What Insiders Are Saying
If you like fine dining done Soho-style, you’ll like Social Eating House. The low-lit room is a great place to relax with a drink and some food.
Good food, good enough service...not sure I would return..there are better optios
A very very nice meal for 2 enjoying some time in London. Took the taster menu paired with wine and initial glass of champagne. First off the service was excellent and kudos to our Sommelier was was not only knowledgeable but also entertaining in a professional manner. The courses were just superb and the Initial Scallop course was for me possibly one of my favourite dishes ever followed by an amazing Turbot dish. Then the lamb, which only drops a point as I'm not a huge fan of Moroccan flavours. Still very well cooked. Then the Gin & Tonic shaved ice......WOW!!!
We visited the place for pre musical dinner. Service was good. Food was just normal. It was crowded from 6pm.
This is a small restaurant but has a great buzz (although loud) and attentive staff. Cocktails are unusual and different (not to all tastes) and food was really good and flavoursome. Vegan main was a little disappointing but otherwise all enjoyed their meal. I'm sure we'll return.
Food was excellent unfortunately we had to wait a long time with service.
Thankfully they removed the service charge and were very apologetic however the small details could really improve this establishment
This restaurant had a great ambience and staff were welcoming. I enjoyed the set menu. The beef had a great flavour. Food was of the standard you would expect from such a venue.
Delicious food, one of the best meals I’ve had for a while. However, the service was a little slow and the noise level was a bit high.
Fantastic food on the 3-course set course lunch menu, attentive and friendly staff who gave us an anniversary card and delicious cake to take home and enjoy.
Awful. Server forgot to put in order. When asked didn’t seem to care.
The excellent restaurant used to be one of our favourite but it’s badly let down by its chaotic front of house management. We were early and wanted a drink in the bar upstairs - thus used to be a simple case of going up and finding a seat if one was available. Now it’s been turned into a convoluted process of screening by headphone wearing people, a wait in a dark corridor before being admitted to the semi deserted bar and moved from one spot to another as there was some sort of panic about optimising each table to the last minute. This created a really terrible impression which sadly reflected on the whole evening. Folks, we spend £70 on two rounds of drinks that you nearly prevented us from having. The place was half empty. Get over yourselves! We might return to the restaurant but the whole bar experience never again
Absolutely loved the food. The crab starter was the star.
Lovely touch with the birthday card and cake too
Will definitely be back
The food was really good - especially the starters (Scallop and Crab) and main course (Turbot and Sirloin). Dessert was good but a bit of a letdown (compared to starter and mains). Atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and relaxed.
The service at the restaurant was below par! When we arrived, our table was not ready and we were taken up to the bar (would recommend heading up there!). As soon as we ordered our drinks, we were told our table was ready and we should head down. We went down and waited (just standing between tables!) a good 5-10 mins staring at the other diners till someone guided us to our table. The table we were seated at was in a corner and it got really hot and stuffy (I was well-done at the end of the meal!). There were also really long gaps (15-20 mins) before we were offered a menu and were kept waiting for over 30 mins in between courses. At the bar upstairs, our waiter was great and offered recommendations while down at the main restaurant, we got a hopeless shrug when we asked for recommendations - 'all dishes are good' he said!
Overall though....the food more than made up for the tardy service but with better service, I would be back sooner!
We booked Social Eating House for our anniversary dinner. Having eaten an amazing meal at Social on Pollen Street previously, we were excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately our expectations were not met, the food was good but not outstanding, especially when considering the price. The service was below par, very slow and despite informing the restaurant that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary we received no special treatment, not even a congratulations. We were left waiting on being seated at the table for a longer than acceptable period and on several occasions when we wanted to order more drinks.
This restaurant is nice, but doesn’t meet expectations for a finer dining experience.
Decent set menu and good opportunity to be able to try a restaurant otherwise inaccessible due to price point of the a la carte.
Great food and service. Good wine selection. Nice atmosphere, especially the Blind Pig for an aperitif on the first floor.
Very attentive service, good vibe and wonderful food, what's not to like?
We had the most amazing lunch (fix Prix) at Social yesterday. I was amazed at the quality of the food given the ridiculous price of £22 for 2 courses!! Also the staff, every one of them were excellent. Good humoured, attentive and professional. You don’t always get this. Well done to the whole team.
They took great care of us and made a real effort to make the evening special as it was our anniversary ❤️ will always recommend this place
We came here for our anniversary and had a great evening. We had the seasonal tasting menu including cheese and all courses were delicious. The sommelier (Daniele) had put together a very interesting wine pairing with several wines from lesser known regions all of which worked well with the various dishes - he explained very well the various tasting notes and how it fitted with the food.
The place is charmingly rustic but with the service of a Michelin restaurant - attentive but not so much it gets annoying.
Our only small critique was that the food portions are on the small side that we had to ask for some more bread (which was happily provided, so we did leave full).
Went for dinner with my girlfriend the table was not ready even though we had a reservation waited 20 mins then we go a seat. We ordered a starter to share we didn’t even get extra plates had to move the plate around . After we finished it took 20 mins for the waitress to collect the dish but the bread and butter plates stayed empty. After this we waited 1 hour to get our mains. We told the waitress how called the manager she wasn’t able to apologise and just said I will check with the kitchen. Then we finally go the dishes food was very good indeed but by that time after waiting 1 hour the night was ruined . When the bill came the restaurant didn’t charge the service costs and a dessert but still it was a dinner for 2 above 100 pounds that turned into a terrible experience hopefully this won’t happen to others.
We had the set menu as a pre theatre meal and it was excellent and very good value. The service was friendly and efficient and we were made very welcome. During the meal each dish was explained to us as it arrived and the senior staff made sure that they kept us happy without being intrusive. My only regret is that we had not allowed ourselves enough time to fully relish the experience but never mind as it just means that we will have to come back again to do the menu justice.
We had such a lovely dinner. Great service, with phenomenal food. We matched the wine with each dishes. We would love to come back again for next special occasion.
I visited the Social Eating House for a catch up with a good friend and we had a really lovely time. We had both wanted to visit for a long time and were not disappointed. We both opted for the prix fixe menu which is fantastic value for money including both wine and cocktail options. I had the duck terrine and plaice for main which was really beautifully done. The restaurant itself is really beautifully designed and has a lovely ambience. My only criticism is that the service was a little slow at points, we waited over 20 minutes after ordering for our drinks and at one point the sommelier was talking to another table behind us whilst leaning onto the back of my chair which I thought was slightly inappropriate. Other than that I would really recommend!
One of the best restaurant that you don’t know about. We will return to the restaurant
We had an amazing time , service was great , the food was amazing . We would definitely recommend this place
Food was excellent as expected, our waiter was quite loud and in our face but overall a nice experience.
The fixed menu was excellent. Gazpacho soup was fresh yet complex. Steak to follow was well flavored and the "chips" we're decadent. Desert was fresh and fun. However the most outstanding element was by far the service. Attentive, engaging, thoughtful, playful, and on the ball. Every guest is treated like royalty, every employee a consummate professional. I left my shopping bag after my experience blew me away and they quickly called to tell me I'd left it. I'd also called to let them know I'd be arriving late and they were able to accommodate. Many thanks!
The restaurant was to noisy for the 3 of us to have a coversation, it totally ruined the experience og the ability to enjoy the meal.
Tasting menu was excellent - wine selection was excellent and atmosphere was just right. Definitely coming back - staff were superb. This is new favourite. Good for vegetarians as well.
Great food but service was over complicated, very fussy and a constant interruption to what should have been a nice dinner with family, and despite all the effort we still didn’t have the right cutlery when the mains arrived!!!!
When I booked I was clear it was a pre theatre booking and we would need to be through quickly, I was assured this would be ok but alas we had to leave before the desserts arrived (which had been paid for!)
I love other Jason Atherton restaurants but this was a let down
Fantastic service and food was outstanding - only slightly negative to the meal was the restaurant was very warm and uncomfortable at times but not a distraction from the meal itself
Amazing lamb best I'd had. Dessert was the best ice cream I'd ever had also.
Over complex food. Well presented, good service but v loud and lacking any intimacy
Great service, the staff were polite and helpful. Interior was good and ambience was good too. However, the food wasn't too great
A brilliant meal from start to finish! Everything was delicious from the pre-theatre set menu, service was very warm and friendly, and efficient too. A very good value meal with no faults.
To be served fish as a vegetarian is not ideal.
I went for the set lunch menu and it’s an excellent value for money! It was £28 for 3 courses and i was so full i couldn’t finish my meal. Food and cocktails were both amazing!
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, presentation & taste were amazing. Attentive service and fantastic selection of wines available.
