I would recommend the Spice Lodge to friends and we have every intention of returning when next visiting Cheltenham. The menu was extensive, the food delicious and the staff welcoming, helpful and discrete.
Food was excellent...and yes, we DID fuse the Indian and Thai menus. It's a little expensive but you do actually pay for quality. Highly recommended and we WILL visit again when we return to Cheltenham.
Food was lovely, a little bit more expensive than your normal Indian restaurant but this is not a normal Indian restaurant.
Really enjoyed it
Love the spice lodge Seems very smart that you almost feel under dressed. But the waitstaff and friendly, the atmosphere is great and the food delicious. Highly recommended. Thank you for a great experience. Not run of the mill.
Luxury Dining in a comfortable restaurant at reasonable prices.
I’d made my reservation several weeks ago and when we arrived we were greeted and led to our table. Service was friendly and fairly prompt. Food was presented well and tasted very good. The four of us each had a different main course of lamb, beef and chickenc and we shared the rice and naan bread. Dessert was kolfi an Indian ice cream. We drank Cobra beer, Indian food doesn’t complement wine. The final bill for the four of us was around £146 which was ok.
However, over the next three days each one of us has suffered from what is best described as Delhi Belly, if it had just been one of us I’d not have mentioned it but all four of us were affected. I traveled to France on Tuesday and am therefore eating from a different diet from the others. This was our third trio to the Spice Lodge but I’m afraid it may have been our last.
Marvellous from start to finish, shame there was no fraught beer option but that is a small thing really.
Went to Spice Lodge for a Sunday lunch time, which meant the restaurant was a little quiet. However the service was still very good. What stood out was the unique dishes on the menu, therefore making a choice became a dilemma, and based on our choices means we will be going back to try some other of the other dishes to see if they are as good. There were several of the regular choices of course, but the individual style of the signature dishes were an enticement to try something new. Glad we did!!!
We always receive wonderful food at Spice Lodge with attentive service
Excellent service, great food, staff very helpful ref menu choices etc
Very poor value for money
Won’t be going again
Food tasted ok but a real lack of it
Tandoori didn’t have one bit of salad or lemon, made meal dry
No salad with starter either
Expensive food, expensive drink
Wouldn’t recommend anyone going here, far better around
Nice poppadoms and dips to start, but then had an hours wait for the main course by that point although the meal was very good,we had gone beyond the point of appreciating it and we were not kept informed that it would be such a long wait. A shame because it has put us off returning.
as usual service good, food almost very good except for very poor main dish of beef which was tough as old boots. The restaurant did not charge for this dish and gave us complimentary dessert. The rest of the meal was up to its usual high standard.
On my 3rd visit to Spice Lodge I was once again very pleased with the service and great food. Our server “Abbe” was very helpful with our first time guests and very knowledgeable of the menu. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
Very tasty curries, very nice staff, a lovely evening.
Food was ok but nothing special - wouldn’t rush back
We booked a table for a Sunday evening, but when we arrived it seemed there was no record of it so we were ushered into the very warm bar but not offered any drinks. After around twenty minutes we were taken to out table and given menus, following this the wait staff seemed to disappear for about half an hour. We finally asked for our order to be taken but were told only drink first, once these arrived our food order was taken. It took around an hour for the food to arrive, and considering it was a quiet Sunday evening this was quite surprising. The food was not of the quality usually served here, sauces were greasy and meat tough. All in all a poor experience so I'll make the journey out of town to Koloshi in future food good quality Indian food.
It was lovely here tonight really enjoyed it. Last time we went it was so busy that the service wasn’t too great and mistakes were made with the orders.
Food was great. We ate Thai. Service was very friendly.
Excellent Service, food of highest quality. The possibility to choose Thai or Indian cuisine. There is an ongoing tendency in some resraurant s to hack up wine prices .The Spice Lodge is not one of these, their wine prices are very reasonable.
Sat next to party table whose noise ruined our night! Left before finishing meal as Wife very upset. Asked for lamb dansak but given a dish that wasn’t what I asked for and terrible in taste. Horrible experience in truth
A good but mixed visit. The service was sadly very slow, with a long wait before our starters and another long wait before the mains arrived. On the plus side, the mains and sides were very nicely spiced with a great depth of flavour. Most of the starters were also good. However, my Chicken Tikka starter was small, very bland, with an almost non-existent amount of salad on the side. Finally, we were given the incorrect bill at the end, though they made up for that by giving us about a dozen chocolates instead of the expected four.
Friendly service, good food, nice ambiance...………………………………………………………………………………………………...
The restaurant is attractively decorated, the space consists of several spacious rooms in a large period property. The staff were attentive and informative. The food was tasty, nicely presented and interesting. Not your average Indian restaurant.
We booked Spice Lodge to celebrate my husband's birthday . They catered for 3 vegetarians and a coeliac with aplomb. The food here is amazing, authentic spicing and each dish had individual qualities. The building itself is very beautiful and a great setting for a special occasion. All the staff are very friendly and the service is attentive yet unobtrusive. Another little bonus is that they have a car park. We will certainly return.
We had an excellent meal and the service was superb. Thoroughly recommend it.
We were celebrating my sons 25th birthday. The staff were very attentive and helpful. I would recommend the spice lodge to anybody who is looking to experience good food
Lovely meal, great service as always. Was a week night so quite quiet in there but we had a fab evening, Thank you
Nice place to meet up, But not good enough for "foodies" No Wow factor, Just good average fare
Mother’s Day. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
This is the best pan-asian restaurant in Cheltenham. We have been eating there regularly for well over 10 years and the food and service is consistently excellent. I cannot recommend the Spice Lodge highly enough. Love the place.
Fantastic friendly service and delicious food. We'll definitely be back
Third visit to Spice Lodge. Most enjoyable meal made even better by the attentive service from Raj. Food exceptional..
Good food and friendly service.
The best Indian in Cheltenham
We as a group always book a table of 6 every year for the end of The Open meeting we have been for the last 20 years and we all agree the spice lodge is the best restaurant we have eaten in over these years coming to Cheltenham..
We are the Thai menu...delicious!
Excellent restaurant, helpful staff, excellent service which was not to slow or to fast but just right. The food itself had a lightness and freshness useualy only found when you are in Asia
Fantastic meal as always. Can't wait to go again!
Excellent food and service, usual high standard and very enjoyable atmosphere
Always look forward to visiting Spice Lodge after a day at the races
