What Insiders Are Saying
St John Bread and Wine serves food from the legendary St. John in Farringdon, but in an informal canteen-style dining room near Spitalfields Market.
Service unbelievably great very knowledgeable and what I liked gave personal preferences. Food was so delicious and presented well. Came out as it was ready which suited us
seemingly unfussy and stripped back, but you can tell when close attention to detail is being payed both in the kitchen and in the presentation.
Excellent choice of food and wine. We would have preferred a greater choice of fish courses.
Don’t believe the hype. Truly, amateur service, the kitchen ran out of 5 plus items, wine list is basic. This is what happens when food writers get special treatment and free meals, over exposure and under deliver.
This is on the level of my foodie friends dinner party at home, but I got a £120 bill at the end.
I've never not enjoyed a St John lunch or dinner. It's always a great place to catch up with someone over good food and drinks. I always feel welcomed and there really isn't any other place like it in London...other than their other places Smithfield and Neal's Yard. :-) Service is always top notch - kind and genuine.
Good food. Good service. Very relaxing environment.
Pretty close to their usual high standards
Really lovely birthday meal at St John’s. It was nice to share everything. Some of the big plates could have been slightly bigger but overall really well cooked food.
The madeleines were delicious - they were fresh and warm out of the oven! :)
incredible food and an amazing wine selection. 12/10
Usually this restaurant is great but for the first time ever it’s ticked the average/disappointing box. Went here on Good Friday for breakfast and the food just wasn’t as good as it normally is.
St John Bread and Wine is consistently superb - delicious understated food cooked with with simplicity and and care.
It’s so easy to get food like this wrong - no sauces or multiple ingredients to hide behind.
Service is faultless.
A really lovely restaurant on a lazy Sunday morning when we had escaped from our children and it was the morning after a wedding ceremony !
Just what we needed and we were so pleased we had booked and got a chance to experience St John Bread and Wine
The food was fantastic - great quality and flavours. And the staff were lovely. We had a really pleasant evening.
I went to St John 3 times while traveling in London and each time it was a great experience and very great British food. My English friends agreed that they did the classics very well.
Something like a perfect friend- so much itself and generous in all it has to offer. Not fussy, but so well rehearsed. Hard to imagine a better execution.
Great food and location. Slightly weak service this time 😬
Fantastic food, great atmosphere. All round wonderful dining!
If you love offal or have are curious about various meats and pieces than this is the place for you. The menu changes daily so I would suggest maybe trying to sneak a peek at the menu before making reservations as not everything may be suitable to your taste. We were hoping to have some bone marrow but wasn't served today. Very much nose to tail restaurant. Great wine list!
Very nice that there is no music.
Good food and service.
Not our first time to this British institution but a little disappointed. Small portions, we ordered Beef with kidney and mash and there were about 4 pieces of beef with huge chunks of kidney that overpowered the dish. At £22 a pop for that dish I would also expect some veggies to be offered and not have to pay £5-6 extra. Paid £9 for a slither of celeriac and cheese layered pie, which was very tasty but more of it please!
A marvelous English lunch!
Bit too expensive
Excellent as always though I think the servers were a bit puzzled by my friends Northern sense of humor!
Ventured here while visiting from New York on a recommendation from a good friend in Chicago. Stellar food. Fresh and clean flavors. It is amazing how such simply prepared food can taste so stunningly fantastic!
St. John Bread and Wine offers a wonderful dining experience: exquisitely prepared and adventurous food served in unfussy surrounds by immensely helpful and personable staff. A terrific meal.
As usual a wonderful atmosphere, relaxed yet still feels like a treat - good food, interesting variety, well informed staff who know their wine. And if you’re lucky you’ll see Neil Tennant!
I have been eating at St Johns restaurants since the late 90s ( and drinking ) . I have alway loved everything about St Johns and the food is always great .
My recent visit was no exception although i didnt recognise any of the staff ...which is a first for me.
The only criticismt i have is the closing Rope Walk ...which was so so special ..why did you do that ?
Anyway dont ever change what you do and as a Spanish friend of mine said recently " St Johns is a very necessary restaurant " ...and i agree !
Love john ebden
Great modern vibe. Excellent food using essential ingredients to bring out maximum flavor, on par with St John Restaurant. Lunch time, pleasantly quiet and a good value. Service and staff disengaged and couldn't care less.
Level dishes unequal to the price. Medium Wines. Very expensive.
Generally really impressive. Everything tasted great.
Great food. Excellent service. A place to visit for a special occasion.
Great wine and good food as usual, but the menu was unusually bland this weekend. No game!
We really enjoyed our experience at St. John Bread and Wine. Some exceptional dishes include the sourdough that came in the beginning, the smoked mackerel, and the ox tail. Other dishes were delicious but a tad too salty, but overall we really enjoyed our meal. The service was also excellent.
Waitress was rude. Food was okay but the main dish was cold.
Great food if you like nose to tail eating. Expensive but worth it for the quality. Lamb tongue FTW
Always really good food and service , in a relaxed but vibrant atmosphere. The changing menu means there is always something new, but the favorites remain.
Amazing food. Conservative seating plan
I would recommend for the food as it is so unlike any other London restaurant the plates were very well executed but the service was below average and very disappointing for the price you pay and the reputation- although staff were polite and friendly, we were waiting a long time for the main and completely forgotten about afterwards. We ended up waiting more than 40 minutes or so to pay before anyone had come over. Not really service I would expect when you’re paying £100 or so for 2 people.
