Service was terrible waited for 15 mins to be asked if needed a drink , then further 20mins to take order - food was good though when it did arrive - very disappointed with rude staff - wasnt even packed restaurant wouldn't recommend this place
The service was the worst I have experienced for many years. From being taken to the table it took 25 minutes for a waiter to come to the table and ask for drinks and food. We only ordered a main course and this took a further 1hr to arrive. The food when eventually served was to a good standard but I find the service standard to be terrible and they had the audacity to charge 10% service charge on top of the bill.
Limited staff meant that we had to wait for our table despite having booked in advance and arrived on time. We were not offered drinks or menus. The restaurant decor is quite spartan with an awkward layout and tables quite close together. However, the table service was good and the food was of a high standard, with the lamb in particular being very tender.
Really lovely surprise - hadn't heard of / come across this place before, but food was really excellent - far exceeded expectations, really tasty and nicely presented too. Highly recommend.
Last visited Cardiff 2 years ago & tried the Spice Quarter & thought this was the best Indian restaurant ever! Was worried it wouldn't be as good 2 years later. However being that it was a Saturday night on a day following 2 rugby games in the City we were once again hugely impressed. We arrived for our table & the restaurant was heaving, we were given our table immediately & the service that followed was faultless! I was expecting a huge wait as they were so busy, but the waiter took our drinks order immediately & the drinks arrived quickly. The service was attentive all evening without being obtrusive. The food was impeccable & the ambience really good, again considering they were at full capacity, the noise level wasn't overpowering our conversation. Highly recommend, just hope I don't have to wait another 2 years to go back.
Service was a little slow. We waited over an hour for our food. Was tastey though. We had to wait for more drinks, not once did someone come over and ask us even though our glasses had been emptied for ages .. overall good though just a bit slow on the service side
A nice meal but nothing out of the ordinary.
Nice meal very quiet
I have only given average scores. Food was ok. There are places better. Service was also ok though didn’t get the impression they cared whether we were there or not. I alerted them through the booking that I was vegan. It was mentioned when I arrived and the waiter went through the vegan starter options which was good and then told me about three mains but each of these had meat or fish in them! We had to repeat our request for additional water. Rather impersonal service.
We went on a very busy Friday night. Service not great. Waited 90 minutes for our meal. However, it was definitely worth waiting for. We were a party of 4 and all our meals were outstanding.
TOOK SOME CLIENTS HERE FOR A MEAL AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE, LOCATION, FOOD, SERVICE
GREAT CURRY HOUSE
WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Couldn't fault the food, it was all delicious however unfortunately it all felt a bit rushed, regarding the service everything seemed to come at once and the staff were in a rush to clear the table
Good find on a very busy Saturday night in Cardiff.
Food was delicious and different from your standard Indian Chicken Tikka Masala etc. We weren’t rushed and had a really nice corner table. Good size portions with just enough. Would happily come back
Restaurant nearly empty, Food and Service disappointing
Just on the side of stylish and vibrant, rather than tacky and loud. Creative menu and decent atmosphere.
Excellent meal, with good service and some unusual dishes. Prices are average but good value for money. We will definitely eat here again when we are in Cardiff.
Good food, good variety and server willing to modify for particular tastes. tasty and well cooked good service
The food overall was fab ,after we foud a black hair stuck in one of the popadoms ,they did say sorry and gave us 1 to replace it,but no refund or discount ,had to remind the waiter for our wine and wait an hour for our main meal ,didn't feel the servive was worth the 10% service fee we had to pay on top of our bill which was £16 ,I always leave a tip but I think it should be our choice how much depending on the service we have .
Enjoyed our meal emensly great service staff were wonderful
Food was excellent and very good value for money, staff friendly and attentive. Only downside tables are close together and conversation can be difficult at times. Will go back
Everything was rubbish from the food to the service and to add insult to injury they automatically charge you a gratuity which is an astounding 10% what a rip off. The only reason I did not complain was that it was my husbands birthday treat while we were visiting Cardiff.
Excellent food, best onion baggies I have ever tasted, all in all a very nice meal, will go back
Great food, great atmosphere and service was very good. Beers were a tad expensive and the optional service charge was a bit much but it was only optional and we ended up giving what we considered an adequate percentage.
We visited The Spice Quarter for the first time for my son's 18th Birthday! Great place, lovely atmosphere, friendly waiter's and stunning food! The best chicken tikka bhuna ever!! Will definitely be recommending this place to others! 👌😋
Service was very slow, very little attention paid to us. Drinks brought half an hour after each order. Food order taken a hour after arrival. I had to request poppadoms and dips to keep us going . Food was good once it arrived two hours later, however one order was incorrect and a drink was spilt over table by the waiter. No real apology from Manager/supervisor. It seems they could not cope with the Saturday night influx, although they should be aware of what they had booked in.
I arranged the work's do and I felt let down. We will not be returning.
Excellent food, much better than you average Indian Restaurant look forward to going again.
Having had a fab meal here in the summer with friends we decided to go there for our special weekend away before Christmas.
The main course didn't live up to our previous experience and then we had to wait 30 minutes from ordering the sweet until it arrived.
It was supposed to be a mousse but it was still frozen and melting around the edges giving the strong impression that it has been through the microwave.
We didn't eat the dessert, had to rush to our concert and we were unimpressed with the casual manner with which the waiter dealt with our concerns.
Won't be going back again... a real shame after our first experience.
The restaurant is poor value and there is a huge inconsistency in the presentation and content of dishes. 4 prawns in a curry and 5 pieces of chicken in another is not good value.
FAULTLESS!! Having never been to Spice Quarter (or Cardiff) before we loved our meal and hope we're able to go back again soon. Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, we had a fabulous evening! It's been a long time since we've had a decent curry, this one excelled in taste, flavour & ambience, though I would say choose your dish carefully if you don't like your curry too hot. Our partners had spent the day at Bike Park Wales (Fri 9th December) so my friend & I arranged to meet them in Cardiff, Spice Quarter popped up with availability when I was doing a restaurant search, not knowing the area, I was a little hesitant to book, but we really couldn't have had a better evening and will definitely return here on our next visit to Cardiff. Being a Friday the restaurant was really busy but the standards didn't fail.
Service was very poor, took over an hour to have our food served, we weren't the only ones either, only had one drink, not offered another, not even offered any water!! We asked for our Bill once our food was finally served and we waited another 25 min for that too!! Will never return again!!
Lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly. Food was delicious and a must have for dessert are the Gulab James.
A slow start getting sat down even though we booked on line. It was a busy night with the "Rugger" being on, food great and served quickly despite how busy it was, staff spot on beer a bit expensive. Nice to be able to see the kitchen in action only gripe and an observation more than anything decor, fixture and fittings looking a little tired. Our meal was spot on no complaints there.
Good food, good service nice surroundings, price ok!
excellent Indian meal enjoyed by all of us........ we were in Cardiff for the weekend, this is our second visit to spice quarter and fully lived up to our expectations.
We were eating before a Six Nations Game at The Millenium so we expected the restaurant to be busy - which is was - but our meal was served with no waiting times and there were always staff on hand if you needed anything. The food was good - not the best Indian I have ever had but certainly tasty. My only gripe was that it was very expensive - whether this is the norm or if the special menu they had on was at higher prices I have no idea. Put it this way - we ate at an Indian in Manchester the next day and paid half the amount.
Did not have our booking then Waited 90 minutes for a starter then they were wrong!
Tried to charge £15 for service which we asked to be removed. Rice wasn't enough for one person! Would never recommend
Made a booking for 19:30 on a Sat night at RWC - arrived at 19:30 - to find a queue of people who had not booked - waiting for a table.
We were ushered straight in to an empty table (by the kitchen door) - we asked to be moved and it was accommodated straight away.
We ordered starters and mains - this took a little time to arrive - but was very tasty
The drinks were a bit expensive and they automatically add 15% to the bill as service charge
Cost for 6 with starters and mains and drinks = £133 (£22 / head) - at the dearer end of competition - but good location and food - would go again / great for groups.
Great service. Good atmosphere and all the food was top quality. We will be returning next time we are in Cardiff
Good service and friendly staff.
My korma was spicy not mild like it should be. My sisters dish for a tikka was so coated in chillies she was unable to eat it. The jalfrezi wasn't at all spicey it seems the cook had a bad day. I wouldn't go there again I didn't feel I had value for money it was way over priced for small portions.
