Fergus Henderson’s original home of “Nose to Tail Eating” opened in a former smokehouse around the corner from Smithfield Market in 1994.

Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.

Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.

    Lucky enough to get a table with the 1994 prices, but would jump at the chance to return and pay full price for some delectable feasting. The devilled kidneys were a stand out for me and I could have eaten another 2 hearty portions right off the bat they were so good. Additional comment that the hearty mince pies they make for collection on order around Christmas are also exquisite and will now be a regular tradition before heading to family at Christmas each year.

    I just left last night and I can’t wait to go back. The food was superb, the wine was lovely, and the service was phenomenal. I highly recommend a meal here for anyone visiting London.

    The service is spectacular, food was excellent too but I have to mention the service in particular All the waiters (I’m sure the waitresses were too but I wasn’t served by any) were very attentive, kind and knowledgeable Big shout out to them and would go again

    A fun experience all round. Interesting food, excellently prepared. Some items on the menu may be a little challenging for the less-adventurous, but if you come with an open mind you will have a blast. Great winelist, and the St JOHN selections should by no means be ignored. Servers were helpful in explaining what the dishes were and how they should be enjoyed. Nice casual ambience. There is no stuffiness at all in this establishment.

    Classic cooking, unpretentious and yet really special. Relaxed, friendly staff with a great bar and independent beer on cask and keg. Puddings were epic too! I've been trying for years to eat here, hopefully I'll be back sooner!

    Absolutely stunning meal here yesterday: everything from the bread to the espresso was outstanding. Standout dish was plaice and broad beans,served up in a heavenly puddle of buttery goodness. Hay on wye cheese starter also a complete joy. I saw a review that criticised their allergen care and I have to say I couldn’t disagree more. We come every three months or so, and my coeliac partner is always treated with the utmost care and respect. Many if not most dishes are naturally gluten free and all staff are well trained and eager to help. My favourite restaurant ever, anywhere.
