What Insiders Are Saying
If you like fine dining done Soho-style, you’ll like Social Eating House. The low-lit room is a great place to relax with a drink and some food.
When we arrived (15 minutes before my booking) our table wasn't ready. So we decided to wait. However, our table was still not ready at the actual time of the booking and they kept us waiting and additional 25 minutes. As we booked quite late already, this was a bit annoying. Considering we were about to have a very expensive dinner too, it would have been nice to be offered a free drink to make the time waiting a bit more pleasant.
However, the food and service foe the rest of the evening was very good.
We came early and so the restaurant was quiet to begin with. Nice table in the corner. First time.
Food was really excellent - the flavour combinations exceptional. Servive is good in the sense that there are plenty of staff . But to be top notch it needs to have more people who look as if they care about the diners. We found it just a little cold and impersonal
The treck from the kitchen to the tables may make it difficult to have the food as hot as it should be.
Wine list didn't match the quality of the food.
But all in all would not hesitate to eat here again because the food is outstanding.
Great meal and good friendly service.
Really lovely experience with very tasty food & wonderful service
We visited Social Eating House to celebrate our honeymoon - we were visiting London from Canada - and absolutely loved the meal we enjoyed there. We ordered the sampling menu plus the classic wine pairings and found both the food and the service to be excellent. Our favourite part was learning about the wines selected for our meal from the restaurant’s sommelier.
Lovely restaurant with an incredible choice of delicious food. Service was top notch.
Great attentive service and the food was so good! Would highly recommend it and go back again.
Overall a great experience to celebrate our anniversary, they even left us a handwritten card and a cake to take home. We went for the lunch set menu so great value for money. They food was lovely and tasty though the steak was not tender enough. Great vegeterian options for me, yummy twist on mac & cheese.
The atmosphere and service are great, only problem is it gets quite noisy and loud when full, acoustics is not so great...
Will go back!
This was my second trip to the Social Eating House and was just as good as I remembered. We chose the five course tasting menu and my husband had the paired wines. Every course was beautifully displayed and tasted fantastic. The service was attentive but never intrusive. A lovely evening.
Great experience but you do pay for that . I guess a place that is expensive but delivers if you can afford it.
Really enjoyed the whole experience - food, atmosphere and wine. Plus we were able to transfer our tab up to the cocktail bar upstairs after our meal
Not bad, but just not great. I’ve eaten at Social Eating House many times. It has a really good bar, and love the atmosphere. This time I would say the food was ok, just honestly not great for the price. It is top end price-wise but food is not memorable and think they either need to drop the prices or do better
Never disappoints, highly recommend. Dare had a minor issue with her entrée, chef made a new one for her in minutes. Amazing.
A fabulous lunch in a delightful restaurant where attention to detail is at it’s most. We went for a set lunch which was summer on a plate – delicious. The staff were friendly and on hand without being overbearing and the fact that they personalised our meal with a birthday card for me and a birthday boxed dessert slice to take away was just the icing on the cake. Perfect!
Nice restaurant but shame the air con was not working during our visit. We were upstairs for a drink and then taken to our table at our appointed time. Ordered a starter and the cote de boeuf between 2 with a bottle of red. The temperature became warmer and warmer during the meal until it became unbearable (given the rich food and wine we were consuming). We were offered a bar seat to finish the meal which was a lot cooler. Given the pricing and the Michelin star, a lot more was expected! When the bill came, a round of drinks was removed together with the service charge. This was much appreciated but given the entire evening was ruined by the uncomfortable temperature and the fact that we had to move seats to the bar not somewhere I would recommend or return to! Shame
What an amazing dinner. Sampler menu with the premium wine was absolutely outstanding. Service was very accompanying of special requests, and exemplary overall. 3 points of note; the tables were very close together and we had to have the table fixed as it was rocky twice, and the price point was a higher than anticipated at £370 for 2 (considering open tables price projection). Overall an outstanding meal though and would definitely return.
There are much better options for set menu dining. We were hassled into ordering right at the cut off of the dining window. Even though my date had gone to bathroom they came to me twice to take our order. A good restaurant would have waited 2 minutes for my date to return. When we were given approval to order my drink took over 15 minutes to arrive. Starters took nearly half an hour. Overall both service and food were not up to expectations, with service and wait times really letting the whole experience down.
Thank you very much for all, it was delicious and a lovely time.
It was brilliant! Went there with my partner and we were both really happy with the service, very attentive staff, with the food , it was absolutely delicious , and with the bill, very reasonable forva Michelin restaurant!
We will definetely coming back!
Came to enjoy 3 courses for 28 pounds. Good price, but unfortunately we felt like the staff was trying to work us out the door asap. Starters arrived to soon (within a few mins of sitting down) and the main course arrived 1 minute after we put down our cutlery for the starter. I hadn’t even finished my aperitif by then! Food itself was OK, not very special and too much smokey stuff unbalancing the flavours. The service was polite but we didn’t feel very welcome. Not going back sadly.
The service is nice and the food is alright. Ultimately this is an expensive restaurant so you don't want to be paying £££ for food that is just okay. Food is about 3* meh, but combined with the price this is pretty disappointing unfortunately
El local, la comida y el servicio espectacular!!!... El único inconveniente, el ruido, teníamos que alzar la voz bastante para hablar en pareja, esa parte resultó incómoda...
We ordered the 6 course sample menu. The dishes included many techniques and a broad, well-balanced, flavour profile. Texturally exciting as well. Beautiful, seasonal ingredients. One dish was felt to be too salty (by a friend and myself), for which we received apologies by two different waiters. Even though slightly suboptimal(personal preference), two accompanying wines were suggested which supported the first three, and the fourth dish. Overall experience: decently priced, interesting menu with good service and wine advice.
Great food and fairly priced. Service was good except those on the door, who blanked us.
Lovely greeting by staff
All very friendly and attentive
Food was amazing
Will Definitely go back soon
Beautiful dining room and buzzy ambience but very difficult to talk to someone on your table as it’s so noisy
Pre theatre menu great value for money. Nice touch with birthday card. Have been to this restaurant a few times now and have always enjoyed it. Very relaxed and informal, with really good service, food and drinks.
Fantastic food and service, I would highly recommend the Social Eating House!
Great place, a bit pricey but the quality is pretty good overall
Fabulous evening made much nicer by the fabulous Slovenian Matre d’ and the lovely Italian Waiter who had only been in post for one week. Fabulous service with humour it made our evening. Than you
Definitely not worth the price and almost all the staff was in early training stages because they were very inexperienced and bad. Not a Michelin star experience.
Food lovely and a good value 2 course lunch menu (NB you don't have to have three!). Let down by slow service.
Amazing food, 5 star service and super friendly and caring staff.
Food was amazing. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Very rustic surroundings.
Surpassed my expectations and we eat out a lot. Enough attention from the waiting staff and sommelier not too much. Overall a wonderful night and one I hope to repeat very soon.
Was really looking forward to trying out Social Eating House for the longest time now. Staff were very good and attentive. However, food was really nothing to shout about, we ordered the set lunch menu, onion soup starter was nice, pork starter was extremely salty. As for the mains, we ordered the mac and cheese and steak. The Mac and cheese was nice initially but was quite sickly after a while. The steak was a disappointment...ordered in medium rare, still tough and chewy, for a Michelin starred restaurant, I expected so much more. The peppercorn sauce accompanying the steak was incredibly salty too. After the meal, we felt so thirsty and faint, just way way way too salty. With that said, not gonna be visiting again.
Celebrated my partners birthday and had an excellent experience all around. Very thoughtful staff
Everything on the menu is great. Order anything. The place is nice but the food is worth the trip and service top drawer. For more special occasions than every day eating.
From a stared restaurant you expect much more.
It was funny at the best case , insulting at the worst.
Really a shame.
