This is one of the best value starred restaurants I have ever been to. The three course menu is outstanding. For the price of £26.50 is an exceptional bargain.

The service started of well however towards the end of our lunch there were no servers as they had obviously reached the end of their shift. We waited 40 minutes to order and have served 2 scoops of ice cream and cold pineapple. I did complain and they took the price of the deserts off however I expected so much more from this restaurant.

We had the early eve set menu on a Tuesday night. The food was fantastic and although the menu was small as long as you are not fussy it's a great option for a reasonably priced but fantastic meal.

Arrived early, so started with cocktails before the a la carte. Food was exquisite, partner's birthday and she really enjoyed it. Venison and the rabbit we're perfectly cooked. Glad we booked it, helped get over the disappointment of Kerridges at The Corinthia the night before.

Fantastic food but the climate was much too warm for the numbers of people in there. It actually affected our enjoyment of the meal, which WAS excellent (and the service was fantastic), but we just couldn’t wait to get out of there because it was far too hot with all the bodies in the room.

Having said that, I’d go back because it is really good food, and really great service, and a very photogenic dining room! We had the Buccleuch beef for two and it was delicious — but the variegated kale and crispy oxtail was the standout element of the dish.

Great food and the set menu was great value. We were a bit squashed on our table though and in a walk way thorough fare so worth checking where they seat you. Tables in the bar area would be great. We were also asked to leave our table after 2 hours and move to stools in the bar, which was fine, but no one subsequently took our table for the next 90 mins so not quite sure why we were moved. Sommelier was excellent!

I have ate at the restaurant a few times but I thought that it lacked atmosphere and the staff were not as attentive as they should have been. Slightly disappointed My wife and I shared the beef which did not have much flavour. I am sorry but it really did not live up to my high expectations

Great food and drink, the mushroom salad starter was particularly memorable. Nice ambience, relaxed and unstuffy with a good buzz. Tables are close together but not intrusive. Let down slightly by the service, some of the wait staff came across as disinterested/disengaged and their just wasn’t the general slickness and polish that you’d usually expect from a restaurant of this standard.

We had the set lunch, which I think is great value for money – 3 courses with a cocktail for £33.50.
I had the trout tartare, the braised beef cheeks and a selection of cheeses. My partner had the parsley root veloute with a crispy hen's egg, the Cumbrian rump steak and pineapple carpaccio with coconut ice cream.
The starters were both great. The veloute had a nice hint of truffle to it, and was absolutely smooth and sweet. The egg was cooked perfectly and the complete dish was really nice indeed. My trout tartare was really good, but not quite as impressive as the veloute, flavour-wise. It was nice, but for me personally, it could have used a bit more salt and a bit more acidity. Still a really good dish.
My main was spectacular and what I could expect from a Michelin starred kitchen. Flavours were amazing, deep and complex and the textures balanced really well. My partners steak was amazing too. However, the lettuce leaves it came with were just that. Lettuce leaves. Drizzled with a neutral oil, it was very underwhelming, and not what I would expect from a kitchen like this. The chips were fine and the peppercorn sauce was wonderful.
The waitress enquired about my taste in cheeses before serving, a big plus. 3 strong cheeses were served with 3 different crackers, which unfortunately did not complement the taste of any of the cheeses. The chutney was missing, and I had to ask for it. The chutney was nice, but only matched one of the 3 taste-wise, which made the whole experience really dry. I mentioned this, and was offered a different slice of cheese, which suited the chutney better. They only
The amount of spicy sirup and coconut ice cream to complement the pineapple in my partners dessert was not at all enough, resulting in a surprisingly weak dessert.
Overall okay, but 2 out of 3 is not enough for me to recommend, sorry. The place was nice, although tables were very close to each other. Service was professional, polite and efficient.

Food was all very good, although no exceptional stand-out dishes. Staff were all very polite and knowledgeable about the food, and willing to spend time answering our many questions. Restaurant was a little too noisy for us, and it was difficult to hear the waiters, others may be less bothered by this.

I've walked past the SEH many times and it has always looked inviting so I booked an early evening table for 2 after work. The location is great and we had a drink in the pub next door first which was a good start to the evening. Entering the restaurant, we received a warm welcome and were shown to our tables. The waiting staff seemed quite keen to take our orders but we took our time to decide between the excellent value pre theatre menu and al la carte. Some nice bread and smoked butter (yum) came along and a jug of water was poured (and refilled constantly). Some things on the a la carte caught our eye so we went with that. Starters were excellent and looked the part too. Unfortunately, my plate was removed before my partner had finished hers which we felt was wrong. Anyway, the mains arrived quickly along with the wine (lovely, we used vivino to choose) and this is where the disappointment started. The food looked the part but was just a bit disappointing. My fish was totally overcooked and tasteless and the risotto it was served on tasted very bland indeed despite having a reduced mushroom tea added which I thought would be full flavour (it wasn't). The highlight was an ultra-thin slice of lardo which I unfortunately popped in my mouth in one go! My partner's dish was better but still, lacked definition and finesse. Nothing stood out for either of us in terms of flavour but it soon became clear just how rich both dishes were as we struggled to finish. We have eaten much better food at this price and left disappointed and in need of a long walk. A shame.

We were very disappointed. The service is really not at the level expected for a 1 michelin star restaurant. Ex: we made a reservation and we were placed in front of the window on high chairs, they took the order without asking for the wine (as a result first course served without wine), some of the food was too cool, we had to ask for bread several times, wine was served too warm, very basic etiquette from the waiter,..The food was OK but was lacking some touch of creativity and some of the courses were served too cold (ie foie gras poile). The second dessert was rather too heavy for ending a 6 courses menu...This is definitively not a 1 star.

Don’t book a table here at 10.30pm! Sadly we were asked to order within 5 minutes after sitting down as the kitchen was closing. Sauce came late (sorry the chefs want to go home, was the reason given!) and the parfait was solid !! The food was beautiful and they did take off the service charge. Sadly overall the evening was affected by “tired” staff who wanted to go home

Daniele the sommelier is brilliant - he immediately understood our desires and suggested a great wine.

Good food and attention to details. Our table was a good one in the corner, far from the busy part of the restaurant and with a good lighting to appreciate the colours of the food

Really disappointing overall. We booked it as a special treat and experience while visiting London, but really wish we didnt! The food was nothing special and the service poor. I would not recommend a visit.

The waiter serving was uninterested and lacked any passion. We were given bread on the table and told "this is the bread" while we could hear another waiter serving a different table explaining the different types of bread, and really taking time to explain the menu.

I ordered the Cod which turned out to be barely warm in the middle and not fully cooked all the way through. I made a complaint and in return i received a light hearted apology while they cooked a replacement. I then sat and watched my partner eat her food while i waited. The apology was weak with no sense they actually cared. I was not even offered a free glass of wine for the trouble.

When we originally arrived one of the waitresses took my coat to hang up, but on leaving they where unable to located the exact place it had been stored. I had to personally check all 5 coat hanging locations to find it myself.

Just a poor experience from start to finish.

Taking advantage of the New year £33.50 three course menu + cocktail, this was great value for money. We visited for my wife’s birthday before popping down the road to see Les Mis and the food was phenomenal - worthy of the star! We had to rush our dessert a little to make the theatre on time (and we still missed the opening number!) but generally the service was prompt and the water on the table was constantly topped up meaning you never had an empty glass. It has a very cool vibe and I would go back again especially to head upstairs to the blind pig also...if downstairs is anything to go by then upstairs must be well worth the visit.
