Bread & Wine has been voted Best British Restaurant by the Evening Standard and named as best value restaurant by The Observer Food Monthly.
Wonderful food, even for non-meat eater; the smoked sprats and the green sauce accompanying the roasted squash were heavenly. The unpretentious, frugal decor makes it perfect for understated business lunches and relaxed day-out with friends.
Great 'earthy' meal with outstanding flavours. Its triumph is the simplicity and earnest flavours.....all of which are complimented by knowledgeable staff. Not sure why we were tucked up out of the way behind the bar as we booked 2 months in advance and the restaurant was not busy....we felt we were atbthe naughty table!!!
delicious food; brilliantly creative menu; fun staff; good value for money and interesting wines; dangerous vieille prune; overall - excellent!
First time to Bread we had a terrific meal and look forward to our next visit.
Lovely food and very nice atmosphere
All staff are very helpful and friendly
A fun place to go, with a neighborhood feel, packed on a Sunday evening. The servers were extremely nice, but over-extended, so there were gaps when waiting to order. The menu has a good mix of challenging foods (eel, tripes, offal) and more mainstream thins. Even a few vegetarian items. Desserts were delicious, including the madeleines which arrive hot (order 10 mins ahead).
Fantastic madeleines and friendly service in a relaxed setting
simple but of great quality. nice place serving traditional dishes with a twist.
A delight as always. A most satisfying sharing experience, food delicious and well prepared and presented. Most friendly members of staff.
Always lovely - the relaxed atmosphere, no nonsense set up and general ease of St John’s always hit the mark. If you’re afraid of the unknown or a vegetarian then it’s not going to be your cup of tea, but if you’re up for seeing what you’re missing in the supermarket meat aisle you’ll have a fab time.
Lovely setting great food as always and really enjoyed the sharing ethos
My personal happy place! Amazing food, great concept and very warm service. Every single time! Highly recommended.
Great food! we especially liked the blood cake and mussels. The fruit dessert is good and refreshing!
Food was so delicious and we will definitely come back again. The service was excellent and we really enjoyed the lunch.
Very nice relaxed meal with interesting and tasty food
Fantastic tastes and flavors as usual
Great fun sharing dishes with friends - washed down with a couple of bottles of house Claret.
Superb quality produce and meets prepared to perfection. Always changing menu makes this a place you want to keep returning to as you’ll find something new and wonderful each visit.
The food on offer is quite different from the general breakfast menu. I had the Kidneys and they were very tasty. My friend had the Bloodcake, which also went down very well. We are ardent nose to tail fans and people who try out the special items on the menu will, no doubt, enjoy them.
After waiting for 35 mins for our drinks and our order to be taken we left the building, they didn't seem to care, as the staff watched us pick up our coats and leave. The food, well we only had tap water which was like the shoulder they gave us ... cold
Excellent food, impeccable service. A touch noisy but who cares - the meat was outstanding.
Very good food and service :)
Fantastic informal restaurant with outstanding food, lovey waiting staff and a great range of options from the daily changing menu and the specials board.
The crumbed kid with mint sauce was absolutely divine - as was the venison!
Will definitely be returning...
I have been to St John Bread and Wine in the past but brought my wife there for the first time for our first wedding anniversary. I was not disappointed and she had a most enjoyable experience - the menu was fantastic (especially the kid croquettes and the crispy pig cheek salad!) and we were served by enthusiastic, helpful staff. Big shout out to the waiter who was working his first shift - knowledgeable, attentive and professional throughout the evening. We left having bought the St John's cook book, but we know we'll be back for the atmosphere and treat of having such wonderful food cooked for us.
Had been looking forward to visiting for ages, but unfortunately was really disappointed.
I ordered a doughnut, which looked lovely but the rest of it wasn’t great. The custard on top had gone hard like it had been sat out for a day. There was only about a teaspoon of custard filling.
The toilets were not at all clean and the staircase downstairs to them was run down.
However, the service was ok, if a little quick at the end. Bill brought straight to us before we had asked and then within 1 minute they had brought the card machine assuming we were paying straight away.
Really lovely food, great staff, great place to enjoy real English fare!
Perhaps we made a bad choice, but it is impossible to eat the crab in the way they serve it. Wc and wc satira not clean
Great service and stunning food! The wine selection is also fantastic.
Always love this place. Staff are super helpful and the right level of chatty. The ethos behind the food and the quality if fantastic. The wine choices are great. It's all a bit pricey but it's worth it. Hence me coming back multiple times.
Never disappointed by the food and service.
One of my favorite in london great food and service
Had my birthday dinner there with my girlfriend and it was fantastic! The food was amazing! Staff was great! And the place was very chill and fun!
The food is very tasty and reasonably priced. The decoration reminds of Scandinavian restaurants. The service is good and often comes with a kind smile.
Grear dishes with unusual but interesting meat cuts.
The food quality is excellent (especially the Dexter on dripping toast, the madeleines and the treacle tart), the menu is varied and the service attentive but imo the larger sized portions are still rather small and don't really represent good value.
Excellent food and service. Great selection of wine. The bread is divine.
God, I love this place.
First time trying a la carte after previously attending two hog roasts. Food was tasty albeit a bit salty. Portions were average without being generous. Ambience was good and service was excellent.
St. John Bread and Wine never fails to impress! We make it a point to visit (at least once( every time we return to London. We had a lovey, leisurely lunch highlighted by the friendly staff and excellent food and wine. Thank you!
My umpteenth visit and remains and as enjoyable as my first.
