Contemporary British
Set in the heart of Soho, Social Eating House offers a contemporary bistro menu in an informal, buzzing setting. The third restaurant from celebrated chef Jason Atherton, it won a Michelin star within six months of opening under Chef Patron Paul Hood. The restaurant is split across three levels, with cocktail bar The Blind Pig on the first floor (perfect for pre or post-dinner drinks), the restaurant on the ground floor and an exclusive chef’s counter dining space in the basement kitchen, where guests can watch their meal cooked before them.

This restaurant is outstanding in every respect. From the moment you enter and are greeted by the friendly staff, served at table by the most capable and charming waiters, and seated in wonderful, industrially atmospheric surroundings. Then comes the food. One of the finest meals we have had in a long time. Add to that the incredible value set menu at lunch time and you have the perfect ingredients for a very special experience.

The meal was cheffing of the highest standard - great ingredients imaginatively combined and skillfully cooked. The place has a great buzz despite the Covid restrictions, though temperature checks on entering would have been a good improvement.
We loved our evening, both in the restaurant and after in the Blind Pig, we'll be back!

I tried here after eating many times at Pollen Street Social - another of Jason Atherton's restaurants which is stunning.
Perhaps my expectations were wrong - I expected a less formal version of Pollen Street with similar standards of food, service and quality.
Sadly not the case.
The pasta starter was bland and uninteresting, the venison was fatty and hard to cut with a blunt steak knife and served with a very tedious bowl of leaves.
The "selection" of ice-cream and sorbets was 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
The waiter was perfunctory and didn't take the time to explain the dishes or in any way go above and beyond.
I use the set lunch menus as a way of trying restaurants before returning to try the taster or a la carte menus. This should be a good value showcase of what they do to encourage people to return.

Extremely disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. A few dishes ok but mostly too or very salty food. Even the lettuce yes extremely salty. The dirty toilets and broken fixtures, this place has had better days. First Michelin star restaurant I have ever complained at, quite a disappointment. Serving staff friendly but the food is a major let down.

Went as a group of 4 to try the set menu (excellent value at £25 for 3 courses due to the September discount). Pretty much flawless experience from start to finish. Table was booked for 6.30 but one person arrived at 6.15 and was still able to be seated early. We each had a cocktail to start (cocktail of the day was 'Clover Club', gin and raspberry based, really delicious) while browsing the menu. Service was attentive but not over the top. Ordered our food and had some delicious bread and butter while waiting. All of us had the beetroot starter- incredible presentation and flavours. We ordered a bottle of Australian Riesling to have with our mains- between the 4 of us we had every main on the set menu (chicken, plaice, venison and the vegetarian pasta) and everyone enjoyed their food. The pasta-eater felt it was perhaps a tad undercooked and I personally would have preferred a little more seasoning for my fish, but these are probably subjective opinions. Desserts were coconut panna cotta and bread and butter pudding- both great. I never would have expected olives to work with coconut but it was divine.
We weren't rushed out after finishing our desserts and were able to linger over the last of our wine while chatting. Bill for a cocktail each, 3 courses and a bottle of wine between 4 came to £200 including service ie £50 each- an absolute bargain for the quality of food and the overall experience we had. Will absolutely return, thank you for a lovely evening.

We came for the £35 three course evening menu (only £25 in Sept) which was excellent quality, and really good value. The baked beetroot starter and plaice main course both exceeded expectations and chicken main course was also of a high standard.
Service was good and the ambiance was nice, although a little loud.

Overall, well worth a visit for high quality British food

We were first seated near the door which was cold and had no atmosphere. We asked to move which was accommodated. It was a shame that we both had to do the Chef's Experience, not just one person. It was my husband's birthday and he was disappointed not to be able to do this. I am pregnant so found it difficult to find options I could have. I wrote on the special requests when I booked that it was my husband's birthday and so I was expecting a candle or something in his dessert but this didnt happen which was disappointing.

I have to be honest in not knowing too much about the restaurant before I came here. The menu looked delicious and I ordered the tasting menu for the three of us. It was a surprisingly hit and miss menu. The first course was a scallop ceviche with Curry powder. Sadly the powder completely overwhelmed the scallop. More judicious use would have benefited the dish. The beef, lamb and foie gras were fantastic. The scallop and Brill disappointing. In both cases Indian spicing used incorrectly, in my opinion. Desserts were good and the petit four lovely. The main issue with the menu on this Wednesday night was the flow of dishes. We were left waiting too many times for too long between courses. A more generous host might have apologised and offered a drink maybe. Service wasn't exactly sharp for a Michelin started restaurant. I was having to wave for attention for water refills. In conclusion I had some really good dishes and some really disappointing ones. At this level that's not good. With some carefully considered ordering you could walk away with a fantastic meal here.

My first visit and it certainly won’t be my last. This is genuinely one of the beat restaurants I have visited in London. It is pricey but not mad - the food is OUTSTANDING and the wine list is broad enough (and good enough) to not break the bank!

This was my second visit to Social Eating House. I had been a few years back and really enjoyed the food and service, so was looking forward to another visit. The starters were delicious, flavour was on point, so we were really looking forward to our main. Unfortunately the main was underwhelming. The steak could easily have passed for something from a pub, the accompaniments were similar. The lady who served us was pleasant enough but we didn’t feel like anyone was really bothered. When we were leaving, we didn’t get so much as a nod or a “how was your evening” from the 3 members of staff we walked past, all engrossed in doing something else. Bit of a shame really given how much we were looking forward to it.

First time for us but second time for our guests. The food & drink were great, as was the service. Bit on the pricy side but we expected that. We'll definitely go a second time, our guests will definitely go a third time - especially if I'm paying! :-)

So lovely to dine again at Social Eating House. Cocktails beforehand at The Blind Pig were great, made even better by our server George. My son's birthday celebration was definitely one to remember - food was outstanding and impressive portions! So tasty!
