What Insiders Are Saying
If you like fine dining done Soho-style, you’ll like Social Eating House. The low-lit room is a great place to relax with a drink and some food.
El local, la comida y el servicio espectacular!!!... El único inconveniente, el ruido, teníamos que alzar la voz bastante para hablar en pareja, esa parte resultó incómoda...
We ordered the 6 course sample menu. The dishes included many techniques and a broad, well-balanced, flavour profile. Texturally exciting as well. Beautiful, seasonal ingredients. One dish was felt to be too salty (by a friend and myself), for which we received apologies by two different waiters. Even though slightly suboptimal(personal preference), two accompanying wines were suggested which supported the first three, and the fourth dish. Overall experience: decently priced, interesting menu with good service and wine advice.
Great food and fairly priced. Service was good except those on the door, who blanked us.
Lovely greeting by staff
All very friendly and attentive
Food was amazing
Will Definitely go back soon
Beautiful dining room and buzzy ambience but very difficult to talk to someone on your table as it’s so noisy
Pre theatre menu great value for money. Nice touch with birthday card. Have been to this restaurant a few times now and have always enjoyed it. Very relaxed and informal, with really good service, food and drinks.
Fantastic food and service, I would highly recommend the Social Eating House!
Great place, a bit pricey but the quality is pretty good overall
Fabulous evening made much nicer by the fabulous Slovenian Matre d’ and the lovely Italian Waiter who had only been in post for one week. Fabulous service with humour it made our evening. Than you
Definitely not worth the price and almost all the staff was in early training stages because they were very inexperienced and bad. Not a Michelin star experience.
Food lovely and a good value 2 course lunch menu (NB you don't have to have three!). Let down by slow service.
Amazing food, 5 star service and super friendly and caring staff.
Food was amazing. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Very rustic surroundings.
Surpassed my expectations and we eat out a lot. Enough attention from the waiting staff and sommelier not too much. Overall a wonderful night and one I hope to repeat very soon.
Was really looking forward to trying out Social Eating House for the longest time now. Staff were very good and attentive. However, food was really nothing to shout about, we ordered the set lunch menu, onion soup starter was nice, pork starter was extremely salty. As for the mains, we ordered the mac and cheese and steak. The Mac and cheese was nice initially but was quite sickly after a while. The steak was a disappointment...ordered in medium rare, still tough and chewy, for a Michelin starred restaurant, I expected so much more. The peppercorn sauce accompanying the steak was incredibly salty too. After the meal, we felt so thirsty and faint, just way way way too salty. With that said, not gonna be visiting again.
Celebrated my partners birthday and had an excellent experience all around. Very thoughtful staff
Everything on the menu is great. Order anything. The place is nice but the food is worth the trip and service top drawer. For more special occasions than every day eating.
From a stared restaurant you expect much more.
It was funny at the best case , insulting at the worst.
Really a shame.
We were unfortunately a bit disappointed by our experience- really delicious food but very slow, inattentive service. We had to ask to be given a menu, and then only got some food 45 minutes after we’d been seated - and as we were the late sitting, that meant we didn’t start our meal until 10:15pm. We could hear the people next to us complaining about how long it took them to get a coffee. 80s pop playing a bit too loudly. So wasn’t quite right in our opinion.
Food was amazing and service was relaxed and friendly
Had a disappointing evening at the Social Eating House. The food and ambiance were great, but let down by poor service. Two of the six courses in the tasting menu were delivered to our table without introduction/ description, which you don't expect in a michelin-starred restaurant. When we tried to raise this constructively, the manager was defensive and rather rude. Eventually she begrudgingly took some money off the bill, leaving us with a cost of £400 for four people (vs £520 I think it was originally). So overall it was a shame. A shout-out for the sommelier though, he was great.
Good food but chaotic, noisy and expensive drinks .
Good food reasonabley priced for what it is. Lunch set menu was good value. One of the mains we had off the Al la carte seemed pretty basic though. Service was good although it was quiet when we went. In all a good dining experience.
The food was amazing, and the staff really friendly and helpful, but even the food being ok the price was extremely expensive. Not really worth it in my opinion.
Staff were great, food was so so
Service fell short, e.g desserts arrived after coffee, bottle of Prosecco added to bill that we did not have
Went here for my girlfriend’s birthday - we had limited time and waiting staff were excellent. Well worth the Michelin star.
A bit too noisy inside. Vegetarian dished could be a bit more experimental.
Amazing food, amazing service. I came for my birthday and the staff wrote me a birthday card and gave me a chocolate dessert with a candle at the end of the meal. I will definitely be coming again to try more of their dishes
Went there for lunch on a Saturday. Had the pre-fixed menu, pork knuckle, rump steak, and lemon parfait. Added a gin and tonic cocktail as part of the pre-fixed. The cocktail was well made, pork knuckle and steak was good. The lemon parfait was too tart for my taste. The service was professional and attentive. The noise level got too loud as the tables began filling. Overall, very good experience!
We had the pris-fixe menu. Incredible value, so good. The service was lovely and not intrusive. The only very small minus was the level of music in the bar upstairs where we went after the meal. It was so loud that it was very difficult to have a conversation.
Food was delicious and looked amazing. The staff were great and very accommodating of dietary requirements. Everything was immaculate.
It's a good restaurant but it was empty which gave it a very poor ambience and one waiter annoyingly over eager to clear. I understand they will introduce an attractive lunchtime menu which I hope will be popoular
Starter and main course were superb but the dessert was disappointing.
Went to Social Eating house for my 40th. Went to the Blind Pig beforehand for drink which was great.
Overall I really liked the Social Eating house. I like the relaxed but intimate feel, the decor and background music.
We had the Sampler. I really liked the Scallop and Foie Gras dishes. I terms of the other dishes, I personally found that the pearl barley with ceps too strong for the Sea Bass. I love Lamb but it was too salty so I couldn’t finish it which was a shame. I enjoyed the chocolate Delice but found the Tarragon ice cream too strong in that form. I would say though that I think the Sampler was great value for money vs other Taster menues for other starred restaurants.
And finally thanks for the birthday cake and card - I nice touch.
I've no idea how this restaurant has a Michelin star, such a disappointment, poor service, very average food and nothing like i would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Its all very average
Extremely Noisy... ok it was a Friday night but we litteraly had to shout to each other to keep the discussion.
Food is good but clearly overpriced.
For me the michelin star is not deserved.
Staff is nice. The were late with the wine so they offered it, which was really appreciated.
Thought the food was spectacular. Service was slightly overwhelming and felt as if rushed we had three waiters ask if we wanted our order taken in five minutes of sitting down and continued through our dinner. That being said the ambiance and food made up for it and would definitely recommend
Good service great food. Had the fixed price re theatre menu which was great and includes a carafe of wine. The only thing I thought not so great is that you can book a table for 6pm but they open at 6pm so had to wait outside
