Spring met our expectations for a first time visit. Starters were very good around as were desserts. We weren't all totally satisfied with our mains. Too much jus in the trout for example. Selection of beers was rather poor but the core de gascogne house type wine was lovely and served at the right temperature. Value was around expectations. Menu perhaps a little thin and we were surprised how quickly the restaurant thinned out after 930 on a friday. But overall very good, four stars
We choose Spring for so many reasons, value, service, sustainability, atmosphere, charming staff, delicious food and drink.... and the best toilets in town!
Spring never disappoints. Thank you everyone.
Visited for the Scratch menu (pre-theatre deal), and it's absolutely brilliant.
Not only it is a go at sorting out tremendous food waste problem in the industry in general, but it is also a creative and absolutely delicious way of doing it!
Would go again and recommend to everyone!
My favourite summer restaurant - beautiful room, linen, food and atmosphere. Unbeatable!
my favourite place - beautiful environment and food, wonderful unfussy service
Firstly the room is peaceful full of light and gorgeous. This is my second time and something about the setting completely leaves me calm and blissfully content.
I had the set menu this time. The simple lemon sage pasta starter was wonderful- light tasting, simple, but filling enough. The best kind of uncomplicated starter.
My main course of onglet with roasted peppers and braised fennel was perfectly cooked and tasty. My greedily ordered meringue with strawberry sorbet and a kind of thick creme anglais was light, delicious and moreish - like a lighter, more summery eton mess. The cheapest of the house wine was still lovely.
Two extra shout outs to for the sourdough bread and butter which I only wish I could have eaten more of, and excellent service - from the front of house staff, to everyone who served me with just the right amount of attentiveness - always there when needed, friendly but unobtrusive. Real considered attention to customers which is even more important when dining alone.
I sound like I'm sponsored by Spring but I just really really love it there!
An excellent restaurant with faultless food & service served in a beautiful, elegant dining room. Their war on waste and plastic is an example all restaurants should follow. Thanks for a fantastic evening.
This is a really nice restaurant - a beautiful dining room and very nice, seasonal food.
Usually we would rate Spring very highly as past experiences have been excellent but this visit was rather disappointing. The Tuna starter with date vinaigrette and horseradish was unbalanced: pieces of sweet date that obscured the excellent raw fish and underpowered horseradish. The stracciatella starter was delicious. For mains we had lamb - mostly good although the flatbread was rather doughy. The real disappointment was the prawn, clam and monkfish stew. Fab taste but 1 prawn, 2 clams (and a 3rd in a broken shell which shouldn’t have left the pass) and two tiny pieces of monkfish was very poor value for a dish that cost £38. Fish may be expensive but this was niggardly.
We expressed our disappointment at the time and the staff were delightful and offered free desert/cheese which were good but we’d rather have had a bit more fish!
We opted for the pre-theatre Scratch menu. You have to call in advance to book it but it’s great value - £20 for 3 courses. The food and cooking of it was incredible. You can obviously build up the bill quickly adding vino, water and bread on though! The only slight criticism was that the 3 courses were all delivered very quickly, one could feel a bit rushed!
Lovely food but nothing too special, hard to get some service, like any restaurant really. But this has much higher price tag. GORGEOUS room.
Unfortunately the service was not up to expectation. The food was good but disappointed with deserts. The lemon tart with gooseberries on the menu had been replaced by meringue with gooseberries and although the taste was good, there was no effort at all on presentation (desert at £10 excl. Service charges). Service was average, the lady who served us did not ask us if things where going ok during the meal and did not apologise for the change on the desert menu.
Fantastic Restaurant !! Food and Service (Fantastic Sommelier) are Wonderfull !!
Spring’s scratch menu is our go to pre theatre. We love the surprise and it’s always delicious. At only £20 for 3 courses, it’s amazing value and leaves some budget to try one of their amazing cocktails or wine. Highly recommend.
Beautiful room and ambience. Lovely fresh food sufficiently unfussed over to allow the ingredients to shine. Good wait staff, professional and approachable. A lovely day with old friends.
Very very good food, beautifully presented with exceptionally good service in a beautiful room. The only reason I gave 4 stars for food was only two mains on offer the evening I visited were things I'd normally order. I was dining solo and they could not have been more accommodating. I will definitely dine there again.
The 3rd time I've entertained business clients at Spring and once again, it did not disappoint. They found the surroundings light and airy. The food exceptional, the service very attentive and the all around experience somewhat unique. Please keep up the very high standards you've set. It's worth it.
Always lovely food. Service can be a bit over-attentive, I was interrupted twice mid-sentence to ask if everything was OK. Very expensive but you get what you pay for. The best value is actually the wine, which is reasonably priced and the sommelier is fantastic.
Beautifully located, excellent service, good wine selection, only marred by one rather uninspiring main course.
Scratch menu is a fab adventure. I love the element of surprise
Delicious food, quite different from what we’re used to in the US. Enjoyable dining experience and the restaurant decor was great and made for a special meal.
Always special to visit this restaurant, particularly on a summer’s evening as it is a lovely calm and uplifting space. As usual we ordered the Scratch menu which is always imaginative and beautifully presented, as well as being excellent value for money. Wines too varied and reasonable.
Room has real presence. We went for a pre theatre dinner and timing was therefore critical. Reception noted the required finish time in order to ensure practicalities. Great food perfectly presented and just the job to set the scene for a night at the theatre.
Superb food and service in the most beautiful of settings. I would happily eat there every single day!
Quick visit to London
This was probably the best meal we have had during our year in London. Highly recommend!
Location great, staff truly amazing, decor fantastic and food really, really spectacular!!! We were a group of 9 including some kids....thank you for taking such great care of us!
Absolutely beautiful! Our meal was from the ‘Scratch Menu’ and the main was the best I’ve ever had! Gorgeous and highly recommended.
We went for pre theatre dinner before strolling across waterloo bridge to the national theatre. We loved the scratch menu - perfect for early pre theatre dinner. Beautiful restaurant, relaxed but elegant vibe.
The room is beautiful and elegant, the food superb and the people working at Spring are welcoming, accommodating and lovely. A wonderful evening!
Phenomenal food, service and ambiance. Highly recommend.
Spring is one of the finest meals you’ll ever have in London.
Lovely lunch on a very hot day, in cool surroundings and the high ceiling helps keep the temperature and the noise levels down. Service and food both excellent (European sized portions)
Excellent food, great sommelier and a beautiful room. Great value with the set menu for lunch. Highly recommended
In UK for business and pleasure. Found Spring in a travel book (Fodors?) and made reservations. One of our top three meals in all our travels-and we’ve traveled a lot.
Loved it. Food was outstanding and so was service. Not the cheapest but worth every penny.
Another excellent meal. Lovely tuna and then trout to follow. Sommeliers choice of wine excellent.
The scratch menu was a good idea. A bit bland on the starter. The main repeated on us all evening.
The tiny glass of wine was more expensive than the meal. Should be able to have reasonable priced glasses of wine to pair with the cheap dinner.
Too expensive and not amazing.
We went here before a theatre trip so took the scratch menu option. It was excellent. The starter was a simple salad with peas and mint. The main was a cut of lamb, beautifully cooked with potatoes and herbs. The pudding was ginger ice cream. All simple dishes, all cleverly conceived and skillfully presented. The restaurant is great when you go a la carte, too, but this seemed to me to be exceptionally good value and was delivered in a timely way to enable us to get to the theatre in plenty of time.
Beautiful restaurant with fantastic interesting yet familiar food. Perfect for a special occasion.
