We have loved this restaurant for many years but we now find it poor value. As the prices have risen the quality has declined. The cheapest wine is about £35 per bottle. The first bottle opened was undrinkable and readily replaced, as the staff member serving us fully agreed. Its replacement was better but only bearably drinkable and compared poorly against a low to medium supermarket or high street sauvignon. There were only four mains, each ready plated, one vegetarian, one fish and two meat. The only potatoes available were chips, ready plated within the beef dish. The staff appeared to be unable to grasp the point my partner was making that she never eats chips as she regards them as unhealthy and more suited to fast food outlets rather than smart restaurants. Surely, it would be possible to offer steamed new potatoes as an easily prepared alternative. The noise level made it difficult to converse with the staff.
We had a lovely evening at Soif. The staff were short handed but the remaining team worked hard to make sure that everyone was tended to in a professional and efficiency way. Delicious food. Love the sharing plates. Good wine list and priced reasonably. Will come back!
lovely service from the front of house staff. really loved the charcuterie and the recommendations. Outstanding charred watermelon salad dish. all washed down with a nice helping of Sicilian catarratto. Love this place always.
The food was very tasty but each course took a long time to arrive.
We were dinning there on the hottest July day on record and the air con fan had broken over a year ago apparently, perhaps this could have been fixed.
Love this place. Great food, great wine, great staff, great atmosphere. This was my 5th visit and I will be coming back again.
Out of the 4 main courses, 2 were out of stock. The gnocchi was bad and one starter was forgotten
I am not sure why we have taken so long to have a meal at Soif. Great all round experience with lovely food and excellent service only irritation was the slighty over active sub woofer in the sound system, not necessary in restaurant of this quality.
Stunningly fresh meal on the hottest day of the year. Great staff eager to tell you about their wines, food and bread.
Very limited menu, average food, alright service. Would not return.
Had a very nice, affordable meal at Soif. They really love their wines and we were able to try several before we bought. Food seems to be something of a fusion between French and Italian, but anyway it works really well. Great service and welcome.
Very nice and fun atmosphere. French bistro style. The waiter was very nice and helpful especially with our wine order. Delicious steak. Will defiantly be back!
A roast with “all the trimmings” according to their board outside, which was far from advertised. “All the trimmings” usually means ALL the trimmings, not just a few potatoes, some cabbage and a meagre Yorkshire pudding. 40min wait time post-order for our food and 20min wait time to pay our bill, as servers were nowhere to be seen despite there being only three tables in the restaurant. Pork belly was over 90% fat, no meat on display, and was covered with crackling that didn’t crackle, so instead acted as a rubbery sheath of petrified gristle.
Starter was good as a share plate but we where a bit surprised for the main
Large plate of salmon very empty plate one fillet and few greens £20
An a fillet steak in slices again big plate but not much in it for £19.95
The place is big but not much atmosphere
£65 for a starter to share and two mains .... not impress
Amazing food, amazing service - as always. You can’t fault it.
Very unhappy with tonight’s booking: turned up at Soif to find it closed!! What is going on?
Fantastic wine. Great, friendly, and informative service. Lovely environment for an evening.
The food and wine was great but service was slow - we were pretty much left unattended - and half the menu had run out.
My wife and I had not visited Soif for more than 18 months, due a few niggles, but last Sunday it was 100% on form. great Sunday roast, great wines, very friendly staff. Thank you.
My son and I dined at Soif on Sunday evening, perhaps not the best time, but I was very disappointed by there being barely any choice as several things had run out the previous evening. In fact I think there was only one large plate option available ( which I had had the two nights previously when dining out and so did not wish to order again.) I had hoped for a special Sunday meal but instead ended up with a board of cold meats, bread and salad. However, my sons meal was delicious, as was the expensive bottle of wine we drank. I don’t think the fact that it is Sunday is sufficient excuse to offer so little choice, and the attitude was very much take it or leave it. Disappointing.
Very nice place to have a relax and cozy dinner and try out some wines.
This restaurant is a firm favourite. It has a really convivial atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The wines list is vast and includes some unusual options. We normally opt for the small plates, especially the charcuterie which is always delicious. Another great evening all round
Not as good as it used to be. Wine is a big part of Soif and staff seemed to know little - why no sommelier any more? Food good but portions less than before. A lot of the magic has gone.
Varied menu - really helpful and charming staff - would visit again
Visited on a Tuesday night which was very busy - possibly unexpectedly so for the staff who appeared very stretched. Food was good, especially small plates. Service, when it came, was very pleasant.
Food was great, particularly the lamb chops. Great place
We had a lamb broth which was pretty average. I do wonder what the stock was made of? This was £17.50. I had thought this a French restaurant so, as in France, a basket of bread comes with the meal. Not so. £3.50 a small hit and when you want more you pay again. Cheapest bottle of red was a £27 bottle of Rioja, which was pretty ordinary. Is there really a need for this sort of price? Really nice, friendly service. Not a place I’d return to.
As ever, soif provides high quality food, interesting wine list and good service.
This is our current favourite
Four of us had Sunday lunch here, and there was not a false note in the meal, great starters, outstanding roast pork for mains, and the rhubarb and custard dessert was just fantastic. Good wine, and lovely service. we will return. The place was a little empty for some reason, hence only four stars for ambience - would have been five it had been a little buzzier.
Starters and drinks were great best part of the meal! Unfortunately the steaks were massively over cooked which could be seen as soon as the plate was on the table.
At the end of service it took 15minutes to pay and the service had been good up till that point but seemed as though they may be one person short to deal with everyone because it was very busy at that point.
Shame as had high expectations
To few vegetarian options, I could basically only have a starter. I would recommend it to meat eaters tho, I think
Soif is great. Lovely food (although a bit more for the Valentine's special would have been good) and great wine. Service is really friendly but it is always packed so it can be hard to get attention if you need to. I also think it's a bit expensive compared some similar standard restaurants.
Overpriced for the quantity and quality of food! Better VFM restaurants in the area
Food was disappointing. Bland & flavourless. Service also average and the restaurant was cold. Won’t be going back.
Great service, particularly when it comes to their wines which is why we go back
Lovely restaurant- great food, not overpriced - friendly staff,
We had a great meal
As always, a great meal at Soif - one of my favourite restaurants.
Delicious food, fantastic service and a lovely selection of wine.
The menu choice was extremely limited and the wine was corked which was unfortunate. However, the desserts were excellent ... just a shame the rest of the meal was somewhat disappointing.
