Had the 5 course tasting menu and standard wine pairing. The food was delicious but I did feel short changed on portion size. If I hadn’t eaten the bread I would have left hungry.
The wine was interesting, checked some of them on Vivino and most quite reasonably priced which made me wonder why the sommelier was so stingy with his pouring. Certainly not good value for the £50 price tag.
The restaurant was very noisy.
Nice food & wine but only for those with small appetites.
Loved it! Went for a friends surprise birthday and we were al surprised !
Excellent food and interesting menu options. Very good service, strong ability to advise on menu, great wine and cocktail selection. High decibel levels - so no quiet conversations.
Food was excellent! Tomatoes salad was sweet and flavorful. Fish and duck entree was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The waiter was completely incompetent! The numerous requests for water and ice forgotten. The sommelier never checked in our champagne after dropping it off. One was particularly good and would have loved another glass. Didn’t see him the rest of the night. Waiter dropped off side salad we requested as an appetizer after we had finished our entree. He saw that we were peeved but just walked away. Didn’t even bother to apologize or acknowledged the mistake. We had to flagged another staff to get the bill bc the waiter spent 15 min talking with the table behind us and couldn’t be bothered. Felt like we were at a diner given the atrocious lack of service. We debated about requesting that the service charge be removed due to the poor and lack of service. Sad that the amazing chef can’t get the proper front of house to compliment the amazing food. Will never go back to restaurants.
A bit of a disappointment. The food itself was tasty, though unfortunately I found a fibre in my dessert that was definitely not meant to be there! This was handled well by the venue and a refund offered.
The set up of the restaurant is atmospheric but this is overshadowed by the disorganised service. The staff were all very pleasant but clearly quite busy and confused which was distracting.
The bar in particular struggled, at one point 5 out of 7 tables in our area didn’t have a drink served. We waited over 20minutes for our drinks. Overall disappointing
Another great meal at this restaurant - imaginative ingredients - well presented - lovely staff and a great wine list.
WAY too loud. I am not sure how you fix this. Fun atmosphere
Had a great evening, dessert menu let it down unless you are an ice cream addict.
Food was excellent and plentiful.
Ambiance was great as were the staff.
Pre dinner cocktail upstairs was delightful and again staff friendly and helpful and a great atmosphere
Good food and lovely wines. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance
Great service , atmosphere and food.
a little noisy
Booking was for 9:30. Sat after 10. 7 out of 10 dishes too salty. Quite disappointing.
Maybe depends, food was reasonable. Service bad and cleanliness apoling
I have been going to this restaurant for years, and it has always been amazing.
Something changed, very disappointing.
I was actually quite disappointed with my visit to Social Eating House. Firstly the service was surprisingly slow and the staff didn't seem to communicate very well (someone brought us the wine list after we had ordered our drinks, twice.) We sat down at 8:30pm and received our starters an hour later then waited a further half an hour for our mains. My main course (the talbot) was the most intense onslaught of "umami" and salt that I've ever come across, so much so that I struggled to eat it (added to the fact it was 10pm by the time it arrived). There were no attempts by the waiting staff to check if we wanted any more drinks and weren't easy to flag down. I realise that remaining attentive on a Saturday night can be challenging but I don't think the restaurant was even full.
This trip was for a special occasion and we both left feeling a little underwhelmed. I'm glad we didn't opt for the tasting menu, at the rate the food was coming out the kitchen we'd have still been there through to the next morning!
It does get noisy so not the place for an intimate dinner. Atmosphere is good though and staff are attentive, quick and excellent overall, Large staff to diner ratio, we dealt with several people all evening all of whom were uniformly excellent.
We had the pre-theatre menu which is good value for London. Risotto main course was very creamy and delicious but didn't really need the chicken we felt. More mushrooms and veg would have been better.
Lamb main course ( reconstructed confit shoulder) was a well thought out dish but far too salty, this from someone who likes well seasoned food. The fish dish was beautifully presented but we both felt the plaice seemed a little tired. Having just come back from Cornwall you know how fresh fish should taste.
Deserts were the least successful item - we had one of each and the strawberry concoction had rather collapsed when it arrived . We noticed other diners had better presented versions so we were just unlucky. However, there seemed a lot of effort involved for little genuine taste sensation. The plum desert was more flavoursome but minute amounts of sheeps yoghurt meant there wasn't much contrast to the fruit.
Sounds like we didn't enjoy it maybe but we really did. The cooking is of a high standard but we eat out a fair bit and cook well at home so I think we're fair judges. Would recommend but, as stated, not for those looking for a quiet meal where they can hear each other without effort!
We had the pre show 3 course menu.
Great value for quality food and service.
Shabby service, average food. We informed the staff that it was 1 and 3/4 hours before we got our first plate of food (relative to our table booking). The bar was slow and the restaurant slower.....
Very polite staff but too much waiting at the beginning and between the main and the dessert.
Food was good and tasty, albeit it’s hard to say if it has met my expectation for a one Michelin star. Service was impeccable and loved the welcoming atmosphere brought by the staff.
Good food, good enough service...not sure I would return..there are better optios
Nice enough places with reasonable food, good wine selection and helpful sommelier.
A very very nice meal for 2 enjoying some time in London. Took the taster menu paired with wine and initial glass of champagne. First off the service was excellent and kudos to our Sommelier was was not only knowledgeable but also entertaining in a professional manner. The courses were just superb and the Initial Scallop course was for me possibly one of my favourite dishes ever followed by an amazing Turbot dish. Then the lamb, which only drops a point as I'm not a huge fan of Moroccan flavours. Still very well cooked. Then the Gin & Tonic shaved ice......WOW!!!
We visited the place for pre musical dinner. Service was good. Food was just normal. It was crowded from 6pm.
This is a small restaurant but has a great buzz (although loud) and attentive staff. Cocktails are unusual and different (not to all tastes) and food was really good and flavoursome. Vegan main was a little disappointing but otherwise all enjoyed their meal. I'm sure we'll return.
Food was excellent unfortunately we had to wait a long time with service.
Thankfully they removed the service charge and were very apologetic however the small details could really improve this establishment
This restaurant had a great ambience and staff were welcoming. I enjoyed the set menu. The beef had a great flavour. Food was of the standard you would expect from such a venue.
Delicious food, one of the best meals I’ve had for a while. However, the service was a little slow and the noise level was a bit high.
Fantastic food on the 3-course set course lunch menu, attentive and friendly staff who gave us an anniversary card and delicious cake to take home and enjoy.
Awful. Server forgot to put in order. When asked didn’t seem to care.
The excellent restaurant used to be one of our favourite but it’s badly let down by its chaotic front of house management. We were early and wanted a drink in the bar upstairs - thus used to be a simple case of going up and finding a seat if one was available. Now it’s been turned into a convoluted process of screening by headphone wearing people, a wait in a dark corridor before being admitted to the semi deserted bar and moved from one spot to another as there was some sort of panic about optimising each table to the last minute. This created a really terrible impression which sadly reflected on the whole evening. Folks, we spend £70 on two rounds of drinks that you nearly prevented us from having. The place was half empty. Get over yourselves! We might return to the restaurant but the whole bar experience never again
Absolutely loved the food. The crab starter was the star.
Lovely touch with the birthday card and cake too
Will definitely be back
The food was really good - especially the starters (Scallop and Crab) and main course (Turbot and Sirloin). Dessert was good but a bit of a letdown (compared to starter and mains). Atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and relaxed.
The service at the restaurant was below par! When we arrived, our table was not ready and we were taken up to the bar (would recommend heading up there!). As soon as we ordered our drinks, we were told our table was ready and we should head down. We went down and waited (just standing between tables!) a good 5-10 mins staring at the other diners till someone guided us to our table. The table we were seated at was in a corner and it got really hot and stuffy (I was well-done at the end of the meal!). There were also really long gaps (15-20 mins) before we were offered a menu and were kept waiting for over 30 mins in between courses. At the bar upstairs, our waiter was great and offered recommendations while down at the main restaurant, we got a hopeless shrug when we asked for recommendations - 'all dishes are good' he said!
Overall though....the food more than made up for the tardy service but with better service, I would be back sooner!
We booked Social Eating House for our anniversary dinner. Having eaten an amazing meal at Social on Pollen Street previously, we were excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately our expectations were not met, the food was good but not outstanding, especially when considering the price. The service was below par, very slow and despite informing the restaurant that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary we received no special treatment, not even a congratulations. We were left waiting on being seated at the table for a longer than acceptable period and on several occasions when we wanted to order more drinks.
This restaurant is nice, but doesn’t meet expectations for a finer dining experience.
Decent set menu and good opportunity to be able to try a restaurant otherwise inaccessible due to price point of the a la carte.
Great food and service. Good wine selection. Nice atmosphere, especially the Blind Pig for an aperitif on the first floor.
Very attentive service, good vibe and wonderful food, what's not to like?
We had the most amazing lunch (fix Prix) at Social yesterday. I was amazed at the quality of the food given the ridiculous price of £22 for 2 courses!! Also the staff, every one of them were excellent. Good humoured, attentive and professional. You don’t always get this. Well done to the whole team.
They took great care of us and made a real effort to make the evening special as it was our anniversary ❤️ will always recommend this place
