ST. JOHN Bread & Wine reflects the rhythms of its locale whilst observing the same respect for seasonal, indigenous ingredients and "the whole beast" as the bigger sister restaurant. Opening for breakfast, lunch and supper seven days a week, this branch very much beats its own drum with a menu structured towards a slightly less formal manner of dining, with guests actively encouraged to share dishes as they're ready from the kitchen.

As well as selling goods to take home from our bakery, wines by the bottle or the case can be bought from our lists to take home with some delivery available.

Bread & Wine has been voted Best British Restaurant by the Evening Standard and named as best value restaurant by The Observer Food Monthly.

Don’t know what’s going on with bread & wine, it’s always been so good when we’ve dined there before. Maybe we hit an off day? Had some real service clangers including
-No sparkling water (at the beginning of the shift and two doors down from a supermarket where supplies could be bought)
- No listing anywhere on menu of soft drink choices
- Luke warm side orders
- no soap in the bathrooms - again at the start of a shift
- Very disinterested and disengaged table service
- Lack of knowledge of food portion sizes and ingredients
-10 minutes trying to get someone’s - anyone’s - attention to get the bill
Will definitely not be returning

j'adore! just no one gave us knives for our meat and we were not given extra sharing plates or the tea we asked for ! but otherwise, nice and accommodating!

Wonderful food, even for non-meat eater; the smoked sprats and the green sauce accompanying the roasted squash were heavenly. The unpretentious, frugal decor makes it perfect for understated business lunches and relaxed day-out with friends.

While visiting London we had to eat at St.John. My chance to get into Bread and Wine was set. My expectations high, while this location is a little more down to earth the food quality and experience was spot on EXCELLENT!
Everything was great, from the steak tartare and bone marrow to the OX heart was everything you’d expect. Treat yourself, please.

Great 'earthy' meal with outstanding flavours. Its triumph is the simplicity and earnest flavours.....all of which are complimented by knowledgeable staff. Not sure why we were tucked up out of the way behind the bar as we booked 2 months in advance and the restaurant was not busy....we felt we were atbthe naughty table!!!

A fun place to go, with a neighborhood feel, packed on a Sunday evening. The servers were extremely nice, but over-extended, so there were gaps when waiting to order. The menu has a good mix of challenging foods (eel, tripes, offal) and more mainstream thins. Even a few vegetarian items. Desserts were delicious, including the madeleines which arrive hot (order 10 mins ahead).

Always lovely - the relaxed atmosphere, no nonsense set up and general ease of St John’s always hit the mark. If you’re afraid of the unknown or a vegetarian then it’s not going to be your cup of tea, but if you’re up for seeing what you’re missing in the supermarket meat aisle you’ll have a fab time.

The food on offer is quite different from the general breakfast menu. I had the Kidneys and they were very tasty. My friend had the Bloodcake, which also went down very well. We are ardent nose to tail fans and people who try out the special items on the menu will, no doubt, enjoy them.

After waiting for 35 mins for our drinks and our order to be taken we left the building, they didn't seem to care, as the staff watched us pick up our coats and leave. The food, well we only had tap water which was like the shoulder they gave us ... cold

Fantastic informal restaurant with outstanding food, lovey waiting staff and a great range of options from the daily changing menu and the specials board.
The crumbed kid with mint sauce was absolutely divine - as was the venison!
Will definitely be returning...

I have been to St John Bread and Wine in the past but brought my wife there for the first time for our first wedding anniversary. I was not disappointed and she had a most enjoyable experience - the menu was fantastic (especially the kid croquettes and the crispy pig cheek salad!) and we were served by enthusiastic, helpful staff. Big shout out to the waiter who was working his first shift - knowledgeable, attentive and professional throughout the evening. We left having bought the St John's cook book, but we know we'll be back for the atmosphere and treat of having such wonderful food cooked for us.

Had been looking forward to visiting for ages, but unfortunately was really disappointed.

I ordered a doughnut, which looked lovely but the rest of it wasn’t great. The custard on top had gone hard like it had been sat out for a day. There was only about a teaspoon of custard filling.

The toilets were not at all clean and the staircase downstairs to them was run down.

However, the service was ok, if a little quick at the end. Bill brought straight to us before we had asked and then within 1 minute they had brought the card machine assuming we were paying straight away.

The food quality is excellent (especially the Dexter on dripping toast, the madeleines and the treacle tart), the menu is varied and the service attentive but imo the larger sized portions are still rather small and don't really represent good value.
