Wonderful, no hassle service, waited patiently for my tardy group to arrive in dribs and drabs, great service, melt in the mouth venison.
Smithys was a good place to go for a realxing lunch. Food and service was very good. The location was great as tucked away down a side street - but near Kings Cross.
Service was slow and ill-informed. For a Sunday, it wasn't busy and lacked atmosphere in the main restaurant. Walking back through the bar made me wish we'd eaten in there instead as it was cosy and festive. The food was good but the service was so slow and difficult, it did affect the whole experience.
Consistently good for lunch.
The best thing about Smithy's is the location - really near Kings Cross, but also tucked away down a quiet cobbled lane. Food was decent, but I've had better meals in this price range. Service was pleasant, but when told the wine we ordered had run out, the waitress suggested another at twice the price! Er, I don't think so. Atmosphere good, so would go again if in the area, but maybe for drinks rather than food. Also, the music was a touch too loud and rather terrible. Simply Red, anyone?
I chose Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant as the venue for a get together with a lifelong friend that I hadn't seen in almost a year. The atmosphere was great, food was good and the service was okay. The only negative comment would be that it was disappointing to receive a menu that only listed 4 main courses to choose from given the apparent wide selection listed on Toptable. Aside from that a good experience in all and I would revisit this venue.
Good honest, home cooked food in cosey yet romantic surroundings. I would definitely return!
Considering the resturant was pretty empty service was a little slow. Still friendly though. everything else was fine.
Smithy's is a great find close to Kings Cross. Will definitely go back as the food was excellent quality and great value!
Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant was an excellent choice for lunch and is conveniently close to King's Cross station. The food is tasty and well-presented, the staff are efficient and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant and relaxing. If you are looking for an unstuffy restaurant with character, that serves good food, this is a sound choice - I plan to return.
Lovely little place, let down by the service on the night.
We were impressed with the atmosphere, quality of food and wine list at Smithy’s but were left disappointed with the service.
The staff seemed preoccupied and not at all attentive; when we ordered a bottle of wine we had to ask for a cooler which took 10 minutes to arrive on the table. We also weren’t offered desert or coffee even after the table next to us had ordered, received and eaten theirs – by this time we had decided to leave.
I took my Mum to Smithy's on her Birthday, mainly because we were going to The Shaw Theatre. It was a little tricky to find, and unfortunately the WHOLE restaurant is smoking - not very pleasant for non smokers trying to enjoy a nice meal. Service was good and prompt, and the food was excellent and good value for money. If you're looking for somewhere to eat before the Theatre and don't mind the smell of smoke while you eat, I would recommend!
Smithy's restaurant was a great choice for lunch. Food was good (octopus salad was excellent and pork and leek ausages were wholesome). Service was excellent as well. Attentive without being overly so. Will definitely be back
Smithys Wine Bar was slightly hard to find but worth the visit. Quite busy with the after work crowd on a Wednesday night but that didnt slow our service down at all. The roast chicken was nice if not a bit plain but my husband enjoyed his steak to no end as he finds it hard getting the perfect medium-rare.
The dessert menu was limited but nice. The chocolate cake was very moist and the apple crumble was nice although there could have been more ice cream with the both of them.
The thing that really impressed me about Smithy's was the ambience of the place. It had a real intimate and homely feel to it and whoever was in charge of fitting out the place needs a pat on tha back. The service was good, the food great and the price excellent!
Smithy's was definitely worth visiting. The menu was slightly limited but all the food we had was lovely. I had mushroom risotto; my friends had steak. The service was really friendly and attentive without hassling. The wine list had plenty of choice at a good range of prices. I'd definitely go again.
Smithy is a surprising good restaurant, that I would recommend if you nee to eat around Kings Cross lovely food.
Smithy's was a pleasant experience. No main course for vegetarian but good selection of other dishes. Would recommend Smithy's but quiet on a sunday.
Smithy's is a handy little wine bar tucked down a cobbled street fairly near to Kings Cross Thameslink (ideal if you use the station) . The food was pretty good all in all, and excellent value for money with the top-table deal, the place itself was pretty empty to be honest, and lacked atmosphere for this reason ,but this was probably because of the time we booked. The waiting staff were very pleasant, and kindly bought me a bowl olives when my husband was late. We will certainly go back.
Stellar service in an atmospheric setting. Hearty portions of well cooked food and a fair wine list/ We will certainly return.
Smithy's is a great place to meet up mid-week, good buzzing atmosphere, good food, great value with the Toptable offer and v handy for transport links. Well worth a visit.
I still love Smithy's - the atmos is hard to beat and the service always friendly, but I really mourn the discontinuation of their truly excellent burger. Come on guys, bring it back!
I'm also keeping an eye on the steady upward creep of the prices, for the food in particular.
I guess that's the price everyone will have to pay for the gentrification of King's Cross........
Still worth a visit though.
Smithys was great. We booked a table and the other couple we were meeting were 45 minutes and that was no problem at all. The wait staff were so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is great too. Food was pretty good. Good quality ingredients and well cooked.
I was seriously impressed by the quality of the meal. Myself and 2 friends ended up sharing everything as every dish sounded delicious and we couldn't decide. We were not disappointed by that decision. This place was a brilliant find and is now a firm favourite - I have already started to recommend Smithys to anyone who would care to listen. The only negative is the price, but it is no more than a typical London meal.
the service let the place down which was a real shame as everything else at Smithy's was spot on - good value and a great venue
Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant was easy to find and had a brilliant feel for a Tuesday night out. It was busy but not too noisy. The Toptable deal was good value, alhough beware that you can get caught out by side order costs and the fish was a little too oily for my taste.
Smithy's wine bar and restaurant was a lovely venue for dinner - very atmospheric and the food was amazing. I fully recommend the Top Table deal - two courses for £12.50 - especially when the same main course on the non-deal menu were £14 each! Highly recommended
Pleasantly surprised by the three choices on the set menu for each course; they were without a doubt the best of the bunch and the meal was delicious. I would highly recommend this quaint little bar-cum-restaurant to anyone :)
Food was good, place was very pleasant, service good despite there being loads of christmas lunches. Would go back.
Went Sat lunch and extremely quiet, but great food (esp ham hock terinne and banoffee pie) and went with an old friend so atmosphere wasn't an issue. Can imagine great when busy.
