Social Eating House
Hostess wouldn’t seat us when we arrived as she said the tables were full. They weren’t - as we were able to make a reservation on open table immediately and then re enter the restaurant and get seated.
Family celebration
If the wait for a table was less than30 minutes I'd give them 6 stars!
Having arrived just before the allotted time of 21:15, we were told to go upstairs to a bar. Normally we would have no problem but we had just had 1 bottle of champagne and didn't feel like another, or a cocktail.
Having reluctantly shoved upstairs to a noisy and small bar, we sat at a table and waited. Eventually we ordered a bottle (French Sauvignon blanc - delicious!) but told the waiter we would take it to our dining table.
We nagged the Manageress and after 30 minutes we got our table, downstairs. Cozy and warm, but still noisy.
Then the fun started - amazing service, incredibly good food and that Sauvignon....yum.
So, my advice is, if you are usually hungry early then ask for a table about 7. If you are drinker and would like a more leisurely evening, then post 9pm. But the food is worth he wait. I took the first mouthful of the crab starter and I honestly thought I had been feted by the royal family. The main of halibut with a confit of duck was unusually paired, but the result was superlative. The rillette of duck meat in a thick sauce complimented the soft but firm grilled halibut sublimely. My partner's scallop (sashimi style) starter and lamb rump were also superbly prepared. I had a mouthful of the rump - very pink but so tender.
I will try to experience Social's other sisters and will give you my verdict in due course.
Been a few years ago so was looking forward to a return visit and wasn’t disappointed! The crab to start with was delicious as was my partners monkfish, both were fresh and delicately flavoured!
The mains of sirloin and ribeye steaks were cooked exactly as requested with both being accompanied by a rich peppercorn sauce which was delightful and carried quite a kick of pepper - yummy and just how it should be. The duck fried ships were a fantastic accompaniment being crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. A nice crisp salad was all that was needed to complete the mains. Very tasty!!
Our deserts were a delight too and with a well rounded bottle of red at a very reasonable price we couldn’t fault dinner!! Fab u lous and the waiters were both attentive but in a lovely relaxed manner!!
Will be back!!
I was really looking forward to this meal and left disappointed. It took over 20 mins to get our glass of bubbles which is not acceptable as the restaurant was not even busy at this time. However, starters were lovely. The mains arrived before our wine and my plate and everything on it was cold. . Unfortunately I left feeling really disappointed that I had recommended this restaurant.
It was my partners bday and I can’t recommend this restaurant enough! Definitely perfect for special occasions, service was perfect and prompt. We both really loved the food , will be back to try the other goodies on the menu!
Blind pig the bar upstairs had a good vibe , seemed busy for a Wednesday night couldn’t have asked for a great atmosphere, big thumbs up!!
Food was very good. Staff was poor, and seemed a mismatch for the venue.
Too noisy. I waited 45 mins between starter and main course during lunch.
Food was too salty.
We went for dinner after theater. It took almost 20 minutes after we were seated to have our drinks order taken. Our first course was fine and our second course took over an hour to get to our table after our first course was cleared. We asked multiple staff members who didn’t seem to be able to do anything about it. We weren’t served our entrees until 11:15 pm when we sat down any 9:40. We will never go back.
Expensive and overrated, luckily our experience was gifted to us but I couldn't imagine paying £411 for two people to eat/drink. The food was equisitively presented but distinctly average in taste.
Excellent food, perfect service. Would definitely recommend
Wonderful service, delicious food and VERY special cocktails
Truly innovative combinations that work extremely well. It is sometimes hard to imagine how the ingredients will work together but work they did! A lovely experience.
Excellent selection on A la carte menu. Great wine selection and cocktails, great atmosphere. A good evening out
The food is unquestionably great, the service impeccable, a card on the table from staff for our anniversary was a grest touch.
It does get a bit loud, so can be hard to converse but otherwise great.
Was sad they didn't have the mushroom toast on the menu any more, but they have a really great vegan menu!
For a 1 Star restaurant I expected the food and service to be better; don’t get me wrong it was not bad! but no dish On the tasting menu was stand out- and a few dishes were very samey ; for my wife and mine taste two dishes were over seasoned to near the point of unpleasantness; Wine flight was good and sommelier very informative. Maybe A tasting menu on Tuesday night was not the right choice...
The best meal experience I’ve had in a long time! Can’t wait to go again.
We chose the tasting menu accompanied by the drinks. It was a pleasure. Each course was a delight in itself! A beautiful evening!
Thank you xx
Good food and venue.
However the service was slow despite ordering a pre theatre menu and so was unable to have the 3 courses in 90 minutes.
Offer that we booked two and a half months ago was no longer available so they wouldn’t honour it and did not inform us that it wasn’t available. Only booked because their sister restaurant 5 social which was great recommended them. Table wasn’t ready, sent us to the bar which was full and sent us back downstairs to edit like spare parts whilst other guests who arrived after us were seated. Very cramped for five slim people. Food nice but not the set meal we booked for. They should have informed us as that is what we booked for- make sure you write it in notes when you click on prix fix menu option through web site. Very disappointed and upset for my friends and ruined start of the evening
Best meal I've ever had! Thank you for providing veggie food too!!
Great dinner and ambiance. Server/waitress was not. Surprisingly rude and unfriendly.
From start to finish including cocktails, service and superb food presented beautifully with full explanation the experience was 5 star.
Really poor and inattentive service. Not helped that our table wasn't ready when we arrived and we had to wait 15 minutes. Sloppy service, no attention to detail, had to fight to get attention (even though it wasn't full in the restaurant by the time we sat down). Wine arrived after food etc. Food was very good and ambience and appearance of restaurant lovely but service really disappointing and not good enough overall to make us want to go back.
Nice atmosphere, a really helpful waiter (Simone) who recommended dishes to us and cocktails. The food was delicious, it’s quite rich so don’t plan a big lunch if you’re going here for dinner! The only downside is we had to leave after 2hours as they have a turnaround time and we would have liked to have stayed longer, overall a very good experience and reasonably priced for the quality.
Delicious, generous portions for a pre theatre deal, making this extremely good value for a top tier restaurant
For a Michelin 1 star restaurant, we were disappointed. The service was long, the waitresses did not explain the dishes served, as they were beginners.
The artichoke was ok but too salty. The fish was good. The ragu and pasta were too salty. The person ate only one third of his dish. It did not surprise the waitress.
The cocktails were good. but it is not a bar it is a Michelin 1 star restaurant!
We paid the charges of 12% but you did not deserve it.
I have already lunched and dined at different Michelin 1 star restaurants. The experience is not comparable to your establishment. It was almost perfect from A to Z with the cuisine and the service.
A wonderful meal, lived up to expectations and more. Food was sublime and the service excellent and the little touches made a special evening even better.
This has to be the most generous Michelin star award in London. Very underwhelming. Average food. No wow factor and fantastically expensive for what it was. Better food and value available from many other restaurants in the area.
Only issue was my chair being knocked as the diners behind me took their seats but overall a great experience with outstanding food and fabulous service on my wife’s birthday. One of our best meals this year.
Good atmosphere, great cocktails. We had the lunch set menu & given that it's a lunch deal at a Michelin star I wasn't expecting massive portions, but I did expect super tasty food. Taste was ok but not great, and i did expect more than a couple of sliced plums for the dessert!
Staff were great.
I'd recommend to a friend for drinks but not food.
Noisy, happy ambiance with great service and food.
Inspiring food creations. Good wine list. Good location. Recommended!
Great food, staff and atmosphere (slightly noisey).
This restaurant behaves like the cliche of a star-rated without being one.
The only positive point, the food: it was delicious and the presentation really beautiful, we feasted.
And for the rest :
- The waitress was apathetic and made the experience disappointing.
- The wait was endless (2 hours for just a dish and a dessert).
- The atmosphere was extremely noisy (unfortunately I do not exaggerate we barely heard each other).
- Suit up and put your classiest clothes if you dont't want to feel that you don't belong here.
Great atmosphere. Delicious food
Loved the pre-theatre menu!!
Gorgeously low lit ambiance with enough chatter to make it a relaxed experience.
The gazpacho on the Devon crab starter was a revelation and the rabbit Bolognese was rich and flavourful. The turbot was a particular favourite of ours.
Your staff were so attentive and it made our anniversary dinner so special.
Thankyou so much
Amazing food and tasting menu was outstanding. A memorable lunch - perfect for special occasions.
Belated birthday lunch for my husband post a private guided tour of the City of London. Perfect end to the day in town. Every course was cooked and presented to perfection. Great atmosphere and service - a wonderful early start to the weekend!
