently wine is not a drink and/or I wasn't allowed to order this?), so he didn't want to take my order, confusion ensued. The wine, once ordered, stood at the bar for 10 minutes before the waitress brought it over. We were only offered nibbles when my brother arrived half an hour late (again I was made to feel like I needed a man there to be offered food and drink!). I specifically asked for my main course without cheese, I even got up to tell the waitress again as she put the order through - but when it finally arrived, there was cheese all over it. Food was mediocre at best and the service very slow and inattentive, which is even less understandable given the place was deserted. Absolutely poor considering the prices as well. not going back!
Breakfast is not a strong point - very average food and very slow service. Stick with lunch / dinner here.
Sunday roasts all came out cold even after we sent that back the first time! I have the vegetarian roast which didn't even come with roast potatoes and my friend who had the pork found it very dry. Our waitress was very nice and they did offer discount however the food did dampen the experience.
The place is lovely but they don’t make it shine. The table was poor with no candles no flowers not even a simple decorative object, at least to cover holes and scratches. The seats were very dirty. Food was ok but they presented it very poorly.
Nice located place, but gets very busy and loud as the evening progresses. Mains were nice, we ordered fish and chips, but had to ask for condiments as was given a small pot of ketchup to share ,that was squeezed from a catering jar and vinegar served in a jug. Desserts were okay, very small portions though.
This place has a bit of a monopoly at the moment, but seems a popular place for drinks after work, but would not recommend for dinner.
Toilets were not very clean, some un-flushed and blocked, soap dispensers were broken, not well looked after.
The noise level was very high and you would not be able to have a conversation if your table is close to the bar area. Also, the chairs are too low for the tables. We needed t least two extra cushions to sit on for comfortable access to our food. That said, the food itself was excellent.
No one to greet us. Stood around waiting then table pointed out. Asked for 4 drinks and tap water. 3 arrived. 4th one and water had to be asked for again. 3 food dishes arrived 4th 15mins later. No condiments offered. No one came near us except to take plates. Potatoes on the plate with butterfly chicken were rock hard and mine had black in several pieces. Were asked about food. We were given money off bill but it was equal to service charge so did not pay service charge and left. We had good time but will not return.
Great food, very reasonable prices for London and lovely staff. Nice place to have a working breakfast
Thought I was going to get the Open table special offer as booked. Waiter was keen we had the special steak, which was a T-bone. Two courses and one glass of wine each. When bill came it was over £ 140. The T-bones £ 38 each for I guess maybe a 8 ounce uncooked. Quite a shock from the expected £60 or so. On top of this waiter kept asking for a tip even though 12.5% service included. He then presented the card machine and even that asked for a gratuity on top. As this was a fairly quick business lunch pre-heathrow express train was a bit disappointed.
